Chapter 34.

Harland glanced at the soft, plush toy, the faint scent of Jovana lingering on it.

Jovana arrived at the operating room just as her grandmother had come out of surgery.

The doctor was still unsure whether she would survive the next twenty-four hours.

Trembling, Jovana approached the doctor, her voice shaking, “I’m Armando’s wife, Jovana. There’s a VIP Ward at the Dunbar family’s facility, Could you have my grandmother transferred there?”

The VIP Ward boasted the best medical equipment and was staffed with top-tier doctors. In every possible way, Ingrid would receive far better care there than in a regular ward.

The doctor paused. She knew Jovana was Mrs. Dunbar, but…

The doctor said, “Mrs. Dunbar, the VIP Ward is already occupied. There’s no room left.”

Jovana furrowed her brows, disbelief creeping in.”How could this be?”

At that moment, the nurse wheeled Ingrid into view.

She looked frail, her face pale and drawn. Heart disease had taken its toll on her, and her life was in the balance.

“Vana, if it’s not possible, let’s just put her in a regular ward,” Eddie sighed.

Jovana shook her head, eyes bloodshot.

In a situation as serious as this, her grandmother deserved nothing less than the best care.

She ordered Eddie to stay with her grandmother while she made her way to the top floor.

But as she approached the VIP Ward, a nurse stepped in her path, questioning her, “Who are you? Didn’t you know that without permission, you can’t come up here? Leave now.”

Jovana tried to explain, but stopped dead in her tracks when she heard a voice from inside the VIP Ward.

“I’m so proud of my daughter. She’s with Mr. Dunbar now; her future is secure. But isn’t Mr. Dunbar married? Juliette, are you sure you don’t mind?”

Juliette responded, “Of course not, Mr. Dunbar dotes on me. He doesn’t even bother dealing with his wife’s family anymore. Soon, I’ll take her place.”

Erin said happily, “That’s good to hear.”

Jovana’s body froze. Her face turned pale as she realized the truth.

It turned out that, without her knowing, Armando had allowed Juliette’s mother-an outsider-to stay in the Dunbar family’s VIP Ward.

But she remembered when Latisha had fallen ill, Jovana had wanted her to be placed in the VIP Ward, only for Armando to firmly tell her that only members of the Dunbar family were entitled to stay there.

Chapter 34

Anger boiled inside her as she hit her lip, her thoughts spinning. She was ready to storm into the ward.

A nurse impatiently stepped in her path, saying, “Mr. Dunbar personally instructed that no one is to disturb the patients. If you don’t leave, I’ll have to call security to escort you out.”

“Mr. Dunbar personally instructed?” Jovana thought.

Those words cut into Jovana like a knife.

With her eyes reddened, she snapped, “I’m Armando’s wife…”

Before she could finish, the nurse raised her voice, signaling to the security guards standing by.

“She disturbs the patient. Just take her out,” the nurse said.

They immediately moved to shove Jovana out of the way, not sparing her a second of speech, and unceremoniously threw her to the ground.

“This is your warning. If it happens again, we won’t be so kind. Mr. Dunbar will have no mercy either,” the guard coldly threatened.

After the warning, they turned and left.

Jovana’s back hit the sharp corner of the wall, the pain making her gasp, unable to utter a single word.

She clutched her phone, staring at the closed doors in front of her, the weight of hopelessness sinking in.

But Ingrid couldn’t wait.

Ignoring the pain, Jovana pushed herself to stand and headed downstairs to find the hospital director, dialing Armando’s number as she walked.

The calls went unanswered, each time greeted by the same cold, mechanical voicemail.

She trembled with exhaustion, her vision fading for a moment as the strength seemed to drain from her.

She braced herself for the fall, her body giving way to the weight of everything.

But instead of hitting the floor, she fell into a warm embrace.
