Chapter 40.
Maras
Armando thought she was in pain.
He quickly lifted her into his arms, laid her gently on the bed, then retrieved the first aid kit, applying the medicine with great care.
“Did the bodyguards hurt you?” he asked, his voice suddenly filled with anger.
“I guess…” Jovana whispered, her lips trembling as she looked away.
She couldn’t help but think back to how, even if she had just scraped herself, he would have been so tender, apologizing for not protecting her.
But now, the injuries she had were because of him.
Tears welled up in her eyes again.”I’ll do it myself…”
Armando took her hand gently, massaging it before bringing it to his cheek and pressing a soft kiss to her palm.
“I’m sorry, Vana,” he whispered.
“It’s my fault. I let others hurt you. It won’t happen again,” he said.
His eyes met hers, filled with sincerity, making Jovana falter for a moment, caught off guard by his
devotion.
Suddenly, the phone’s ringtone shattered the moment.
Armando’s brow furrowed. He immediately silenced the phone and threw it aside before leaning in to kiss Jovana.
“It’s Xavier. Don’t worry about them.”
In that instant, Jovana caught a glimpse of the screen.
Juliette’s face flashed across it.
The small bit of warmth Jovana had left in her heart was instantly extinguished by a cold wave.
Her gaze turned icy as she pulled away from his kiss, lying back on the bed.
‘I’m tired. I’ll sleep now.”
Armando looked at her cold, distant figure with frustration.
Normally, a few kind words would soften her, but now, she was pushing him away. She didn’t even want
him to touch her.
The phone on the table buzzed again, its screen flashing with images that sent a rush of blood to
Armando’s head.
He narrowed his eyes.
He pressed his tongue hard against his back teeth, a deep, frustrated sigh escaping him.
“Baby, I’ll heat up your milk in the microwave. I’ll go grab it,” he murmured.

Then he picked up his phone and went downstairs.
The video call connected.

Juliette’s seductive voice echoed through the speakers as she played with her body, saying, “Mando, I miss you… I’m wearing the clothes you bought for me. Do you like it?”
No one knew about his secret little indulgences.
Juliette was a siren.
Armando’s eyes darkened, the light fading from them.
He stared at the screen, his throat tightening.
But the last time, Juliette had lied to him about her pregnancy, nearly exposing their affair to Jovana.
He wasn’t happy about it.
He lit a cigarette and took a deep drag, speaking lowly, “I’ll have Normand send you some money in a few days.”
“Is he trying to buy me off?” Juliette thought.
She immediately became uneasy.
She stopped her movements, her eyes filling with tears as she said, “No, Mando, I didn’t mean to deceive you. I just… missed you so much. I was wrong, I’ll never do it again.”
Armando pressed his forehead, his patience thinning.
He did have feelings for her, and she was obedient in bed, not causing any trouble.
But when it came down to it, he knew where his priorities lay.
Juliette’s voice trembled as she said, “Mando, we’ve been so careful with our relationship. If Jovana knew, with her temper, she would’ve confronted you by now. Her sudden coldness could be because of
something else.”
Armando froze at her words.
He narrowed his eyes,”What do you mean?”
Juliette sniffled, “I’ll send you a photo, and you’ll understand. Jovana’s been deceiving you all along.”
The photo appeared on the screen.
It was a photo of Jovana and Harland-taken days ago.
They were together at a bar.
And they got into a car together.
Most damning of all, the coat Jovana was wearing was Harland’s.
Armando’s face darkened.
He had suspected something was off at the hospital. The coincidence of their encounter was too strange

to ignore. Harland was the CEO of a major group, so he shouldn’t have lowered himself to personally go to the hospital.
And Juliette was still throwing more fuel on the fire.
“Jovana got out of the car wearing Harland’s coat, and they were in the car together…”
“Enough!”
Armando’s voice was cold as ice, his anger palpable through the screen.
Juliette’s lips curled into a sly smile.
She was eagerly waiting for Armando and Jovana to start fighting with each other.
