Chapter 29
The moment Anya pressed the button, Henry lunged forward and snatched it from her hand. He shouted at me, “Kate, get out of here!”
I reacted instantly and ran without looking back.
Held down by Henry, Anya glared at him with hatred. “Is she worth it? Why can’t you just look at
me?”
“Anya, I was blind to choose you just to spite Kate.”
Henry’s words silenced her completely.
“Hahaha, if that’s the case, then I’ll send you to hell!”
Anya’s eyes turned vicious. She grabbed the dagger in Henry’s chest and twisted hard. Blood
poured out, soaking his shirt and staining her right hand.
Taking advantage of his pain, Anya pressed the button without hesitation.
Explosions erupted around us, flames shooting into the sky.
ran out of the factory without stopping, but when I heard the blast, my steps faltered.
turned and kept walking.
Behind me, Henry slowly looked toward the gate, his lips forming the words, “Kate, I love you…”
ran down the mountain and met Zion at the foot.
When Erwan saw me, he rushed over and grabbed my hand. “Sister, are you okay? I heard the explosion and I….”
pulled my hand away, walked to Zion and told him everything. He patted my shoulder and ooked at me with sympathy. “You’ve been through a lot. Kate, go back with them and rest. I’ll handle the rest.”
nodded, turned and left with Zion’s bodyguards.
Erwan also got in the car.
On the way, he tried to speak to me, but I had already closed my eyes to rest.
didn’t open them until we arrived. Then I got out without even looking at him.
That evening, Zion returned with the results: two bodies had been found in the factory. The examination showed one man and one woman. The man’s wounds matched Henry’s and the woman was, of course, Anya.
had already guessed they both died in the explosion, but hearing it confirmed left me with a heavy sense of despair.
‘Kate, I’ve resubmitted my application abroad. You can go alone this time. If you’re worried, I can have Erwan go with you.”
I shook my head at his offer. “Erwan deserves his own space and so do I.”
Zion understood and didn’t press further. He didn’t even tell her I was leaving.
It wasn’t until I was boarding my flight the next day that I received a call from Erwan.
There was a pause after the line connected.
checked the time on the plane and said, “If there’s nothing else, I’ll hang up.”
“Don’t! Don’t hang up!”
Erwan spoke quickly. “I’m just… a little surprised you answered my call.”
“Go ahead.”
“Sister, I’m sorry. I hurt you so much. I shouldn’t blame anyone. It was my fault for not seeing clearly, for not checking things first…”
glanced at the departure time again and cut him off. “If you’re going to say that, then stop. “There’s nothing left to say between us. Just don’t bother me anymore. That’s for the best.” There was a long silence before Erwan’s soft sigh came through. “Yes… Take care, sister.”
Yeah.”
hung up and a few minutes later, the plane took off.
Looking out at the white clouds, I let out a breath of relief.
No matter what lay ahead, this time I would live for myself.
