chapter114
She didn’t know what was said on the other end, but Claudine simply replied with two words.
“Deal!”
After hanging up, Claudine got out of the car.
Wearing high heels, she walked step by step toward the elevator.
She was utterly exhausted, leaning against the elevator and closing her eyes.
With a “ding,” the elevator doors opened.
Claudine walked out of the elevator, opened the door, and entered her apartment.
She didn’t turn on the lights.
The room was pitch dark.
Claudine groped her way to the sofa and threw herself onto its soft cushions.
She raised her arm and draped it over her eyes.
Her slender figure looked so fragile on that soft sofa, evoking a pang of sympathy in anyone who saw her.
The neon lights outside cast a faint glow into the room.
In the dimness, her silhouette seemed even more broken.
Damian was right across from her; he had seen her from the moment she entered the apartment.
Originally, he had wanted to tell her that the matter with Benjamin was not his doing.
He also wanted to warn her to stay away from Roberto!
That’s right, he even knew that Claudine had met with Roberto tonight!
Just half an hour ago, Damian had arrived at Claudine’s place ahead of her.
With their marriage certificate, he had obtained a key from the property management and entered Claudine’s apart-
ment.
When he came yesterday, he had been too busy arguing with Claudine to really look at the place.
As soon as Damian entered, he saw rows of trophies displayed in the living room.
Those trophies were placed in the most prominent spot, each one polished to a shine.

Even the collectibles Claudine had snatched back yesterday were only placed behind those trophies.
Damian walked closer to take a look.
There were both domestic and international trophies.
“Auctioneer of the Year”
“Jewelry Auction Championship”
Even though Damian wasn’t in the industry, he had heard of these awards.
Looking further, there were all kinds of certificates.
Damian glanced at the dates on those certificates-they were all from before their marriage.
He had heard Lindsay mention before that Claudine was outstanding in the auction world.
But he had never taken it to heart, nor had he tried to find out just how remarkable she was.
Even after learning that Adriana considered Claudine her prized student, and that Mitchell had broken his own rules to accept Claudine as his doctoral student.
Damian still couldn’t associate his wife with the accomplished conservator-restorer and auctioneer.
Now, looking at these trophies and certificates, he finally realized that his wife was not just someone who kept the house in perfect order.
It turned out that before she married him, she was this exceptional.
Damian looked through the certificates and photos one by one.
Claudine on the auction stage was elegant and intellectual.
That was a side of Claudine he had never seen before.

Damian looked at the woman lying on the sofa; in the dim light, he heard her quiet sobs.
Claudine’s body trembled slightly, then she covered her face with both hands and curled up into a ball.
Damian saw all of this.
Before coming here, he had a hundred ways in mind to make Claudine accept his terms.
But now, looking at this woman in the dark, crying out in pain, Damian actually felt a trace of pity.
He stood up and slowly walked to the front of the sofa.
He bent down, reached out, and gently stroked the woman’s hair.
Claudine forced her eyes open, trying to see the man in front of her clearly.

“Damian?”
Damian responded with a gentle “Mm.”
Perhaps it was because Claudine was so fragile at this moment, so heartbreakingly vulnerable.
Damian’s voice unconsciously became much softer.
“Why did you drink so much?”
As soon as he finished speaking, a slap landed on Damian’s face without warning.
“You bastard!”
Claudine cursed as she raised her hand, still trying to hit him.
Damian was stunned by the sudden slap.
Fortunately, he reacted quickly enough to dodge the next slap.
“Claudine!”
He barked coldly.
Damian switched on the lamp beside the sofa and looked at Claudine again; she was completely drunk.
She squinted her eyes, cursing at a trendy figurine in front of her.
“Damian, you son of a bitch!”
At this moment, Damian’s face was darker than a thundercloud.
Claudine had mistaken the figurine for him.
Only now did he realize just how foul-mouthed his wife could be!

Damian furrowed his brow and, without hesitation, hoisted the woman who was making a scene on the sofa onto his
shoulder.
Suddenly lifted off the ground, Claudine was terrified, flailing her arms wildly.
“Ah! Who, who is it! Ah, help, I don’t want to ride a roller coaster!
“I’m scared, ah!”
