Chapter 940
Just then, footsteps echoed down the corridor.
Turning, Thomas saw Carter, pale-faced, appear at the end of the hall.
Catching sight of Thomas, Carter asked, “How’s Sharon?”
Thomas replied, “I’m not sure. I only just arrived.”
Without another word, Carter knocked and stepped into the ward.
Inside, Wendy was slumped over Sharon’s bedside, sobbing.
“Sharon, it’s all my fault. I dragged you into this… If I hadn’t spoken so recklessly, Jamie wouldn’t have held a grudge against you. Your hands wouldn’t have been ruined…” 1
Her tears streamed down her face.
Ever since regaining consciousness, Wendy had drowned in guilt.
Sharon, who had only woken moments earlier, whispered weakly, “Wendy, this has nothing to do with what you said. Even if you had kept silent, once the truth about Victoria being an illegitimate child came out, he would have blamed me regardless. 1
“What matters is that you’re safe. Otherwise… I’d regret it for the rest of my life.”
This time, Wendy had been implicated because of her.
Fortunately, Jamie hadn’t sunk into total madness-he hadn’t truly defiled Wendy. And thanks to Julliard’s men arriving in time, she hadn’t drowned.’
Hearing Sharon’s words only made Wendy cry harder.
Standing to the side, Julliard’s expression faltered. A trace of regret flickered across his eyes, swiftly buried beneath a deepening hatred for Jamie.
If he ever caught Jamie, he would make sure Jamie lived a fate worse than death.
Xavier broke the silence. “I’ve already contacted Uriah. He’ll arrive in Listoria City this afternoon. Sharon’s hands may not be beyond hope.”
At the mention of Uriah, Sharon’s eyes flickered.
After a moment of quiet, she said, “The one who kidnapped me was Jamie, not Lex. Lex never laid a hand on me. Don’t tell Uriah about Lex being there. It will only place him in a difficult position.” 1
Even now, she was mindful of Uriah, unwilling to cause him distress.
Wendy bit her lip. Compared to Jamie’s cruelty, Lex’s past misdeeds were little more than petty harassment.
Just then, a knock sounded at the door.
Carter entered, with Thomas following close behind.
Sharon lay pale on the bed, both hands swathed in thick bandages.
Thomas’s gaze lingered on her for only a second before he quickly looked away.
Carter moved to her side, his voice hoarse. “I’m sorry, Sharon. I failed to protect you.”
Sharon shook her head. “This isn’t your fault. I provoked someone far beyond what I could handle.”

No one could shield her forever. Her own strength had fallen short-before Jamie, she had been utterly powerless.
“Where’s Theo?” she asked. “Is he all right?”
“He’s fine,” Carter assured her.
Only then did Sharon’s tension ease.
“I’ve already contacted the best medical team available,” Carter added. “They should arrive tomorrow.”
Both he and Xavier asked further about her injuries, but though Sharon was awake, her spirit was still weak. After only a few words, fatigue clouded her face.
Seeing this, Wendy spoke up. “Sharon’s tired. Everyone should step out and let her rest.”
No one objected.
bey filed out of the ward, Xavier finally noticed Thomas. Since Thomas had entered Sharon’s ward, he hadn’t spoken a
word.
the others had gone, Wendy gently tucked the quilt around Sharon.
aron, rest for now. I’ll come back to check on you later.”
She was just about to leave when Sharon suddenly called out to her.
