Photographers at the scene snapped pictures urgently, while guests chattered excitedly, creating a chaotic atmosphere.
“I’ve got the first exclusive!”
One reporter dashed out of Daglesh’s residence, with others hurriedly following in pairs and small groups.
“Don’t let them leave!”
Eric’s face flushed with anger as he commanded.
Under no circumstances should today’s incident become public, or the Daglesh family’s stock would undoubtedly nosedive.
“Curse that insane woman!”
I muttered quietly.
The gate of the Daglesh’s residence shut behind us, enclosing both Samuel and me.
In the midst of the commotion, Karen fixed her gaze on me.
“Bitch! You will pay for this!”
She grabbed a fruit knife from the dining table and charged at me with it.
I shielded my face and weaved through the area, worried the butler might catch me and pull me back.
It wasn’t until Karen suddenly appeared before me, brandishing a knife, that I snapped back to reality.
The gap between us was too small–there was no chance to dodge!
At the crucial moment, a hand gripped my shoulder. The scene before me became a blur as I was pulled back.
Samuel positioned himself in front of me, using both hands to shield me.
A soft, dull sound echoed as the blade pierced Samuel’s lower abdomen.
“Samuel!”
“If you dare touch my woman, you have a death wish,” Samuel declared, delivering a powerful kick to Karen, sending her flying a good seven or eight meters.
“Samuel, are you alright?”
I asked, pressing both hands against his abdomen in a state of shock.

While others might be oblivious, I know that Samuel carries an old scar on his lower abdomen, a remnant from a past mission that almost claimed his life.
He had fought hard to return from the edge of death, and now, once more, he was hurt because of me.

With one hand, Samuel gripped the handle of the knife and pulled it out with force.

In an instant, Samuel’s face became ghostly white. He lost all his strength and fell into my arms.
“Why are you just standing there? Call an ambulance!”
I shouted to those nearby.
Eric had taken my phone.
I grabbed a bystander’s phone and called the emergency line.
Eric also showed up. He instructed someone to keep a close eye on Karen, worried she might try something drastic again.
“Amanda, you…”
Eric stopped speaking.
I cradled Samuel in my arms, my eyes welling up with tears.
“Samuel, don’t sleep!”
I gently tapped his face, attempting to rouse him.
His warmth was slipping away, so I embraced him closely, desperate to preserve his heat.
His lips parted faintly.
“What is it you want to tell me?”
“Amanda, in that letter… I told you my feelings… The person I’ve always had feelings for is…”
His final word was too faint for me to catch.
Samuel’s hand fell limply.
I was shaking all over. “Samuel, repeat it! I couldn’t hear you!
“Get up and say it again!”
But Samuel would never respond to me again.
The ambulance arrived and transported Samuel away.

Shortly afterward, the police showed up and arrested Karen. She was later sentenced to death for premeditated mur- der.
As Karen was taken away, she appeared crazy, yelling, “I’m their beloved! Everyone should adore me!”
At the same time, I sought assistance from the police and charged Eric with his offenses.
The authorities took Eric into custody for investigation, and a case was initiated against him.
While Eric was out of the picture, Karen’s story went viral and dominated the trending news.
The Daglesh family’s stock tanked, losing tens of billions overnight.
Eric’s father was so infuriated that he suffered from high blood pressure and needed hospitalization.

Soon after, Eric received a three–year prison sentence for the deliberate kidnapping and illegal detention of an individ- ual, along with restricting their freedom.
Three years was a moderate span of time. By the time Eric completed his sentence, the Daglesh family had trans- formed entirely.
Eric was no longer the illustrious Mr. Daglesh he once was.
I took Samuel’s ashes and released them into the ocean.
Back when we shared tender moments, he promised that once he saved enough money, we’d leave everything behind and live on a quiet island by the sea–working at dawn and relaxing at dusk.
With Samuel now gone, I made sure to fulfill his dream for him.
I let the sea breeze guide him to the place he longed to be.
