Yvette had managed to get her hands on a ticket once, until someone snatched it at the last minute.Â
Aurelia was the thief. Just thinking about it had Yvette grinding her teeth in frustration.Â
“As long as Parker was on our side, the ticket was as good as mine. But that traitor switched sides after Aurelia batted her eyes at him a few times and abandoned the whole team.”Â
It took Valerie a moment to fully grasp Yvette’s words. “Are you saying that there was only one ticket? Both of you wanted it, so to keep things fair, you agreed to settle it with a best–of–three inÂ
Honor of Kings.Â
“Parker, a top–tier player, was originally your teammate, but he defected for Aurelia and left your team one person short for this afternoon’s match?”Â
Yvette nodded vigorously. “That’s right! That’s exactly what I’m saying.Â
“Besides Parker, Aurelia teamed up with three other top–ranked players. The rest of my teammates are just average, and we were counting on Parker to lead us. With him gone, my chances of winningÂ
are close to zero.”Â
Suddenly, she looked at Valerie and asked, “Do you play Honor of Kings?”Â
“I tried a few rounds when it first launched, but I haven’t played much since,” Valerie replied.Â
Disappointment flickered in Yvette’s eyes before she quickly decided to change her mind. “It’s fine. Even if I don’t get Ascendant’s tickets, I won’t let Aurelia look down on me.”Â
She hooked her arm through Valerie’s. “The game starts in 20 minutes. I was going to give up, but seeing you boosted my fighting spirit. Come with me, and let’s crush them!”Â
When Yvette dragged Valerie to the student council office, they saw the flamboyantly dressed Aurelia, laughing and chatting with Parker York.Â
A hint of distaste flashed in Aurelia’s eyes when she noticed Valerie. “I thought you were going toÂ
withdraw, Yvette.”Â
She waved her phone. “My teammates are all top–ranked. You honestly don’t have a shot in thisÂ
game at all.”Â
Off to the side, Parker nodded and chimed in, “Just quit, Yvette. A game will just waste everyone’sÂ
time.”Â
“Spare me the speech, you fence–sitting coward,” Yvette shot back.Â
They’d been high school classmates and were both enrolled in Arcton University. There had evenÂ
been a bit of chemistry between them until Aurelia ruined it.Â
Parker’s expression turned ugly. “I just made the choice I thought was right. There’s no need for theÂ

sarcasm.”Â
“I’ve never seen anyone so shameless.” Yvette fumed.Â
Off to the side, Aurelia’s malicious smile widened. “Sounds like you’re just angry and bitter, Yvette.”Â
Before Yvette could explode, Valerie caught her arm and said, “Your phone’s been ringing non–stop.”Â
Yvette checked her messages before her face paled with anger. Then, she whispered to Valerie, “It’s my other three teammates. They’ve all decided to quit after hearing Parker bailed.”Â
Aurelia covered her mouth and laughed. “Everyone quit? Are you still going to play?”Â
Just then, Owen walked in with members of the student council and was surprised to see Valerie present. After learning about what happened, he offered, “Since Yvette’s short on teammates, shall I get a couple of people to fill in?”Â
Yvette clapped her hands. “Yes, please! I’d really appreciate that.”Â
Aurelia’s expression fell. “Are you going to help Yvette?”Â
“Is that a problem?” Owen asked.Â
She had no answer for that and only leaned toward Parker, whispering, “I’ve played with OwenÂ
before. He’s a jungler who only plays Li Bai and Han Xin well. Ban these two heroes during the match.Â

“Got it.” Parker nodded.Â
