Chapter 963

The blood in Thomas’s veins boiled again. It had been a long, long time since he last felt such a raw, murderous urge.

“Thomas? Thomas?”

A woman’s familiar voice-cool and gentle, like a stream pouring over smoldering embers-extinguished the flame in his chest

and pulled him back to himself.

Sharon was watching him. “What were you thinking about?”

Only then did Thomas realize that Xavier and Wendy were gone. Xavier had left, and Wendy had gone to see him off.

“Nothing,” Thomas murmured.

Sharon studied him. “Yesterday, I asked Uriah about your insomnia. He said it’s most likely psychological…” She chose her words

carefully. “If the underlying cause can be treated, then your insomnia could be cured.”

Her tone was gentle, but Uriah hadn’t been so diplomatic when he told her, “That young man has serious psychological issues. I

can treat the body, but when it comes to the mind, I’m no expert.”

Sharon had promised she’d try to help. She suspected Thomas had chosen to stay by her side in the first place because he wanted

this illness cured.

She had researched the matter thoroughly. Music therapy was indeed one of the most effective methods for treating insomnia.

But…

Her gaze dropped to her own hands, and sorrow flickered in her eyes. She could never play the violin again.

A dark hatred she thought buried stirred and swelled until it filled her heart. She had never hated anyone this much-not Carter,

not Kelly.

Hate, like love, consumed too much of a person’s soul. But Jamie was different. Jamie had destroyed her chance at a new life.

Thomas’s voice broke through her thoughts. “I’m afraid it won’t be easy.”

Sharon snapped out of her spiraling emotions and looked at him. For a fleeting moment, she caught a trace of self-mockery-and

self-loathing-on his face.

She froze. That expression seemed so out of place on someone like him.

But then she reminded herself-why couldn’t someone bright and cheerful on the outside have shadows within? Perhaps he

carried some private burden, some wound he couldn’t shake.

Her voice softened, like an elder sister offering comfort. 1

“Thomas, have you… gone through something painful before? You can tell me, if you want. Sometimes saying it aloud makes it

easier.”

Thomas’s long lashes trembled faintly. “And what about you?”

He rarely spoke of his own past. Even after “regaining his memory,” he almost never mentioned it. Until now, people only knew his name. The rest of his life remained a mystery.

He was like a silent observer, standing apart from the world. No matter what happened, he never faltered, never panicked, never betrayed his calm.

Wendy was curious about his past. Of course, Sharon was too. But she never forced anyone to reveal what they weren’t ready to

share.

“My past?” Sharon gave a faint smile. “It’s hardly a secret. If not for Kelly, I might have been buried alive in the grave of marriage. In a way, I should thank her. She gave me a different life.”

Thomas’s gaze darkened suddenly.

“Then have you ever thought about… starting over? Dating again?”
