Chapter 125Â
Skyler slapped down a check filled out with a large sum before the hospital director. “Handle the aftermath however you see fit.”Â
Seeing the long string of zeros on the check, the director’s smile almost split his face. “Don’t worry, Mr. Woodward. I guarantee that this will be settled within a week.”Â
He had already sent someone to look into the young nurse’s family background. Her parents were uneducated farmers who had struggled to put their daughter through college, borrowing tuition and living expenses from relatives.Â
A family like that could easily be silenced with a few hundred thousand.Â
As for the beaten nurse, the director thought she had only herself to blame. What kind of fool dared to offend Jay Woodward? Getting beaten up was practically what she deserved.Â
Inside the ward, Skyler scowled at his son. “Can’t you stay out of trouble for just a few days? Count for yourself. How many times have I had to clean up your messes?”Â
Jay looked utterly unconcerned. “I was just teaching that mouthy wretch a lesson. Is that really worth you yelling at me like this? Dad, don’t forget that I’m still a patient.”Â
Skyler clenched his teeth in frustration. “Would things like this keep happening if you even acted like a patient?”Â
Jay scoffed. “I’m going insane from being locked up in this dump all day.”Â
Looking at Jay’s slightly thinner face, Skyler felt a pang in his chest. “Just hold on a little longer. Once I find a suitable kidney donor, you’ll get to leave this place soon.”Â
Jay asked coldly, “What about that bastard of yours? Why not use her kidney?”Â
Ever since his diagnosis, Jay had often heard the name Valerie.Â
In his mind, the woman he had never met existed solely as a vessel meant to provide him with a kidney when his life was in danger.Â
Skyler showed no displeasure at his son calling Valerie a bastard. After a few unpleasant encounters with her, it was hard for him not to feel a deep resentment toward his daughter.Â
Just then, the ward door burst open, and Sonia stormed in. “Dad, I finally found you!”Â
After leaving Azure Bay, Sonia had been searching all over for Skyler.Â
After asking around, she learned that Jay had caused yet another incident at the hospital.Â
Skyler lowered his voice sharply. “Shouldn’t you be in university right now? What are you doing here?”Â
Sonia didn’t bother hiding anything in front of Jay and got straight to the point. “Dad, how much are you planning to sell Serenity Residence for?”Â
Skyler looked confused for a moment. “What’s that?”Â
“The old place our family has sitting empty out by Pentaring,” Sonia explained.Â
Before coming to the hospital, she had driven over to take a look and discovered that theÂ
house was still as run-down as ever. However, at some point, a plaque had been hung over the main entrance with gold-painted words, “Serenity Residence”.Â
Skyler was surprised by the question. “Why are you suddenly asking about that property?”Â
Jay chimed in mockingly, “All of the Woodward family’s assets belong to me. Even if you wanted to fight for it, you wouldn’t stand a chance.”Â
Sonia shot him a glare. “Even your sickness can’t keep your mouth shut.”Â
Skyler scolded, “Sonia! Watch your tone. Don’t forget he’sÂ
your brother.”Â
Not wanting to bother arguing with a patient, Sonia said, “Dad, I came here for a real reason. Did know that Lucius White is interested in buying that property? He’s even willing to payÂ
youÂ
double the market price.Â
“I looked into it, that property’s current market value is at least 150 million. Double that makes 300 million, which isn’t a small sum.”Â
Skyler’s heart skipped a beat. That run-down house had reached such a price?Â
Sonia’s eyes gleamed with greed. “Dad, if someone’s really offering that much for it, let’s sell it! We’ve got plenty of other properties, anyway. One less won’t make a difference.”Â
