“Well paid? How well?” Valerie curiously asked. 

Instead of hiding the truth from her, Lucius said, “Three to five times the market rate, depending on their annual performance review.” 

Valerie was slightly surprised. Based on Windmere’s salary standards, a housekeeper like Hannah working for a wealthy family would usually earn around 2,000 to 3,000 dollars per month. Three times that would roughly be 9,000 dollars, equivalent to a manager in a major corporation. 

It was no wonder Hannah endured the humiliation and punishment just to keep her position. Anyone would be tempted by such high annual earnings. 

Valerie faked a deliberate sigh. “Back when I worked at a rehab clinic, I only made 450 dollars a month.” 

Lucius chuckled as he pulled her into his arms. “From now on, I’ll take care of you.” 

She seriously replied, “From what I’ve seen, women who believe that line usually end up badly. A woman needs the ability to create her own wealth. Relying on someone else means that you’re at risk of losing everything and ending up with nothing years from now.” 

“Can you give me some examples of these miserable women?” 

“You can find endless posts like that online,” Valerie replied. 

Lucius sighed in defeat. “Some of these posts are just stirring up gender conflicts. I didn’t think you’d buy into that.” 

“It’s the bad behavior of most men that lowers women’s trust in men overall,” Valerie snapped. 

“You should try having a little faith in me. After all, we’re going to be sharing a bed for life.” 

Now that Lucius thought about it, spending his life with someone as intriguing as Valerie might bring endless surprises. 

Valerie didn’t press the topic further and said, “As for Caelus, there’s no need to meet him.‘ 

“Why?” Lucius hadn’t expected such a sudden shift. 

She said honestly, “He won’t live through the night.” 

He was clearly shocked by such an unusual answer. “Do you think someone will silence him?” 

She leaned lazily in his arms, chewing on a fresh apple. “The fact that he requested to meet you means his death is near.” 

Valerie’s eyes reminded Lucius that Caelus couldn’t have acted alone. He must have had backing. During the interrogation, Caelus had taken all the blame and was perhaps waiting for rescue from

behind the scenes. Suddenly asking to meet Lucius now meant he either had a change of heart or his allies had abandoned him. 

At that, Lucius was about to call Noah when Valerie stopped him. “Caelus will die tonight.” 

When Lucius‘ hands stilled as he held the phone, Valerie solemnly continued, “I read his fortune on the cruise ship. His death is approaching, and there’s no reversing it. Even if you save him tonight, he won’t last more than three days. 

“Caelus‘ death is a sealed fate. If you interfere, you’ll only bring karma upon yourself, and it’ll seriously affect your 

your fortune.” 

Lucius looked at her in surprise. “Are you proficient in physiognomy, too?” 

Valerie took a bite of the apple before she replied, “I’ve studied a bit of all The Mystic Five.” 

Then, she added, “Not an expert, though.” 

She’d never enjoyed fortune–telling for others. Magnus had warned her that revealing heaven’s secret would make her fate more complicated and unpredictable.
