Chapter 129Â
Valerie blinked. “What secret?”Â
Skyler said, “Valerie, are you still going to play dumb at a time like this?”Â
He jabbed an angry finger at Serenity Residence. “You knew perfectly well that this place was set up with a wealth–gathering array, yet you still tricked me into transferring it to you. How could you scheme against your own father like that? Do you not have any conscience?”Â
Before Valerie could respond, Skyler barked out his order, “You’re coming with me right now to transfer the property back under my name. And don’t start telling me that sentimental crap about how your mother left it to you as a keepsake. I don’t want to hear a word of it.Â
“You came to Windmere for money. I’ll double the money I already gave you. The moment the place is under my name, the rest of it will be in your account.Â
“With that much money, you should be able to live comfortably for the rest of your life. As your father, I’d say that’s more than generous.”Â
Valerie adopted a look of sudden realization. “So, the property Mom left me actually had such a huge secret behind it. A wealth–gathering array? Does that mean endless fortune will flow my way as long as I live here?Â
“My dear mother was so farsighted–such a visionary. If this place is that great, I wouldn’t sell it, even for ten times the price.”Â
Skyler’s eyes bulged with fury. “Valerie, don’t push your luck. Why would a woman like you need a wealth–gathering array? While you still have your looks, you should go find a reliable man and get married.Â
“With that much money as a wedding gift, you’ll still have enough money to buy yourself a safe place to live out your days, even if you get dumped when you’re old and ugly.”Â
Valerie let out a short, disbelieving laugh. “Skyler, don’t you think you can keep provoking me like this just because we share some blood. From the day this house was registered under my name, it became mine, and it’ll stay that way.Â
“IfÂ
you dare touch my property, I’ll make sure you pay the price.”Â
As Valerie stepped through the gate, Skyler shouted behind her, “Windmere is full of hidden forces. There are powerful people everywhere.Â
“You’re a woman with no background or backers. Do you think you can hold onto a treasure like this? One day, they’ll tear you apart so badly that not even your bones will be left.Â

“Out of fatherly compassion, I’m willing to take that risk for you. As long as you give me the property, I’ll even triple your money. That’s enough for you to live in luxury forever.”Â
The only answer he got was the heavy slam of the door.Â
Skyler furiously kicked at the wooden panels. “Valerie! Don’t be stubborn. Everything I said is true! You should get rid of it quickly while no one knows you’re the owner. Once those hungry wolves close in, it’ll be too late for regrets.”Â
But to Skyler’s frustration, the sturdy double doors wouldn’t budge no matter how hard heÂ
kicked.Â
In a fit of rage, Skyler waved at his men. “All of you, come here and keep smashing.”Â
Those men came forward with tools in hand.Â
One of them raised a sledgehammer and swung it down at the plaque.Â
But he had either used too much force or lost control, because the hammer slammed straightÂ
onto his own foot, causing him to scream.Â
Blood spilled through his shoe onto the ground, and the sight made everyone else wince.Â
Skyler exploded, “What the hell is wrong with you? How could you screw up something this simple?”Â
Then, he turned to the others and shouted, “Don’t just stand there. Keep smashing!”Â
