Realizing things weren’t going as he had expected, Oliver grew flustered. 

With a stern expression, he asked, “Sadie, do you think we were too harsh on you back then?” 

Alexander laughed arrogantly. “I thought it was expensive, but it’s just fifty silver coins. Is that really worth making such a fuss over? You even had to announce it at the banquet! So petty! Our family isn’t like yours, Francis. Even if Sadie broke a priceless vase worth live thousand silver coins, we wouldn’t say a word to her!” 

Talulla, by now, had formed a very bad opinion of the Francis brothers.. 

She held Sadie’s tiny hand tightly and turned to Oliver with a sharp look. “If Sadie really did break the vase. my first concern would be whether she hurt her hand! The young lady of our family is meant to be loved and protected, not scolded or hit for breaking things!” 

The elderly woman’s hand was rough yet full of warmth. 

Sadie looked up at her face, and a wave of emotion hit her. “Grandmother…” 

“Good girl!” Talulla pulled her into a hug. “From now on, you are a part of the Gates family. No one will ever punish you again for a simple mistake. I promise!” 

Oliver stood frozen and awkward, still holding out the ferul 

Talulla, clearly irritated, called out, “Zephyr!” 

Understanding the hint, Zephyr rose to his feet, took the ferule, and broke it in half in front of everyone. 

He tossed the ferule onto the ground, then calmly wiped his fingertips with a handkerchief. 

Bathed in spring sunlight, the young heir looked stunning. His crimson outfit accentuated his good looks. His skin was flawless, and his cheeks glowed like blooming flowers. 

His eyes 

were half–lowered, and his voice was gentle yet distant as he said, “Mr. Francis, the young ladies of the Gates family don’t need to reflect on their mistakes, much less be punished for them” 

Suddenly, Oliver lifted his head. 

He’s clearly siding with Sadie! 

But… 

Why on earth would the Gates family side with someone slow and clumsy? She’s not even worth comparing to a single finger of Daisy!

She knew well that Zephyr was like a fire in the open, but a hidden dagger in the shadow. He always seemed kind and humble around elders and strangers, and he cared a lot about the reputation of the Cates family. She didn’t take his words to heart. Believing them would have been her mistake. 

She instead put on the perfect expression, her eyes filled with emotion as she softly said, “Grandmother, Brother… 

“Good girl!” Talulla held her tightly. “From now on, you are my very own granddaughter!” 

After the feast, Talulla wanted to watch a play in the park with the other noble ladies. 

She didn’t keep Sadie close but allowed her to mingle with people her own age. 

Someone had set up what they claimed was an archery competition, with a jade pendant as the prize. 

Hoping to cheer Daisy up. Neville eagerly joined in. 

“Sadie stood among the crowd, observing. 

To her, Neville had never been the most reliable brother, but no one could deny his natural talent for martial arts. Whether it was mounted archery or hand–to–hand combat, he was better than most. As soon as Neville took the field, he hit the bullseye, earning loud praise from everyone watching. 

Daisy looked slightly proud as if sharing in his victory, which helped to ease the shame she felt from what had happened earlier. 

Alexander stood next to Sadie with his arms crossed and muttered, “That’s it?” 

Sadie explained. “He’s not like you. He didn’t have the chance to train in mounted archery and martial arts. under famous masters. For someone who taught himself, he’s actually done pretty well.” 

It was because of Neville’s talent that, in her previous life, Sadie had encouraged him to join the army and learn mounted archery properly. 

He later made a name for himself. After returning to Jamore with their father, he aced the martial examinations and was named deputy commander of the Imperial Guards by the Emperor himself. His future had looked very bright. 

But in the end, Sadie found out he’d spent his whole life resenting her. 

He blamed her for convincing their father to send him to the army, for making his life hard. 

In this life, Sadie had made up her mind to respect the fate of others. 

“You call that ‘pretty well?” Alexander raised an eyebrow in disdain. “I was already better than him before I ever had a master! And don’t even get me started on Zephyr. At his age, he could take down a whole group of bandits by himself! Just wait and see.” 

He wouldn’t allow Sadie to think that Neville was more impressive than him. 

With long strides, he stepped forward confidently and picked up the bow and arrow, “Neville, let me show you how it’s done!”
