Thomas thought for a moment, then gave a slight nod.
“I see… that’s fine.”
Sharon decided to share her plan with him. “My entry into the Kalen Group isn’t just for show. I intend to become a controlling shareholder, just like Rick and the others. For that, I need someone capable and trustworthy at my side to protect me.
“I know your previous work must have paid well. I’m willing to offer you double that. I’ll provide housing and a car, with year–end bonuses as well. If you have any other requests, tell me. As long as it’s within my ability, I’ll do my best to meet them.”
She paused, then added, “If you don’t have anything else tying you down, would you working with me?”
With that, Sharon fell silent, giving Thomas time to think.

Sharon waited, but he didn’t answer. Instead, he sat there in a daze, as if lost in thoughts she couldn’t begin to guess. She couldn’t even tell whether he’d heard a word she said.
Finally, she asked softly, “Thomas, were you listening?”
He snapped back to himself. “What?”
…He really hadn’t been listening.
Patiently, Sharon repeated, “I want to hire you as my bodyguard. The conditions are up to you. As for the salary, do you have any requirements?”
“No,” Thomas said.
“Do you want to think it over before deciding, or-”
“No need,” he interrupted.
Her heart lifted suddenly, caught in a strange, breathless tension. She hadn’t felt this nervous in a long time–not even before a competition.
“And your answer is…?”
“I agree,” Thomas said simply.
Relief washed over her, and she smiled. “As for the pay–any preferences?”

“You can talk it over with Wendy,” he replied carelessly.
“All right.”

Sharon was about to tell him to rest, but saw he had already taken a seat on the ward’s sofa.
“Even if the hospital has cleared all threats,” Thomas said evenly, “not even a safehouse guarantees absolute safety. We can’t let our guard down.”
His words made Sharon think of Jamie’s assassination attempt. She studied him and asked, “Did your hear what happened to Jamie?”
“I did,” Thomas said with a faint nod.
Since he was now officially her bodyguard, she saw no reason to withhold the truth.
“After Jamie was shot, he was rushed to the hospital. But then someone managed to stab him inside. the ward. I suspect a hired assassin.”
Slipping into a heavily guarded hospital wasn’t easy–especially disguised as medical staff. It sounded simple, but given Jamie’s status, breaching such security was no small feat.
Thomas arched a brow. “Is that so?”
“Mhm. Wendy heard it from Carter.”
As they spoke, Wendy walked into the room.
The moment she saw Thomas, delight lit her face. “Thomas, you’re back!”
She had been desperate for his return. Only with Thomas around could she truly feel at ease.
Catching Sharon’s eye, she silently asked whether Sharon had brought up keeping him. Sharon gave a slight nod.
Wendy’s smile widened, brimming with satisfaction. “Thomas, once Sharon becomes the queen of the boardroom, we’ll all be living the good life.” 2
