Then I heard heavy footsteps walking away from me. That must be Enzo–he stormed away.

“Ma’am, you have to believe my husband. He did not kill your husband. Yes, it hurt to lose a child, but with me around, he would never come after an innocent person,” Enzo’s mother said.

My mom didn’t say anything; she was only crying. I used to be angry at her and blame her for moving on too quickly by marrying my stepfather, but now I see that she only did that to give me a stable home. She has never truly moved on from my father.

“Excuse me. I’d advise you all to wait outside. It’s too crowded in here, and the patient needs rest,” I heard someone say–he must be the doctor

Then I heard them walking out. The doctor did some tests on me, then he left too.

Now it’s just me and my thoughts. What’s going to happen between Enzo and me now that he’s found out my father is behind his sister’s death? Is this going to end our relationship?

Three Weeks Later<

After Enzo stormed off that day, I thought he wouldn’t come back–but he did.

He’s been spending every single day with me, telling me how his day went and how many challenges he faced.}]

He’d sometimes tell me jokes and laugh by himself. Then he’d talk about the baby and how he’s going to be a good dad to him or her–1 found out about my pregnancy from his daily conversations.

Even Kayla drops by sometimes. She’d beat me for being too stubborn and refusing to wake up already.”

My mom and Enzo’s parents also drop by sometimes, and Enzo’s father never stops apologizing for his hostility towards me before.

But it’s just me and Enzo today. He sat beside me as usual. He’s holding my right hand and caressing it softly. He thinks I’m still in a coma, but I already woke up early this morning.”

“When are you going to wake up, babygirl? I have a huge surprise for you… I’ll just say it, you can’t hear me anyway,” he laughed.

I almost smiled too, but held back because I wanted to hear the surprise he’s got for me. He brought my hand closer to his lips and kissed it.

“I have decided on a room for our baby. I didn’t design it yet, but I bought a variety of things, and you’ll decide on whatever design you want.”

He paused briefly, then sighed.

“Dad… I don’t know if you can, but please, forgive him for his past behavior towards you. He wasn’t being mean intentionally, he was just mad at someone and…” he trailed off.”

I slowly opened my eyes and saw his retreating back. A weak smile plastered my face.M

My eyes landed on the IV drip attached to my left arm. I carefully sat up and slowly detached the drip from my hand.

I tried to get up but fell back on the bed as I felt dizzy.!!

Looking around the room, I saw my phone lying on the table next to my bed. I smiled weakly as I reached for it and quickly dialed Kayla’s number. Thankfully, she picked up on the first ring.

“Am I dreaming? Is this who I think this is?” she asked immediately.

“Yes,” I answered quietly.”

“Genevieve! You’re finally awake!” she screamed.”

I winced and quickly pulled the phone away from my ear a bit.!!

“Oh my God! This is so unreal. Genevieve. I was so scared you wouldn’t wake up anymore. You were just Iving on the bed. vou couldn’t

“You just woke up. Did the doctor say you can be discharged? What about your husband? Why can’t he get you out? Why do you need my help instead of his?” she bombarded me with questions.

I closed my eyes and took a deep breath as I felt a slight pain in the part of my chest where the bullet pierced.

“I can’t explain everything to you on the phone. Just get here in twenty minutes and find a way to get me out. I don’t have much time left,” I said.

“What do you mean you don’t have much time left?” she asked, but I didn’t reply. I hung up and laid back on the bed, pretending to still be in a coma–in case Enzo or his parents come in.
