“Sharon.” A trace of guilt flickered across Richard’s face. “What happened back then was indeed my fault. I didn’t believe you, and for that, I owe you an apology.”
Richard was, after all, a man who knew when to bend and when to stand tall. Even in front of all his children, he could admit his mistakes without feeling the slightest loss of dignity.
He continued, “As for today’s banquet, I never invited Jamie. I had no idea he would show up uninvited.”
Then he turned to Rick. “Rick, what’s going on? How did Jamie get here?”
This banquet had been arranged entirely by Rick to highlight Sharon’s importance. As the eldest brother–mature, steady, and reliable–he was always entrusted with such tasks. Richard had felt reassured leaving the matter in his hands.
Rick’s brows tightened. He lowered his voice. “My apologies. It was my oversight.”
Silas and Scott exchanged puzzled looks.
“Dad, Rick, what’s going on? Why shouldn’t Jamie be here?”
Not only Victoria, but even Silas and Scott were in the dark.
At this, a cold laugh stirred in Sharon’s chest. She had already noticed that Scott, Silas, and Victoria
had no idea what Jamie had done to her.
Her hand had been ruined, yet not only did Richard and Rick refuse to seek justice for her, they had even tried to conceal the truth. Did they really think she was some meek pushover who would let them sweep everything under the rug?
Victoria turned to Rick as well. “Rick, what’s going on?”
Rick knew the matter could no longer be hidden after Sharon’s public outburst. So, he explained how Sharon’s hand had been destroyed, and by whose doing.
Silas, stunned, blurted, “Couldn’t there have been some kind of mistake?”
He swung his gaze toward Sharon. “Are you certain you didn’t misidentify him?”
Sharon’s lips curved coldly. “My hand may be ruined, but my eyes are not.”
Scott pressed, “Who can prove it?”
Rick replied, “The one who was kidnapped alongside her–her close friend, Wendy.”

Silas’s eyes flickered. “So you mean, apart from Wendy, there’s no one who can testify that Jamie

destroyed Sharon’s hand?”
Scott’s expression darkened with suspicion. “Lex disappeared in Listoria City, whereabouts unknown. And now you claim Jamie kidnapped you in Listoria City and crippled your hand. Could it be you’re doing this on purpose to cripple Victoria’s suitors?” 1
Silas chimed in, “In Zachemaine, Sharon has the protection of Carter and Xavier. No matter how powerful the Malcolm and Walton families may be, their reach isn’t that long. And besides, Sharon has no proof–only her word. I think it’s reasonable to doubt the truth of this accusation.”
At first, Richard and Rick hadn’t questioned her story.
When she first told them, they believed her without hesitation. After all, in Amstern City, Jamie had pulled a gun on her, had openly threatened her his behavior had been utterly excessive.

“Why don’t we call Jamie here and let everyone confront the truth face–to–face?” 1
Thomas’s voice cut through the heavy air, cool and sharp as glass. “And how many murderers, after killing, step forward to confess what they’ve done?”
