Chapter 12: He’s Fooling Around. She’s Fighting for Her Life.
The piano piece came to an end.
Vivienne looked at Sebastian with a shy, dreamy smile, “Sebastian, I really love you.”
A flicker of emotion passed through his eyes, but he didn’t respond.
Instead, he instinctively looked into the crowd, searching for Hazel.
When he couldn’t find her, a wave of unease rose in his chest. He quickly stepped off the stage, leaving Vivienne behind.
Vivienne’s expression darkened as she watched him rush off-and then spotted him gently coaxing Hazel into his arms.
Jealousy churned inside her like acid, eating her alive.
Her fists clenched so tightly they turned white.
Down below, Sebastian held Hazel close and murmured, “Babe, don’t be mad at me, okay? Just this once-I swear, it won’t happen again.”
Hazel tried to break free and looked up at him with scorn. “You knew I’d be upset, and you still said yes.”
“Sebastian, what makes you think I’ll keep forgiving you over and over?”
She had a heart too. She could hurt too.
Back then, Sebastian would’ve never done anything that might upset her.
But now? He knew it would hurt her and still gave in-for another woman.
She was sick of the hypocrisy. Disgusted by it.
Sebastian’s throat tightened. “It was just a song. She’s your sister…. and you know her condition. She might not even have another birthday. Do we really have to argue about this?”
Hazel nearly laughed. Her eyes shimmered for a moment, but the tears disappeared as quickly as they came-like a trick of the light.
“Yeah… doesn’t matter. No point in arguing. You don’t need to explain.”
“None of it matters anymore.”
They were getting divorced soon.
None of it mattered now.
Hazel shoved him hard.
Sebastian grabbed her wrist, his voice sharper. “Hazel!”
She snapped. “Let me go!”
But he didn’t. “Can you not make a scene?”
“You’ve been really out of line lately.”
Hazel looked at him like he was insane.
“Sebastian! You really think I’m the one at fault here? You don’t know what you’ve done?”
Her voice rose in fury.

And then-
A loud thud echoed from the stage.
Sebastian turned his head-and saw Vivienne collapse.
Without hesitation, he ran to her.
In the rush, his shoulder slammed into Hazel, sending her crashing into a table. The edge jabbed her lower back, leaving her doubled over in pain.
The words she had screamed were lost in the chaos.
Maybe he didn’t hear them.
Or maybe…. he didn’t want to.
Hazel watched as he scooped Vivienne into his arms and rushed outside, her own hands clenched so tightly her nails dug into her palms.
It hurt.
But she was numb to it now.
Sebastian laid Vivienne down in the back seat and slid into the driver’s seat.
But before he could start the car, a pair of soft arms wrapped around him from behind.
Vivienne’s voice was low and tender. “I really thought you didn’t care about me at all.”
Sebastian froze, his face darkening. “You were faking it?”
Vivienne looked hurt and innocent. “I just wanted to feel like I mattered. It’s my birthday. If I didn’t do something, you wouldn’t even stay with me.”
His expression stayed grim. “Vivienne, I told you-Hazel must never know about us.”
“If you pull something like this again-”
“What?” she cut him off, “You’ll leave me? You know how jealous I am… how much I envy her.”
“She gets a lifetime with you. And me?”
“I only have a few months left. If you don’t want to see me, then maybe I should just die now.”
She lunged toward the window, trying to slam her head against it.
Sebastian quickly blocked her, alarmed. “Vivienne, I didn’t mean that. Fine-just don’t do anything like this in front of Hazel again.”
Before he could finish, Vivienne hooked her arms around his neck and kissed him hard.
Meanwhile, Hazel was curled over in pain, her injured back nearly making her faint.
She gripped the table edge, trying to force herself to stand.
But her knees buckled, and everything went black as she collapsed to the ground.
The siren wailed down the street and pulled up to the hotel entrance.
And inside the car, Vivienne was sitting on Sebastian’s lap. Her legs straddled him. Her arms locked around his neck.
Her shoulder strap had slipped. Her skin glistened with sweat.
His breathing grew heavier by the second.
“You little minx,” Sebastian muttered, his eyes bloodshot.
Only Vivienne could do something like this.
She looked so innocent, so pure-but acted like a temptress.
He loved Hazel.
But his body….
It needed this kind of thrill.
The ambulance siren grew louder and louder.
Sebastian looked up instinctively, spotting a crowd forming in front of the hotel.
He saw someone being wheeled into the back of the ambulance.
Who?
A wave of unease swept through him.
Hazel was rushed to the hospital.
After a quick exam, the doctor diagnosed her with leukemia and requested immediate contact with her family.
The only number she gave was Dr. Grant’s.
Once again, she had to trouble him.
But he was the only one who knew her condition well enough. He was the best person to be there.
When Dr. Grant got the call, he jumped to his feet.
Across from him, Elias Sterling slowly lowered the newspaper covering his face. “Where are you going?”
“Hazel’s been hospitalized. It’s serious. I need to go check on her.”
Elias’s voice was calm and flat. “I’ll go with you.”
Dr. Grant looked alarmed. “Sir. That’s… not really allowed.”
Elias gave him a cold look. “Who said I wasn’t allowed?”
Dr. Grant hesitated. Technically, no one had.
The family’s orders were simply: keep Elias safe at all costs.
But Elias didn’t feel like arguing. He strode ahead. “Wait longer and she’s dead.”
He raised an eyebrow and quickly followed behind.
