Chapter 27 Harry’s Unexpected Arrival
“Attention! A white sedan with license plate Axxxx58 has lost control on North Ring Road. It’s heading toward Blackstone Cliff. All vehicles along the route must pull over and make way immediately! Repeat, please clear the road at once!”
The voice of the traffic control crackled through the radio. Harry’s grip on the steering wheel tightened. The veins bulged on the back of his hands.
He glanced at the moving red dots on the navigation screen. It was Catherine’s car. Her car was racing toward the sharp bend ahead.
Beyond that curve lay nothing but an around 300–foot drop with no guardrail.
“Adrian!” Harry barked into the phone. “Set up sand piles before the cliff to make a buffer zone!”
The only way to stop the car was with impact if the brakes had failed.
He kept dialing Catherine’s number, but only got a busy tone. He cursed under his breath.
He tossed his phone aside and slammed his foot on the accelerator before swerving into the emergency lane.
His car closed the distance with Catherine, but the red dot on the map had already entered the deadly curve.
In the heat of the moment, he caught sight of a narrow path on the navigation map. It was a firebreak used by forest rangers.
Harry wrenched the wheel and shot up the slope without hesitation.
Meanwhile, Catherine’s car careened out of control down the main road.
The cliff edge loomed less than a hundred feet away. Her eyes widened as she stomped the unresponsive brake with all her strength.
A black SUV plunged down the slope like an arrow released from a bow at the critical moment, hurtling straight into her path.
Catherine’s car slammed into the SUV’s side and was forced to an abrupt halt.
The airbags exploded instantly. Her head slammed into it, leaving her dazed in a wash of
dizziness.
Soon, the wail of sirens filled the air.

Catherine unlatched her seatbelt and stumbled out of the car. She instantly recognized the black SUV wedged against the cliff edge.
The license plate looked familiar to her. It was Harry’s car!
Why was he here?
In the next second, Harry pushed open the dented car door. A pair of polished and customized
thin–soled leather shoes touched the ground, followed by his long legs, before his face appeared before her.
He clutched his head as he walked toward her, scanning her up and down. “Are you okay?”
How did he know she was in trouble?
Catherine looked up and saw the blood trailing down his face. Her throat tightened. “You’re bleeding…”
Harry lifted his hand at her words to touch his forehead and saw the blood stain on his fingertips.
Only then did he realize he was bleeding.
It must have been caused by the impact when his head struck the steering wheel earlier.
“I’m fine. It’s just a cut.” His tone was dismissive. He grabbed her shoulder and shoved her into the car when he spotted Jeremy rushing over. His tone was slightly icy. “Get in. We’re going to the hospital.”
Catherine unconsciously clenched her hands into fists. Her voice was tinged with tension, and she couldn’t help but ask, “Harry, why are you here…”
Harry’s phone rang before she could finish. He answered the call.
“Why aren’t you here yet? I’ve been waiting forever.” It was Michelle’s coy voice.
His tone softened as he replied, “I’m already on my way to the hospital. I’ll be there in 20 minutes.”
Catherine listened to their conversation and slowly unclenched the hands on her lap.
It turned out that it wasn’t about her after all.
He hung up the phone and turned to look at Catherine, who remained silent. “What were you saying?”
“It’s nothing.” She glanced out the car window. The flicker of emotion that had stirred within

her faded completely.
She had thought he cared for her, even if it was just a little.
But it was clear now that that had only ever been her illusion.
Neither of them spoke again during the drive. He left as soon as they arrived at the hospital.
Catherine couldn’t help but bite her lower lip as she watched his retreating figure.
