Chapter 22

After I got home, I took a shower. As I was drying my hair and stepping out of the bathroom, I suddenly heard the sound of a fight outside.

My alertness rose instantly and I spotted a broom nearby.

I grabbed it and went to the door. Peeking through the peephole, I saw Henry and Erwan fighting. Without thinking, I opened the door and shouted at them.

When I reached Erwan, Henry started complaining. “Kate, that pretty boy dared to hit me! Look how badly he hurt me…”

He pointed to the corner of his mouth where he was injured.

I looked at Erwan. His handsome face was filled with grievance, covered in bruises and purple

marks.

It was clear who was right and who was wrong. I stood in front of Erwan protectively. “Henry, are you sick? We’re done. If you don’t leave, I’ll call the police and sue you for trespassing.”

After years in the lab, I rented this small house after leaving.

Henry looked at me with hurt eyes. “Are you going to deny everything we had for this pretty boy?’ ‘If you can’t talk properly, then shut up. Please get as far away as you can,” I replied bluntly.

When Henry still refused to leave, I took out my phone and called the police.

The system here worked well. Within five minutes, the police arrived and drove Henry away. After everyone left, I turned to Erwan. “Your injuries… never mind. If you don’t mind, come inside. I’ll put some medicine on them.”

‘Of course I don’t mind,” Erwan said, eyes flashing with joy before lowering his head shyly. “As ong as it’s not a bother.”

said nothing more and took him inside.

The next morning, the doorbell rang.

thought it was Zion coming to discuss today’s academic conference. But when I opened the door, I saw Henry looking at me with joy.

‘I knew you still cared about me; otherwise, you wouldn’t have refused to open the door.”

As he spoke, Henry squeezed through the crack in the door, trying to get inside. “Kate, I know I was wrong. I know I was a jerk before and didn’t consider your feelings, but I truly repent.”

‘Tomorrow is your birthday. I’ve prepared a cake for you. Let’s wait until midnight together, okay?”

He pushed the cake toward me like it was a treasure.

I looked at him coldly and under his expectant gaze, I said firmly, “Henry, you disgust me.”

My repeated refusals pushed him to the edge.

He held the cake in one hand, gripped my arm tightly with the other and demanded sharply, “Why did you leave without saying goodbye? It’s just a child you lost. I can work on my health and we can still have children.”

“Didn’t you help me recover before? You can do the same now. Come back with me, okay? I’ll support you and never look for another woman.”

By the end, Henry’s voice was almost pleading.

My expression stayed the same. At that moment, the young man’s clear, gentle voice came from behind me. “Sister, why are you still standing at the door?”

“I think it’s going to rain. Be careful not to catch a cold.”

Erwan walked over and stood behind me. His tall figure surrounded me, almost like an embrace.

“Hey, isn’t that your ex-husband?”
