Chapter 2: I Want a Divorce

When Hazel woke up, she found herself in an unfamiliar room. The space was plain and simple, almost like a hospital.

Had someone brought her here? Was it Sebastian?

She immediately grabbed her phone to check. Not a single call. Not even a single message.

She let out a bitter laugh. What was she even expecting?

Clunk-the door opened.

An elderly doctor walked in.

Hazel quickly sat up. “Hi, did you save me? May I ask your name?”

“Just call me Dr. Grant,” he replied seriously. “Good thing I happened to be nearby yesterday, or your condition would’ve been very dangerous. With what you’re facing, you should be carrying emergency medication at all times.”

Hazel gave a bleak smile. “I was only diagnosed yesterday.”

She had originally planned to discuss treatment options with Sebastian yesterday, but his affair had completely disrupted her thoughts.

Her chest felt as though a heavy hand was gripping it tightly, dull pain pressing in.

“Dr. Grant, may I ask-what hospital is this?”

“This isn’t a hospital. You’re in the medical research center at Hawking Pharmaceuticals.”

“Hawking?”

Hazel’s eyes widened in shock. She remembered Sebastian telling her that Hawking had recently made major breakthroughs in blood cancer

treatment research.

They had just released Asidant-extremely rare and incredibly expensive.

Dr. Grant looked at her with a deep gaze. “You want Asidant? I have it, but it won’t be free.”

“How much do you want-”

“I don’t want your money. I’m developing a new experimental leukemia drug and need a test subject. You can think about it.”

Hazel’s face went pale.

A test subject? Wasn’t that just a lab rat?

Dr. Grant handed her a bottle labeled Asidant. “As a welcome gift, this one’s on me.”

Hazel left the Hawking Institute in a daze.

Suddenly, her phone rang. Seeing the caller ID-“Hubby”-a flash of hatred passed through her eyes. She declined the call.

It rang again. She declined it again.

Then came a flood of messages on WhatsApp.

[Baby, why aren’t you answering?]

[Ray said you never went to the hospital, and I couldn’t find you at home. I’m really worried.】

[Please tell me where you are.]

Hazel stared at those false, empty messages, a faint, sour ache spreading in her chest.

Once, when she lost signal while hiking and lost contact with Sebastian, he frantically searched the entire city for her for a day and night.

But now, after she’d gone missing the whole night, he only remembered her after waking up beside Vivian-and all he did was send a few texts.

Her chest felt like it was being crushed under a thousand pounds. She changed the contact name from “Hubby” to his name.

“Mrs. Cole, you’re finally back.” The housekeeper, Martha, came out to greet her. Seeing Hazel’s pale face, she quickly supported her. “Are you feeling

unwell?”

Hazel shook her head, then heard Martha whisper in her ear, “Madam is here.”

Hazel frowned instinctively.

As she walked into the living room, she saw a woman wearing a classic Hepburn-style black dress sitting on the sofa, elegant and imposing. Her gaze was indifferent and arrogant. “Where have you been? Why didn’t you bring Sebastian his lunch today?”

Hazel was used to her condescending tone.

In the past, to avoid making things difficult for Sebastian, Hazel would try hard to please her.

But now, she had no more strength for that. “I’m tired,” she replied flatly.

Constance looked stunned. “Tired? You’ve contributed nothing to Sebastian. You can’t even manage basic housewife duties. Three years, and you can’t even produce a child-how dare you say you’re tired!?”

She stormed over to Hazel, angrily pointing a finger at her. “Look at you! Walking around like a dead woman. If you’re really about to die, just leave the Cole family. Don’t drag us down with you.”

“Then I’ll divorce him.” Hazel suddenly spoke. The moment those words left her mouth, it felt like the boulder that had been crushing her for years

finally dropped.

Her eyes were calm and resolute. “I want a divorce from Sebastian.”

Constance froze, then sneered. “You? Divorce?”

“Yes, give me one billion, and I’ll divorce immediately.” She didn’t have much time left. Why cling to a failed marriage?

Constance had always wanted Sebastian to marry into high society-Hazel was sure she wouldn’t refuse this proposal.

Sure enough, Constance hesitated for only a moment before rushing to say, “Fine. If you’re willing to divorce, one billion is not a problem.”

“What are you two talking about?” A calm voice came from the doorway. Sebastian stood tall and composed. His dark eyes glanced coldly between the

two women.

Hazel’s gaze slowly dropped to the white shirt he was wearing. Bamboo was embroidered on the collar. She had bought all his clothes and always chose the same brand.

But this shirt-she hadn’t bought it.

The crack in Hazel’s heart grew wider. Cold air poured in like a raging wind.

Feeling a nosebleed coming, she covered her nose and rushed to the bathroom.

Outside the door, Sebastian’s warning voice sounded. “Mom, stop picking on Hazel. If I lose her, I’ll spend the rest of my life alone.”

“Don’t jinx yourself. No one’s irreplaceable.”

“I mean it. I can’t live without Hazel. And she can’t live without me either.”

Listening to his hypocritical, arrogant tone, Hazel clenched her fists tightly.

Sebastian. Without you, I’ll live much longer!
