Chapter 116

Valerie was a little speechless. “I wasn’t even planning on going back.”

Lucius said, “That’s fine. I’ll go wherever you go. As husband and wife, we’re always better together.”

So, he was trying to cling to her now?

Of course, Valerie couldn’t possibly take Lucius to her lab.

She simply gestured for him to follow. “My car’s over there. Come with me.”

Lucius didn’t move an inch. “I can’t walk without someone helping me.”

“If you can’t walk, why did you even come out?”

“I was worried because my wife didn’t come home all night.”

Lucius didn’t realize how naturally the word wife slipped out of his mouth, and that it was even making him feel a hint of sweetness inside.

Valerie reminded him, “You seem to keep forgetting that our marriage is supposed to be a

secret.”

Lucius glanced around. “There’s no one nearby. I’m not afraid, so why are you?”

Not wanting to waste any more time arguing, Valerrie had no choice but to help him toward her parking spot.

It was Lucius’ first time sitting in Valerie’s car. It was a spacious SUV, and even though the exterior looked a little old, the interior was decently equipped.

After the engine started, Lucius asked, “Ever thought about getting a new car?”

Valerie looked puzzled. “My car runs just fine. Why would I change it?”

Lucius said honestly, “The model’s outdated, and the exterior looks worn. It’s not like you’re short on money.”

After receiving two billion, anyone else would’ve replaced a beat-up car right away.

Valerie looked slightly displeased. “If I bought a new one like you wanted, it’d count as marital property. When we divorce, you’d be entitled to half of it.”

Lucius was dumbfounded. “Even if we do get a divorce one day, I’d never take a single cent from you.”

Valerie smiled brightly. “Good. That puts me at ease.”

This left Lucius at a loss for words. She was far better at getting under his skin than he’d

imagined.

“Why didn’t you come home last night?” Lucius asked.

Valerie didn’t hide it. “I was in the lab all night, running experiments.”

Lucius suddenly seemed to realize something. “Were you researching that semi-finished product?”

Valerie nodded. “I can’t just let 30 million go to waste. I need results soon.”

“How’s the progress?”

“It’s still under development.”

Lucius tilted his head slightly. “How many people are there in your lab?”

Valerie shrugged. “It’s just me.”

Lucius paused for a moment. “Don’t you have a team?”

“I work alone.”

Of course, this woman not only worked alone, but she was also incredibly cunning. Otherwise, there was no way Valerie would have been able to steal his auction item right under his nose.

After a moment, Lucius asked, “Back when we were underwater, did you give me some kind of pill?”

Lucius still couldn’t forget the look of astonishment on the doctor’s face.

The doctor had said that a normal person would’ve either died on the spot or fallen into a permanent coma, even if they were rescued after an ordeal like that.

But not only was he perfectly fine, there wasn’t even a trace of heart damage after a full round

of scans.

Lucius hadn’t said anything to the doctor, but deep down, he’d long suspected that it was the pill Valerie fed him.

What kind of medicine could have such miraculous healing power?

Valerie nodded absentmindedly. “Yes, I did give you one. It was meant to protect your heart.”

Lucius asked, “What’s it called?”

Valerie turned the steering wheel to make a corner. “I haven’t thought of a name for it yet.

Why don’t you name it for me?”

Lucius was stunned by that.
