Valerie stayed silent. She hadn’t done anything whatsoever.Â
Sonia then collapsed as she passed out without being able to question Valerie further.Â
A strange, sweet scent pricked Valerie’s nose all of a sudden. She glanced at the door to see several men standing there.Â
Her heart lurched. So, she’d been set up.Â
Valerie passed out right then and there, feeling slightly amused by this sudden change ofÂ
events.Â

The sea breeze was blowing languidly on the cruise ship’s deck. Half an hour later, the ship would reach a deserted island. Based on the trip’s original trajectory, it would circle once around the island before returning to the mainland.Â
Lucius let the sea breeze wash over him, his shirt and hair freely fluttering in the wind. There was a rugged sense of attraction to him at that moment.Â
“Who knew Mr. White enjoyed sea views?” Darrell said, having just finished talking to someÂ
business partners.Â
He then took two glasses of wine from a server’s tray before handing one to Lucius. “Cheers?”Â
Lucius took the glass before clinking it with Darrell’s. He then drank the wine in one gulp before placing the glass back on the tray.Â
After bidding Darrell goodbye, Lucius turned and left.Â
“Why don’t we have a chat, Mr. White?” Darrell called out.Â
Lucius glanced at him. “What’s there to chat about between us?”Â
Darrell smiled and leaned close to Lucius, speaking in a volume only they could hear. “Do you like Ms. Collins?”Â
Lucius‘ eyebrow cocked high and proud. “How’d you come to that conclusion?”Â
“Only men truly understand other men’s hearts, Mr. White,” Darrell said in a somewhat self- depreciative tone. “Your behavior and the way you look at Ms. Collins tell me without a doubt that your feelings for her are something special ”Â
Lucius‘ face remained solemn as he remained silent.Â
People’s relationships were a little mysterious to comprehend at times. Lucius had fromÂ

finding it difficult to accept Valerie as his wife to being used to her presence in his daily life. He realized that he’d had a change of heart toward her during this process.Â
Darrell continued to elaborate, “Ms. Collins is a very charismatic young woman. She’s not just intelligent she’s also one–of–a–kind. Men very easily find themselves wanting to protect a woman like her.Â
“But Ms. Woodward is very much lacking compared to Ms. Collins. Even if Ms. Woodward is meant to substitute Ms. Collins, there is, in truth, nothing that Ms. Woodward couldÂ
substitute Ms. Collins for.”Â
When Darrell saw the slightest hint of a reaction on Lucius‘ face, he leaned leisurely against the railing and smiled. The wind swept across his hair, tousling it.Â
“Ms. Woodward and Ms. Collins have very similar eyes, but Ms. Woodward lacks a bit of spirit. A substitute is still a substitute–it will never replace the real deal.”Â
“What is it you’re trying to convey to me with all your nonsense, Mr. Foster?” Lucius asked.Â
“Instead of hoping for something from a substitute, why not let your past go and start over with a woman who’s far more suitable for you?”Â
Lucius chuckled upon hearing those words.Â
“What are you laughing at?” Darrell asked.Â
“Don’t you think it’s pathetic that you’re telling me all these things when you’re in such a state yourself?” There was bitter mockery in Lucius‘ eyes. “Everyone in our circle knows that you’ll never be rid of the shackles put on you for the rest of your life.”Â
Sure enough, Darrell’s expression changed.Â
Lucius patted his shoulder. “You’re nothing but a pawn for your family to manipulate. Your life was doomed to be a tragedy from the very start.”Â
