Chapter 942
If Jamie had escaped by helicopter, then all their precautions, all their networks, had been for nothing.
So much time had already passed-he was likely far beyond their reach.
Silence settled over the room.
Julliard’s thoughts strayed to Lex, who was still locked away in his basement. At least he still had Lex in his grasp-someone to vent his fury upon.
Breaking the tense quiet, Julliard spoke. “I have matters to attend to. I’ll take my leave first.”
At that moment, everyone’s attention was fixed on Sharon’s ruined hands and Jamie’s escape from Zachemaine. No one paid him much mind.
Even Carter only gave him a glance before withdrawing his gaze.
Xavier said, “Since Jamie has already escaped, we’ll put his case aside for now. The priority is treating Sharon’s hands.”
Wendy, finally regaining a measure of composure, muttered, “Sharon still has a competition the day after tomorrow, but… but…
Everyone knew what she couldn’t say aloud-Sharon would likely never compete again.
Just two more matches, and she would have been crowned the overall champion. But now, fate had dealt her a cruel hand.
Wendy brushed the tears from her cheeks. “Later, I’ll release a statement announcing her withdrawal.”
Carter said, “Don’t disguise it. Tell the truth.”
Wendy froze, then understood his intent.
This calamity had begun with Victoria. Her suitor hadn’t just kidnapped Sharon-he had destroyed her hands. The Kalen family owed Sharon an explanation.
Wendy nodded. “All right. I understand.”
Carter’s eyes darkened. “And if Victoria dares to show up with Jamie to apologize, we will detain him. No matter what.”
Xavier’s expression hardened. “Rest assured. If he dares to come, he won’t walk away so easily this time.”
The two men locked eyes. No words were spoken, but a temporary alliance had been forged. (1)
Jamie was, after all, the head of the Walton family. Striking against him would not be easy.
With other arrangements to make, both Xavier and Carter soon left Wendy’s ward.
Only Thomas remained, silent as ever.
Wendy glanced at him, hesitated, then asked softly, “Thomas, you alright?”
If he had been there last night, Sharon might never have been taken so easily.
Thomas finally spoke. His voice was quiet but sharp. “How exactly were you kidnapped?” 1
Wendy’s eyes flickered. “I fainted almost immediately. I don’t remember clearly.”
“Then where did it happen?” Thomas pressed.
“…At the hotel,” Wendy replied.

They had known each other long enough-he saw the lie instantly.
But he didn’t press further. Instead, he said, “I’ll be away for a few days. During that time, take good care of Sharon.”
Wendy blinked. “Your business isn’t finished yet?”
Thomas gave a vague hum of assent, then turned and left without another word.
That afternoon, Uriah arrived at the hospital.
He flipped through the X-rays and examination reports one by one, his brows furrowing deeper with each page.
Then he personally examined Sharon’s injuries. His expression grew darker, more severe.
After some time, he finally turned to Wendy, Xavier, and the others. “Let Sharon rest for now. We’ll step outside to talk.”
Understanding his meaning, Wendy and the others prepared to leave.
But Sharon suddenly spoke. “Uriah, stay. Speak here. It’s my body-I have the right to know.”
Uriah paused mid-step, then turned to look at her.
Sharon met his gaze.
