Johanna sneered as she turned to Victoria, her eyes glinting coldly. “You enter Kalen Group, and now Sharon wants in too. She’s doing it just to embarrass you.”
But Victoria’s features showed neither jealousy nor resentment. She remained calm, unruffled.
“Dad and Rick said Sharon can no longer play the violin. With nothing else to occupy her, she didn’t want to idle away her time. Entering Kalen Group is just to fill a position. A sinecure, nothing more-the Kalen family can afford it.”
Johanna stared at her in frustration.

Jamie inclined his head slightly. “Why aren’t you two inside? What are you doing standing at the entrance?”
Johanna gave a huff, her expression full of annoyance. “Because of Sharon, of course.”
Though most of Jamie’s injuries had healed, the bullet lodged dangerously close to his heart left his complexion unnaturally pale, almost sickly. Yet his presence was as imposing as ever, his expression stern and unyielding.
“What now? Did she bully Victoria again?”
Before Johanna could answer, Victoria quickly interjected.
“Jamie, don’t listen to her nonsense. Sharon hasn’t bullied me.”
Johanna pressed on, unwilling to let it go.
“Even if she hasn’t done anything else, the fact that she’s entering Kalen Group is a direct challenge to you!”
Jamie’s brows arched sharply.
“Sharon is joining the Kalen Group?”
“Yes. Richard announced it himself just now. And tonight, many of the company’s
shareholders and board members are here.” Johanna gestured with her chin toward Sharon. “Look, she’s already mingling with the Kalen shareholders.”
Jamie followed her gaze. Sure enough, there was Sharon, surrounded by a circle of businessmen, smiling with effortless grace, carrying herself with calm confidence, unshaken even under their scrutiny.

Johanna, too busy glaring at the young heiresses who tried to strike up conversations with
Thomas, missed the meaning of his words.
“What did you just say?”
“Nothing.” A thin, icy curve lifted Jamie’s lips. “I’ll go say hello.” 1
With that, he strode directly toward Sharon.
Meanwhile, Scott and Silas had fully expected Sharon to embarrass herself at such a grand banquet, nervous and out of her depth. They never imagined she would hold her own-her composure every bit as polished as Victoria’s.
