Parker had gotten the chance to team up with Owen once in the past. 

The latter had good mechanics, decent awareness, and preferred the jungler role. He was the JunglerLord who had ladies in the school swooning, the kind who looked invincible in casual games 

but fell apart the second he stepped into ranked games with real competition. 

Minutes after the texts were sent, Owen had pulled in two friends for the game. 

While Valerie was downloading the game, Owen asked, “Do you play Honor of Kings, too?” 

She shrugged as she waited for the installation. “A few rounds, but it’s been almost two years.” 

“What role do you play?” 

“Anything. I’ll fill in.” 

Aurelia snorted. “That means you don’t have a main hero, then.” 

Yvette snapped, “Worry about your own team and shut up with the nonsense.” 

While they were bickering, Valerie entered the game. Owen glanced at her hero list and fell silent. She 

had fewer than 20 heroes, each with abysmal proficiency levels. 

By the looks of it, she probably didn’t have runes, let alone skins. 

“Shall I lend you a smurf account?” he offered. His smurf account had all heroes, skins, and runes 

unlocked. 

“That’s not necessary.” Valerie declined. 

“No pressure, Valerie. You’re just filling a spot. Owen and his friends will take the lead,” Yvette chimed in reassuringly. She was starting to regret impulsively dragging Valerie into the game. 

A genius like Valerie belonged in a lab doing research, so dragging her into a mobile game of Honor of Kings felt almost unfair. 

Valerie nodded. “Right. I’m just here to make up the numbers, so play seriously and don’t worry 

about me.” 

The teams soon entered the hero selection screen. 

As a female player, Yvette excelled at mid–lane mages. Her best hero, Daji, was banned by the opponents, so she picked Angela instead. 

Since Owen’s preferred heroes, Han Xin and Li Bai, were also banned, he chose the less common Xuance as a jungler. 

Owen’s two friends selected Di Renjie and Lu Bu. 

That left Valerie with the support role. She scrolled through the hero list for a while before deciding

Seeing the lineup, Aurelia burst out laughing mockingly. “A blind Angela and a poor Cai Yan? I can tell that this game is going to be a massacre.‘ 

“We’ll see who ends up dead,” Valerie calmly said. 

Since Aurelia had picked Consort Yu, she was clearly aiming to be the team’s carry. 

In the early game, Aurelia’s support, Ming, stayed with the mage Wang Zhaojun to leech XP and ditched her in the top lane solo. Within the first minute, Owen’s Xuance ganked her. 

The jungler and marksman clashed, with neither gaining a clear advantage. 

Just as Xuance was about to fall, Valerie steered Cai Yan’s stroller over and healed him. 

With a sliver of health restored, Owen landed a basic attack and took down Consort Yu. He gave 

Valerie a thumbs–up. “Great sense!” 

Showing up just in time to assist a teammate meant she was doing an excellent job as a support. 

Aurelia was furious that she was the first to be killed and snarled, “Two against one? That’s just 

bullying.” 

Valerie replied, “I may not be an expert in games, but even I know that this mobile game is about team fights.” 

Aurelia nearly crushed her teeth from gritting them too hard. 

Owen and Yvette were skilled players. They knew that the early game required suppressing the carry to prevent the marksman from gaining a gold advantage.
