Carter’s words tore away their flimsy facade, stripping Richard and Rick of their pretense. Both men’s expressions darkened with shame.
Richard’s gaze fell on Sharon’s bandaged hands, disbelief flickering in his eyes.
“Sharon… does this mean you’ll never be able to play the violin again?”
Sharon looked down at the hands wrapped tightly in gauze and gave a faint nod.
“Yes,”
Richard’s face twisted with fury. “How dare he…”
This time, his anger was genuine.
He had never placed much hope in Sharon in other areas, nor had he demanded much from her. Yet what he never expected was that her violin playing would prove so extraordinary–better even than
Victoria’s.
When he first learned of it, he had been surprised. Then he found it perfectly reasonable.
After all, Sharon was Shayla’s daughter.
Shayla had been remarkable—so remarkable that even without the top–tier resources of a powerful family, she had raised such an outstanding child.
When Victoria told him that Sharon stood a strong chance of winning the competition, he had felt a surge of pride. As a daughter of the Kalen family, at least Sharon possessed something worth showing the world. 1
If Sharon truly loved the violin, then for her to shine in that field, he was more than willing to support her. With a championship title, her career would soar to new heights.
And it was perfect timing. Soon, they had planned to welcome her back into the Kalen family. Having a world–class violinist in their ranks would bring honor and prestige–proof that all the Kalen family’s children were destined for greatness. 1
But now… Jamie had ruined everything.
At this moment, Richard felt a deep, genuine disgust toward Jamie.
He could tolerate Jamie disregarding the Kalen family. For the sake of greater interests, he could even turn a blind eye to Jamie secretly abducting Sharon. 1
But to deliberately destroy her hands–that, he could never forgive.

And if one day Jamie decided the Kalen family had wronged Victoria, would he strike at them just as ruthlessly?
Richard’s voice was low and cold. “Rick, spread the word. From today, gradually reduce our cooperation with the Walton Group. Begin searching immediately for replacement partners.”
Rick reacted instinctively. “Dad, don’t be impulsive-”
“I am not being impulsive!” Richard cut him off sharply, his tone frigid. “Do you really think that without him, our company would collapse? Any partner who dares harm Sharon–we have no need for them!”
Rick sighed, helpless. “Dad, I don’t mean to oppose you, but such a decision must go through a shareholders‘ vote. The Walton Group is currently one of Kalen Group’s most vital partners. We cannot sever ties with a single word.”
Carter and Wendy watched the father and son bicker, their expressions tinged with contempt.
They had come to visit Sharon, yet neither even knew the extent of her injuries. Their vow to never let Jamie off was nothing more than empty promises of revenge “someday“. It was pathetic.
In that moment, Carter suddenly understood. He understood why Sharon had always kept the Kalen family at arm’s length. Why she’d rather endure the whispers about her “unsuitable” marriage than reveal her true lineage. Why she would willingly give up the gilded title of heiress to a powerful clan just to cut all ties.
It was simple: Richard and Rick did not deserve her.
Just then, Sharon’s voice cut calmly through the tension.
“Dad. Rick. You don’t need to trouble yourselves with Jamie.”
Both men fell silent immediately, their attention snapping to her.
Meeting their gaze squarely, she continued, “Since my career as a violinist is over, I find myself with a lot of free time. I think it’s time I joined the Kalen Group and made a proper career of it.” 2
