Chapter 13: The Husband Who Caught the Affair

Hospital.

As soon as Dr. Grant arrived, he met with the specialists. After glancing at the test report, his expression turned grim. “Hemorrhagic shock.”

The doctor said, “There’s a bruise around her waist. Looks like a blunt force trauma. The biggest risk now is infection-if it turns septic, it’ll be life-threatening.”

Dr. Grant replied, “I have a targeted therapy drug. Let’s get it in her system first.”

The doctor seemed hesitant, but upon seeing the drug name, he nodded in agreement.

Dr. Grant dissolved the pill into a cup of water. Holding the glass, he turned to Elias Sterling. “Young Master, I need your help lifting her up.”

Elias looked at him with an indifferent glance.

Thinking Elias didn’t want physical contact, Dr. Grant turned to the doctor instead. “Could you-”

Before he could finish, Elias interrupted in a calm voice, “I’ll do it.”

He stepped over to the unconscious woman. She wore light makeup and an off-shoulder white gown-elegant, fresh, and stunning.

But now, lying in the hospital bed, her lips were tightly pressed together, her brows holding an unshakable sadness.

She looked so pale, like she might vanish at any second.

Elias leaned down and gently gathered her into his arms. Her frame was slim and delicate, and up close, she carried the faint scent of gardenias.

Dr. Grant came closer. “Tilt her chin up.”

Elias lowered his gaze, his eyes lingering on her softly curved lips, then lifted her chin with his slender fingers.

Dr. Grant slowly poured the medication in, bit by bit.

Only when Hazel finished every last drop did he let out a breath.

“All right. Someone needs to stay and monitor her condition.” He spoke while sneaking a glance at Elias.

Noticing Elias’s gaze still fixed on Hazel, something clicked in Dr. Grant’s mind. He added formally, “Young Master, I need to head back to the lab for some documents. I’ll have to leave her in your care.”

Elias gently lowered Hazel back onto the bed and gave a quiet “Mm.”

That was all Dr. Grant needed to confirm his suspicions.

So the ever-cold, abstinent Elias Sterling had feelings for Hazel?

But she’s a married woman..

His heart tangled with mixed emotions-part concern, part excitement.

Inside the hospital room.

Elias sat beside Hazel’s bed, absently playing with his phone. Out of the corner of his eye, he kept glancing at her face.

An injury on her waist?

He remembered how meticulous she was about her health. It didn’t make sense that she’d get hurt like this on accident.

And judging by what she was wearing tonight, she’d clearly been attending an event.

Elias frowned slightly, just as her phone lit up.

On the screen: Sebastian.

His gaze darkened. He knew that name. Her cheating husband.

He declined the call.

But it came again, persistent and relentless.

As the screen lit up again and again, he finally picked it up, glancing once at Hazel before sliding to answer.

“Honey, where are you? Don’t be mad, okay? I only got so worked up about your sister’s condition because I’m her doctor.”

Sebastian rambled on. When there was no response, he assumed Hazel was still mad. He sighed. “I know no matter what I say, you’ll still think I’m wrong. But please try to understand-it hasn’t been easy for me either, okay?”

Elias scoffed lightly. “What’s so hard about your life?”

Sebastian froze. His tone changed instantly. “Who are you? Why do you have my wife’s phone?!”

“You’re with her right now, aren’t you?”

“Do you even realize she’s a married woman? Put her on the phone-right now!”

Elias ignored his hysteria. Calmly, he said, “If you want to find her, come look yourself.”

Then he hung up.

He was about to set the phone down-only to meet a pair of wide, watery eyes staring right at him.

He was still holding her phone.

Even caught red-handed, Elias showed no shame or panic. His tone was casual, as if it were nothing. “You’re awake?”

Hazel stared at him. If she hadn’t recognized her own phone, she might’ve thought she was hallucinating.

She gave a soft “Mm” and raised her hand. “Can I have my phone back?”

Elias handed it over. “Sorry for picking up your call without permission.”

Hazel wasn’t the type to argue. She remembered everything before passing out. When the doctor told her to contact someone, the first person she thought of was Dr. Grant.

“Where is Dr. Grant?” she asked, glancing around.

“He left,” Elias replied.

Hazel nodded. Seeing that he hadn’t left, she guessed he was staying to look after her. Her voice was soft, sincere. “Thank you.”

Elias noticed she truly wasn’t upset about the phone. His gaze darkened slightly. “How did you get hurt tonight? The doctor said you went into hemorrhagic shock.”

A flicker of pain crossed Hazel’s eyes. She remembered being shoved into the table edge by Sebastian. Her lips curved into a mocking smile. “Got hit by a dog.”

Elias immediately picked up on her meaning. The “dog” was clearly her husband.

His expression darkened. “And you’re just going to let it slide?”

Hazel was a little surprised. For someone who seemed so aloof, he was surprisingly interested in her personal life.

Maybe it was just small talk-two people alone in a room.

She didn’t hide it. “I’ve already decided to divorce him.”

She had no idea how much longer she had to live. What time she had left-she wasn’t wasting it in misery.

She didn’t want Sebastian anymore. She wanted a new life.

Elias’s expression softened ever so slightly. His voice remained calm and steady. “If you need help, just say the word.”

Hazel was taken aback. This unexpected kindness moved her. If it weren’t for them, she might’ve died tonight.

“Thank you.”

In her eyes, Elias was just a drug trial participant. She didn’t know what illness he had, or if he simply needed the money.

Either way, he was probably just an ordinary person. The Cole family, on the other hand, was one of the four major families in North Capital. Suing Sebastian for divorce would be a nightmare.

Elias couldn’t really help her.

After Elias hung up on him, Sebastian exploded. He mobilized every connection he had to track Hazel down.

Eventually, someone reported she was at Second Hospital.

Without a second thought, Sebastian left Vivian behind and rushed over.

Just outside Hazel’s room, he saw her lying on the bed-and standing beside her was a tall, poised man.

That must be the man who seduced his wife.

Sebastian’s face twisted with rage. He stormed into the room.

“What the hell is going on here?!”

His voice was low and accusatory, like a husband catching his wife in the act.

Hazel glanced at him indifferently, then looked away like he didn’t exist.

That cold disregard only made Sebastian angrier.

Was it because of this man?

Is that why she’d been so distant lately?

“You! Turn around!”
