Chapter 64 

Besides, Valerie had healed the chronic pain in Noah’s arm. 

But Jonah leaned close to warn him, “The woman picking on her used to be in the entertainment industry. Do you really want to step in before you know the full picture? Don’t forget who we are. Neither of us can afford unnecessary trouble.” 

The reminder pulled Noah back from his impulse. Firstly, he and Jonah couldn’t risk drawing attention in such a crowded place. Secondly, he was curious to see how Valerie would handle 

herself. 

Back at The Golden Chalice, Valerie had left an impression on him so deep he hadn’t been able to shake it. There was something extraordinary about her, as though she was nothing but secrets waiting to be uncovered. 

Anyone else, facing Marnie and Marceline’s twin assault, would have broken down in tears, or at least flushed red trying to defend themselves. 

Valerie, however, remained composed. She sat on the couch with her pen spinning lightly between her fingers, her expression calm while insults rained down on her. 

The crowd thought she was frozen in fear. In truth, Valerie was watching Marceline’s every 

move. 

From the moment Marnie entered, Marceline had been fiddling with her blouse, tugging at the collar as if to hide the pearl necklace gleaming at her neck. 

Valerie had a good eye for design. She guessed that the pearl necklace was from a particular designer’s collection. What amused her was how closely it matched the style of the pearl 

earrings Marnie was wearing. 

Matching taste could be explained as a coincidence. But the way Marceline kept adjusting her collar suggested a secret she didn’t want revealed. 

Oblivious to the scrutiny, Marnie flashed a smile and said to Marceline, “I really do need to pick out some pieces today. Sonia will be attending the cruise auction as Mr. White’s 

companion. An occasion like that deserves the finest jewels.” 

The mention of Lucius was enough to stir whispers. His name carried weight throughout Windmere, and everyone had heard of him. 

Marceline’s eyes glittered with envy. “Mrs. Woodward, you truly raised an exceptional daughter.” 

The two women were practically performing a duet of flattery when Marceline’s phone rang.

The moment she saw the caller ID, her expression faltered.

She shot Marnie a wary glance, though Marnie didn’t catch the subtle move–but Valerie did. 

On Marceline’s phone, the caller ID flashed with a racy photo of her wrapped in a man’s arms. 

The moment Valerie got a good look at his face, she smiled. Just as she suspected, there was definitely something off about Marceline. 

In Marnie’s presence, Marceline didn’t dare answer the call. She stuffed the phone into her 

pocket, convinced she had covered her tracks. 

However, Valerie had no intention of letting her off so easily. With a flick of her wrist, a silver needle as fine as a strand of hair flew from her pen. It pricked Marceline’s arm, sharp enough 

to make her yelp and drop the buzzing phone to the floor. 

The screen lit up for all to see. The photo of Marceline entwined with a man was now in plain view, with Marnie staring straight at it. 

She froze. The man in the photo wasn’t just anyone–it was her husband, Skyler, the same man who shared her bed every night. 

She bent to snatch the phone, and her breath caught again. The number flashing on the screen belonged to Skyler. 

Marceline lunged to grab it back, but Marnie slapped her hand away. She answered the call, hit the speaker, and Skyler’s voice poured into the shop. 

“I’ve booked our usual room. You’ve got 30 minutes. I’m in a foul mood and need to blow off steam by giving you a hard time in bed.” 

Valerie nearly laughed out loud. She knew exactly why Skyler was in a foul mood. Losing two billion dollars in cash and the old mansion in a single stroke–of course he was seething. 

Marnie stood trembling from head to toe. Skyler’s familiar voice, echoing from the phone, 

was like a hammer to the chest.
