By the afternoon of the second day, most of the swelling in my throat had subsided.
Sunlight filtered through the blinds, casting dappled shadows on the bedsheets. I cleared my throat and finally managed to speak clearly.
Grandpa’s head shot up, his cloudy eyes instantly brightening as he quickly gestured for Mom and Dad to
come over.
My family gathered around me with concern.
My hands trembled slightly as I gripped the bedsheets.
I told them everything.
Starting with Paisley adding cilantro extract to my food, to Dash switching out my allergy medication and crushing the emergency signal device, then the details of them forcing ice water down my throat and the physical abuse–every word felt like it was bleeding.
Dad’s fist slammed into the bedside table with a loud thud.
Mom was so angry she cursed them as “animals.”
Grandpa’s cane struck the floor repeatedly:
“They dared to harm my Ashford family, even tried to commit murder for money–this is absolutely
outrageous!”
Grandpa immediately called the police.
Shortly after, officers investigated the hotel and came to question me.
Just as they finished taking my statement, commotion erupted in the hallway.
The people Grandpa had “invited” to the Ashford estate were now being “escorted” by bodyguards. The moment they saw the police, they frantically started throwing Paisley and Dash under the bus.
“Officers, it was all Paisley! She’s had it out for Miss Ashford for ages!”
“That’s right! Dash was her accomplice! He’s the one who switched the medication with candy!”
“We were just watching! We never laid a hand on her!”

All their former friends had turned against them, desperate to distance themselves.
The cacophony of accusations rained down like hailstones, turning Paisley and Dash’s faces from white to
green.
Grandpa struck his cane hard against the floor, instantly silencing the room.
“All of you shut up!”
“Save it for the police station! Don’t disturb my granddaughter’s rest!”
Then they were all thrown out.
Just as security was about to escort Dash away, he suddenly broke free.
He stared at me intensely.
“Luna! Is this really necessary? It was just a misunderstanding–did you have to call the police and ruin
us?”
“I was scared to death yesterday! You’re fine now, so can’t you just let this go? Why do you have to be so ruthless? How are we supposed to get along after this?”
“Get along?”
I laughed coldly and sat up in bed.
“Dash Riverstone, you knew my cilantro allergy could be fatal, yet you watched Paisley add cilantro extract to my food and even helped her switch/my medication. Tell me–is that what you call a misunderstanding?”
I stared into his eyes, enunciating each word:
“The way she looked at you, she wanted to devour you whole. Are you telling me you really couldn’t see ir? Or did you enjoy having two women fighting over you, even if it cost me my life?”
Dash’s face instantly turned bright red as he frantically waved his hands:
“No! You’ve got it wrong! I just… I just didn’t think it was that serious…”
Paisley suddenly screamed like a cornered animal, pointing at Dash and shouting to the police:
“Enough!”
“He orchestrated the whole thing! He told me Luna was in the way and that I should teach her a lesson! He personally switched the medication!”

Dash stared at her in disbelief.
When it sank in, he immediately shrieked and lunged at her, trying to beat her:
“You’re the one who went crazy with jealousy! You said you wanted to put Luna in her place!”
“I had no idea about any of this–you’re the psycho who wanted Luna dead!”
Paisley was scratched bloody and slapped Dash across the face, sending him staggering backward:
“Me, jealous? Who was it that clung to me in your bed that night and wouldn’t let me leave?”
Those words exploded like thunder in the hospital room. Dash’s face went deathly pale:
“Paisley, you bitch! How dare you say that?!”
“What wouldn’t I dare say?”
Paisley grabbed his hair and slammed his head against the wall, her eyes filled with reckless madness:
“You think you’re so pure? Last time in the bathroom at the club, who was it that came onto me? That expensive suit you were wearing–Luna bought that for you, didn’t she?”
Disgusting details poured out like dirty water.
Dash’s screams turned to whimpers as he clawed at her:
“I’ll kill you! You psycho!”
The two writhed together in a tangle. Dash tore Paisley’s shirt to shreds while Paisley ripped his sleeves, their curses growing more vicious by the second.
The officers watching frowned deeply before finally stepping in to separate them:
“Enough!” The lead officer shouted sternly. “Save it for the jail cell!”
Both immediately fell silent, glaring daggers at each other.
