When Lucinda had seen Valerie at The Golden Chalice, she had been completely stunned. 

At that moment, she had wanted nothing more than to rush over and ask why Valerie had vanished for an entire year. 

Fortunately, reason had won over emotion, or she might have confronted Valerie right there in public.

Valerie paused mid–bite. “We just met recently.” 

Lucinda warned, “Stay away from him as much as you can.” 

Valerie frowned. “Do you have a grudge against him?”
