The Kalen family estate was vast, more than just a single residence. Their bodyguards lived
there as well, so Thomas moving in would hardly seem out of place.
Sharon paused for a few seconds before asking, “Will Thomas be agreeable to this arrangement?”
“I already asked him,” Wendy replied. “He has no objections. To him, one place is the same as any other.”
Sharon didn’t make a fuss. “As long as he’s willing. There are more than enough rooms here. If I want someone to stay, it won’t be a problem.”
“Good.” Wendy finally looked reassured. “Sharon, while I’m away, if anything happens, you must reach out to me. Don’t you dare keep it from me.’
“I know,” Sharon said softly.
With that, Wendy took her leave.
Once she was gone, Sharon gently cradled Shaluna in her arms. She would never again allow anyone to take what belonged to her.
The next day, Sharon arrived on time at the place she had agreed to meet Julliard.
An art exhibition was being held in Marcentine, and Julliard, who seemed interested, had
invited her to attend with him.
Though Sharon’s hands could no longer play the violin, one of them wasn’t completely ruined-she could still paint. It had been years since she’d picked up a brush, and perhaps now was the right time to rediscover that long-neglected joy.
When she arrived, Julliard was already waiting at the entrance. The moment he saw her, his eyes lit up and his lips curved into an unguarded, gentle smile.
“Hi, Sharon.”

Just as Sharon was about to speak, the driver’s side door opened.
Thomas stepped out. His features were striking, sharply defined-like the sky after rain, clean and luminous.
Julliard’s smile froze in place.
But Thomas was already walking toward him, all warmth and ease, greeting him with the bright demeanor of sunlight breaking through clouds.
“Good morning, Julliard.”
Sharon quickly explained, “Julliard, Thomas is here to protect us. The Walton family has influence in Marcentine, and I worry they might resort to desperate measures against us.
Thomas’s lips curved, his gaze resting lightly on Julliard, carrying a hint of irony.
“Julliard, rest assured. With me here, Sharon will never be harmed again. What happened last time will not happen a second time.”
The words struck Julliard at his core, nearly shattering the mask he wore. He understood perfectly what Thomas meant.
If he had done his duty, Sharon’s hand would not have been destroyed. Shaluna would not have been lost.
If not for his selfishness, Jamie would never have had the chance to hurt Sharon.
It was all his fault. Because of him, Sharon would never again play the violin.
Julliard lowered his gaze, forcing his emotions back under control. “You’re right, Sharon. Good job thinking ahead.”
Though on the inside, Julliard was seething, “Thomas has won her trust far too easily. He
cannot be allowed to remain.’ 2
But now was not the time.

The three of them entered the exhibition together.
Though Thomas was technically Sharon’s bodyguard, he walked at her side, conversing with her now and then. They seemed less like bodyguard and employer, and more like old
friends.
Julliard, walking on her other side, felt like the unnecessary one.
When Sharon overheard Thomas discussing the artwork, a look of genuine surprise crossed
her face.
“Thomas, I didn’t know you were into art?”
“Just a passing interest,” Thomas replied modestly. “I know enough to hold a conversation, but I’m hardly an expert.”
His candor drew a laugh from her.
“You’re far too modest.”
In truth, Sharon knew very little about him. Thomas rarely spoke of his private life; she didn’t even know what he had done before entering hers.
But lately, she was beginning to realize-he seemed to know quite a lot.
