Johanna and Victoria had no idea that Jamie had been the one behind Sharon’s abduction. When they saw the news of Sharon being kidnapped and gravely injured, they were stunned.
Hearing Victoria’s account, Johanna gasped. “It was that serious?”
Victoria said, “Anyone daring enough to kidnap Sharon in Zachemaine is likely an enemy of the Kalen family. It makes sense that Rick warned me. And with the recent assassination attempt on Jamie, this could be the escalation of some family business war. They’re resorting to dirtier methods now. For the time being, we need to be extra cautious.”
Her gaze fell on Jamie, lying unconscious and gravely wounded. The sight drove home the weight of
her words.
“You’re right,” Johanna said at last. “I’ll reassign some of the bodyguards Jamie entrusted to me. They’ll protect the both of us.”
Only then did Victoria’s tense expression soften.
After a month of Uriah’s meticulous care, Sharon’s hands finally began to move again. From needing help with even the simplest tasks, she could now feed and bathe herself without troubling others.
During that time, Wendy had handled everything for her.
They had been friends since childhood. Though Sharon felt uncomfortable at first, she admitted it was better than relying on strangers. Wendy stayed by her side night and day, eating and living with her, caring with a devotion that surpassed even professional nurses.
Sharon tried many times to persuade her to rest, but Wendy refused.
“Sharon, let me look after you,” Wendy said with quiet resolve. “No matter the reason, it’s because of me that you can’t play the violin anymore. Taking care of you eases my guilt. Otherwise, I’d need a psychiatrist just to get by.”
Hearing that, Sharon could only relent.
During her hospitalization, Matty had visited her once.
Carter asked if she wanted Theo to come as well, but Sharon immediately refused. She feared Jamie still had hidden schemes in play.
Truthfully, she hadn’t even wanted Matty to come.
But unlike Theo, who was under strict protection and cut off from outside news, Matty had seen the

reports. He made such a fuss about visiting her that Xavier eventually arranged a private plane and assured Sharon–over and over–that no harm would come to him. Only then did she agree.
Even now, though she could manage basic tasks, Sharon’s hand remained fragile. She couldn’t carry anything heavy or overexert herself; rest and recovery had to come first.
One day, after another careful examination, Uriah set down his tools and looked at her warmly.
“Sharon, the main course of treatment is finished. From here on, it’s about rehabilitation. I’ll also be consulting with some renowned orthopedic experts abroad to see if there’s a chance your hand can fully regain its flexibility.
“Sharon, whatever happens, you mustn’t give up.”
Sharon smiled gently. “Don’t worry. I won’t.”
He studied her for a moment, then asked, “I hear you’re planning to join the Kalen Group and move into commerce?”
Sharon didn’t hide it.
“Yes. My mom left me some original shares. They’ll be unfrozen next month. I’d thought I could sit back and collect dividends like a hands–off shareholder. But now… with nothing else to occupy me, shifting into business might be the best choice.”
Uriah stroked his silvered beard, eyes twinkling.
“That kind of ambition is admirable. You are my apprentice, and I’ve yet to give you a proper gift. Since you’re set on entering the business world, as your mentor, I should present you with something truly worthy.”
