Chapter 40 To the Courthouse

Harry frowned. What’s wrong with her?”

The patient became unstable after the shock and lost consciousness. The doctor handed him Catherine’s medical report

Recalling how Catherine had struck him moments ago, she had not looked at all like a woman overcome by distress

Harry gave a cold scoff. She looked perfectly fine to me.”

The doctor’s tone held disapproval. The patient is pregnant. Emotional instability is normal, and since she was kidnapped last night, it’s reasonable for her to act out of character. You’d do best not to provoke her, or she may lash out.”

Harry responded with a hum. When his gaze shifted to Catherine, he saw that she had already regained consciousness

She blinked, and her body was weighed down by an unbearable heaviness. Struggling to sit against the headboard, she uttered in a tired, detached tone, Let’s get a divorce.”

We’ll discuss that later.Harry’s tone deepened

Catherine had regained her composure. She smiled faintly at Harry, and her gaze turned knife- edged. Then, I’ll kill Michelle.”

Harry’s expression darkened as he heard her make the threat in the calmest of tones. What on earth is wrong with you?”

Catherine found it laughable that Harry would ask what had provoked her

She then picked up the knife from the floor and pressed it against her own throat. Harry, will you only be satisfied when I’m dead?”

Her action nearly froze Harry’s blood. He blurted without thinking, I’ll divorce you! Just put the knife down!”

As the tension spiked, the doctor startled and quickly reminded him, The patient is emotionally unstable. Speak gently. No arguing.”

Catherine turned her gaze away, unwilling to even look at Harry. I don’t want to be entangled with you anymore. I only want to be as far from you as possible.”

She looked ready to snap, and Harry no longer dared to push her. He clenched his jaw and gave

  1. in. Fine. We’ll divorce.”

Catherine put down the knife and seized his hand at once, dragging him out of the ward

2/3

We’re going to the courthouse now.She rose from the bed, afraid Harry might change his mind again

Her eagerness only made his frustration grow heavier

Soon, Catherine had changed her clothes. Let’s go,she urged

Neither of them spoke on the way to the courthouse

Harry gripped the steering wheel, unable to fathom how things had come to this. Perhaps he had pressed her too hard the previous night

The procedure was swift. In less than half an hour, Catherine had the divorce papers in hand, and she walked off at once

She could not stand to look at him for another moment

Harry strode after her, catching her hand. Worry flared in him at the thought of her condition. Let me drive you back.”

This time, it was Catherine who shook him off. Her tone was cold. No need. I only hope never to see you again.”

He looked at his empty hand, then at her retreating figure, and tucked his hand away as if nothing had happened

Catherine looked at the divorce certificate in her hand. The weight in her chest was finally lifting

From this day forward, she and Harry would have nothing to do with each other. But she had no intention of letting Michelle off the hook

If she could find the men who had abducted her, they could testify that Michelle had sent them to kill her

Catherine pulled out her phone and called Adam Mayo, a man who had once been her father’s trusted assistant. Hi, Mr. Mayo.”

Adam’s voice trembled with emotion. Ms. Quinn, are you alright? How are you now?”

Mr. Mayo, I need your help. Her voice was faint. After all her thinking, she knew only Adam could help her

If she went to Rachel, she would only be dragged back into Harry’s orbit. She had finally

broken free, and she never wanted to see him again

Adam answered without hesitation, Ms. Quinn, just give the order, and I’ll act.”

Good. I need you to track down these men.Catherine had chosen to transfer money by phone so their information could be traced. Tracking them wouldn’t be difficult. As she leaned against the car window, her eyes were filled with nothing but ice
