“What on earth is happening!”
Desmond brought Adriana some cotton slippers, helped her put them on, and coaxed her to sit on the sofa.
“What’s wrong, Adriana?”
Adriana pointed at Audrey and said, “She won’t give me anything to eat. I’m hungry. She wants to starve me to death! She even hit me! Look, she hit me here!”
As she spoke, Adriana rolled up her sleeves.
Fortunately, there were no wounds on her thin arm; otherwise, Audrey would never have been able to clear her name.
“When did I ever hit you! Look at what time it is! Where am I supposed to get you tomato beef stew now!”
Audrey, who was never very patient to begin with, couldn’t help but lose her temper after being wrongly accused.
Desmond gently soothed Adriana and coaxed her into eating some snacks. Only then did Adriana gradually calm down.
Not long after, Adriana said she was sleepy and went back to the bedroom to sleep.
Desmond followed her, tucked her in, and only then came out of the bedroom.
Audrey stood at the door. “Prof. Palmer, I’m really sorry to trouble you!”
Desmond gently closed the bedroom door, raised his hand, and motioned for Audrey to go to the living room so as not to wake Adriana.
Audrey sat down on the sofa.
“Prof. Palmer, what’s wrong with Prof. Nixon? She was perfectly fine during the day!”
Desmond glanced toward the bedroom, a hint of worry in his eyes.
“Maybe she’s just too tired.
Adriana’s health hasn’t been good these past few years. The preparations for this exhibition were rushed, and she has- n’t really rested at all this month.”
At this point, Desmond looked at Audrey.
“Audrey, Adriana really values you! She didn’t originally plan to hold this exhibition. I think she organized it espe- cially so you could make a name for yourself in the circle.
You mustn’t let Adriana down!”

Audrey had been planning to leave, but after hearing this, she could only smile and say, “Don’t worry, Prof. Palmer. I will do my best.”
“Good.”
Desmond still couldn’t quite understand why Adriana liked Audrey so much.
“Audrey, where are you from? Every time I look at you, you seem a bit familiar.”
Audrey replied, “I’m from Greshamton.”
“Greshamton, huh…”
Desmond thought for a moment and said, “Adriana is also from Greshamton! No wonder she takes such good care of you!”
Audrey was a bit surprised. “Isn’t Prof. Nixon from Bronzevale?”
Desmond said, “Her hometown is indeed Bronzevale, and her family was quite prominent. But due to policy reasons, she went to Greshamton to teach.
Her health is so poor now because she suffered so much in the countryside back then.
Fortunately, when the SAT was reinstated, Adriana finally had the chance to come back.”
This was the first time Audrey had heard about these things.
“So Prof. Nixon has such a past. It really wasn’t easy for her!”
“That’s right! Back then, Adriana was the only girl in our year to get into Camberwell University.”
Talking about the old days, Desmond became animated.
He said, “You girls nowadays dress up so beautifully, but when Adriana was young, as people say now, she was the campus belle.”
Audrey responded with a smile, and Desmond thought she didn’t believe him.
“Wait here, I’ll go get a photo. You’ll see for yourself.”
With that, he got up and went back to his own place across the hall to look for a photo.
Audrey couldn’t help but yawn, thinking to herself: Old people really do sleep less!
Before long, Desmond returned, really holding a yellowed photograph in his hand.
“Take a look!”
Audrey took the photo.
She glanced at it and immediately spotted the girl standing in the middle of the crowd.

Although everyone was wearing the same Camberwell University uniform, Raymon was right–Adriana had an extra- ordinary presence that made her stand out at a glance.
But…
Audrey studied that face carefully, feeling as if she had seen it somewhere before.
The photo was taken so long ago that the features of the people in it had become somewhat blurred and indistinct.
Audrey wanted to get a clearer look, but at that moment Desmond took the photo back, carefully wiping it as if it were a treasure before putting it away.
Audrey said, “Prof. Palmer, does Prof. Nixon have any other family?”
Desmond shook his head.
“Back when Adriana was volunteering as a teacher, her family members passed away one after another.
After she was admitted to Camberwell University, quite a few classmates wanted to pursue her, but at that time, she spent all her days in the lab and library, studying those antiques.
And so, time slipped by, and now she’s at this age!”
As he spoke, Desmond glanced at Audrey again.
