Chapter 965

If not for the hatred he nursed toward Sharon and Julliard, Lex would never have lasted this long.

When Julliard stepped into the basement, his gaze fell on the man crumpled in the corner, broken and lifeless like a stray dog left to die. A flicker of regret passed through his eyes.

Not long ago, Xavier had told him that Damien and Cole had already confronted Sharon, demanding she release Lex. Xavier hadn’t spelled it out, but the meaning was clear-Damien and the others were looking for Lex.

No wall is airtight. Sooner or later, they would find this place.

That left Julliard with two choices: release Lex, or erase him from existence. 1

The moment he’d dragged Lex here, Julliard had already made up his mind. If he killed Lex and destroyed the body, suspicion might never fall on him. But if he let Lex go, the consequences would be endless.

His eyes glinted with reluctant pity. He still hadn’t had his fill of tormenting Lex.

But with the trip to Marcentine with Sharon just days away, his time was running short. Better to deal with the problem now.

Drawing a knife, Julliard prepared to end Lex’s life with his own hand.

To him, Lex-beaten into something less than human-wasn’t even worth a thought.

But just as he thrust forward, Lex, who had seemed half-conscious all this time, suddenly snapped his eyes open. A razor-sharp gleam cut across them.

Lex’s hand shot out, seizing Julliard’s wrist mid-strike. With a sudden twist, the knife slipped free.

Caught off guard, Julliard’s expression darkened as he lunged to reclaim the weapon, but he was already too late.

Lex, once groomed to inherit his family empire, had not forgotten his training. Even at death’s door, he could seize an opening

and turn it into an advantage.

He drove the blade toward Julliard’s heart.

But his battered body betrayed him. The strike landed off-center, not fatal, but enough to rob Julliard of his strength for the

moment.

Lex wasted no time. He didn’t stay to finish the job, didn’t risk another blow. He bolted for the door. 1

Lingering would cost precious seconds and might give his enemy the chance to cut him down.

Ignoring the knife embedded in his own flesh, Julliard staggered after him.

By the time he reached the corridor, Lex had vanished.

mediately called his assistant, ordering a full manhunt. 1

At least Sharon had already left Listoria City. Otherwise… with Lex cornered like a desperate beast, her life might have been in danger. 1

Sharon stayed in Amstern City for only a week before boarding a plane bound for Marcentine.

With her were Wendy and Thomas.

Neither Sharon nor Wendy found the place unfamiliar-they had spent four years studying here. Sharon had even lived in Marcentine briefly before her university days.

The moment they stepped off the plane, Wendy asked, “Sharon, are you planning to stay at the Kalen family estate, or get a place of your own?”

“Rick wants me back at the Kalen estate,” Sharon replied.

Wendy frowned. “Sharon, if you live with them, won’t that family eat you alive? Four men and Victoria too-that’s a straight-up five against one. You should just move out. I don’t believe they’d dare cut ties with you.”

Sharon’s lips curved faintly. “Don’t worry. Back then, I was too young to read the game, so I ended up being wronged. Things are different now. I won’t be bullied so easily. Besides…”

Her eyes darkened, deep and unfathomable.
