Chapter 983
“You want to question him–what, so he can be his own judge and jury?” Thomas asked.
Silas snapped coldly, “Shut up. No one asked for your opinion!”
He was still seething from the humiliation Thomas had made him suffer in front of everyone earlier.
Thomas paid him no mind and continued evenly, “With Jamie’s mental composure, what answers do you think you’ll get? Even if he did confess, then what? Will your family kill him? Cripple his hand? Or cut off every last deal with the Walton family?”
The room froze over once more.
As one of the nation’s most powerful families, the Kalens had their own survival system. Cutting ties with the Walton family wouldn’t destroy them.
But the real issue was this–every order Jamie funneled to the Kalen family was practically a gift: profits split two to eight. The Walton family took twenty percent, the Kalens, eighty.
For families at their level, even one percent of such cooperation was staggering. The thought of giving up such lucrative terms was unthinkable.
At that moment, Victoria finally spoke. “If Jamie truly did this, then however Sharon wishes to deal with him, I’ll support her. But if Sharon has misunderstood, then she must apologize to Jamie for what just happened.”
Her stance was fair. The problem lay in proof.
Victoria wasted no time. Soon enough, she returned with Jamie–Johanna trailing close behind.
She turned to him. “Jamie, you must have heard about Sharon’s kidnapping and injury. I want to ask -was it you who abducted her and crippled her hand?” 1
All eyes landed on Jamie.
Richard’s gaze sharpened with authority. Rick’s eyes grew heavy with depth.
Scott and Silas stared without blinking, determined not to miss a single twitch of his expression.
Under that crushing scrutiny, Jamie merely arched a brow.
“Why would I do that? Sharon and I bear no grudge. Why would I abduct her and destroy her hand?”
Victoria pressed, “But the last time you visited me, you were extremely discourteous toward Sharon.”
Jamie’s lips curved faintly. “Oh, that? I explained it clearly–it was only to give her a fright. Later, even apologized. I thought the misunderstanding was already settled. Who would’ve guessed…

Sharon is still brooding over it.”
He sighed theatrically, then turned to Sharon.
“Sharon, I admit my little joke went too far. But if you choose to return the joke, I suppose that’s understandable. Still, you slapped me in public, then doused me with wine. Offering me a simple apology shouldn’t be too difficult, should it?”
He wore the mask of a magnanimous gentleman. But in the fleeting glint of his eyes, mockery and provocation flickered like a blade.
Forcing the victim to apologize to her tormentor–he could already imagine Sharon’s fury. Perhaps she would snap, right here in front of everyone.
How dare she return to the Kalen family? Worse, to brazenly step into their company’s halls. Clearly, his last warning hadn’t been harsh enough.
A cruel light flickered across Jamie’s gaze. Once Sharon gained real power in the company, she would only become harder to deal with. He doubted Sharon had the ability to stir up any real storm–but with men like Carter and Xavier backing her, she was dangerous. 1
Maybe the best way to handle her was to drive her insane, lock her away in an asylum, and end her threat once and for all. Even if she wasn’t mad, he would make sure she appeared so.
As Jamie’s mind churned with ways to push Sharon into breaking down before the crowd, a man’s voice–clear and cool, like steel cutting through frost–shattered his thoughts.
“Surely you don’t believe your actions left no trace or evidence at all?”
