Rachelle went upstairs within a few minutes.
Having secured a big order, she was in a great mood.
She smiled and said, before even approaching Claudine, “I sold that painting for a thirty percent markup! I’m so gonna take you to the fanciest restaurant in town!
“Some women are just so lucky.
“Did you see that guy coming up? That’s Mr. Barrette, the Barrette Group’s CEO. He bought the painting for the woman next to him.
“I heard he got married five years ago. Perhaps that’s his wife.”
Claudine closed her eyes and said flatly, “That’s his blind date.”
Rachelle seemed a bit surprised. “How did you know?”
Tears glistened as Claudine slowly opened her eyes, which was a sight enough to melt the hardest heart.
She smiled bitterly, rubbing the ring mark on her bare ring finger.
“Because … I haven’t divorced him yet.”
Rachelle said something, but she could no longer hear them clearly.
Her ears were ringing, and in the next second, she passed out.
When she opened her eyes again, she was in a hospital bed with an IV drip in her hand.
As she glanced out the window, the sky had completely darkened.
Soon, someone pushed open the door.
Rachelle stepped inside with a thermal lunchbox in her hand.
“You’re awake. I got you some soup. Sit up and have some.”
“Thank you, Rach.”
Rachelle set up the bedside tray, poured some soup onto a plate, and placed it in front of Claudine.
“Don’t mention it,” she said.

Looking at the pale–faced Claudine, she thought of what the doctor had told her, and her heart ached.
Claudine had been a rising star when they first met. Given her extraordinary talent, Rachelle had expected her to achieve something unprecedented in the auction world. But then came the news of Claudine’s marriage.
Claudine must have loved her husband so much. What else could possibly justify her throwing away such a promising career?
Now look at Claudine–she had an abortion and suffered illness alone. On top of that, her husband paraded his blind date around, even spending a fortune on her, before they even got a divorce.
It pained Rachelle to think how heartbroken Claudine must be.
Noticing Rachelle’s pitiful gaze, Claudine looked up and smiled, “I’m fine, Rach. The hardest part is over.”
Rachelle nodded.
She knew Claudine didn’t need anyone’s pity. The fact that Claudine had chosen to resume her career was enough to prove she knew what she needed to do.
She said with a smile, “Everyone makes mistakes. The important thing is to cut losses in time. For now, just focus on getting better. No need to sweat about work–I’ve got your back.”
“Thank you, Rach,” Claudine said sincerely with a smile.
Tears streamed down her cheeks into the plate, and she swallowed them together with the soup…
Claudine went back to her home that very night.
Her recovery took time, and staying at the hospital wouldn’t help.
Besides, she had a lot of materials to review and couldn’t afford to waste time.
Rachelle drove her back.
“Are you sure you don’t want me to stay?” she asked worriedly, looking at Claudine’s pale face.
Claudine grabbed her bag and stepped out, waving at Rachelle through the window.
“Yes. I’ll be fine after some sleep. Thanks again for today, Rach. Drive safe.”
“Alright then. Get some proper rest. Call me if anything.”
After Rachelle’s car vanished, Claudine walked around the complex, not wanting to go upstairs yet.
Since Damian was getting along pretty well with his blind date, she assumed he’d reach out to her to finalize the di-
vorce soon.
She felt nothing. After all, it was what she wanted.
But she hadn’t figured out how to tell her mother about this.

Chances were, her mother would be pretty furious.
As she was wondering, a sudden bark from a dog startled her.
