Chapter 117

“What do you mean, you haven’t decided on a name yet? Don’t tell me the pill you fed me while we were underwater isn’t even on the market,” Lucius said.

Valerie smiled. “That pill was just a product from my lab that’s under development.”

Lucius didn’t know how to describe what he was feeling at the moment.

He never thought that he’d become a lab rat for Valerie one day.

“What about the anti-inflammatory pill you gave me after that? Surely that’s been approved by the state?”

Valerie countered, “Tell me, which anti-inflammatory pill on the market can make a bullet graze scab over within 24 hours?”

The more Lucius listened, the more shocked he became. “So, that anti-inflammatory pill was another semi-finished product from your lab?”

Seeing that Valerie didn’t deny it, Lucius felt like his worldview was being destroyed.

He asked, “Is Darrell out of danger now?”

For once, Valerie showed some normal emotion. “You know that Darrell was on the brink of

death?”

Lucius didn’t hide it. “I only found out slightly before you did.”

Compared to others who had been on the cruise ship, Darrell had always had a unique

constitution.

The drug Caelus put in the food only caused a few hours of discomfort for the others, but Darrell had such a severe allergic reaction that he had to be hospitalized for treatment.

Lucius never expected the mastermind behind it all to actually send assassins to the hospital

to silence Darrell.

He hadn’t expected Valerie to be the one who would pull Darrell back from the edge of death, either.

As the car drove to Azure Bay, Valerie asked, “You weren’t the one who tried to poison Darrell, right?”

Lucius raised a brow. “You’re that sure it wasn’t me?”

“Anyone with a brain wouldn’t attempt an assassination during such a sensitive period.”

“The conflict between us isn’t nearly bad enough to concern life and death.”

Valerie murmured, “But the one pulling the strings might not think so.”

Lucius asked, “What’s Darrell’s stance on this?”

“He’s convinced someone’s trying to sow discord.”

Lucius let out a short laugh. “At least he’s not stupid.”

Valerie hadn’t wanted to pry into his personal matters, but she still asked, “Do you have any suspects?”

He replied simply, “We’re investigating.”

Valerie helped Lucius into the living room, where Hannah and Kara greeted them.

When Hannah saw Valerie, a flicker of resentment appeared in her eyes.

The lash marks on her body were still aching faintly, and she had gotten them because of

Valerie.

She thought she had hidden her venomous gaze well, but Valerie caught it instantly.

Realizing her thoughts had been seen through, Hannah quickly lowered her head, masking her true emotions beneath a submissive front.

Valerie found Hannah rather amusing. Ever since Valerie moved into Azure Bay, Hannah had shown some inexplicable hostility toward her.

Hannah probably had some weird fantasies in her head. She probably thought she was a pitiful housekeeper in love with the handsome master of the mansion, dreaming of one day becoming his wife.

Only, the master wasn’t just handsome. He was also charming and flirtatious, always surrounded by women. Sometimes, he would even bring them home.

In Hannah’s mind, Valerie was probably the vicious villainess who ruined the romance between the two main leads.

Lucius had no idea what was going on in Valerie’s head, but when he saw the mischievous smile on her face, he couldn’t help but pull her thoughts back to the present. “Are you hungry?

Valerie nodded. “A little.”

Lucius gave Kara instructions. “Make a late-night snack. Something light.”

Kara turned and went right to the kitchen.

Hannah forced out a fake smile as she said, “Mr. White doesn’t usually eat late-night snacks. It looks like he’s making an exception for you, Ms. Collins.”
