Chapter 930

Sharon’s face twisted in agony. Her body convulsed as beads of sweat the size of raindrops pattered onto the floor.

For a fleeting moment, Sharon’s consciousness blurred-she truly felt as though death was only a breath away.

Sensing something was wrong, Lex hurriedly intervened.

“Jamie, enough. Don’t let this turn into a murder case.”

But Jamie’s lips curved into a cruel smile. He lifted his foot, giving Sharon a moment’s reprieve.

“Sharon, I’m far from done. Don’t you dare die so quickly. If you do, your dear friend will have to bear what comes next in your place.”

Lex’s expression shifted uneasily. “Jamie, that’s enough. She’s a woman. If your goal is to cripple her, you could simply have someone chop off her hand. Why torture her like this?”

Jamie leisurely drew a knife.

“If she doesn’t feel fear, if she doesn’t remember pain, she’ll never learn who she must never cross. If I don’t break her completely this time, she’ll only come back even bolder.”

Lex thought Jamie was insane. A surge of regret twisted in his chest-he should never have gotten entangled with him.

“But-”

Before Lex could finish, Jamie pressed his foot down again, grinding his polished black shoe against Sharon’s already shattered

hand.

The sight alone was painful enough; the reality was unbearable. And still, Jamie forbade Sharon from uttering a single cry.

Her pupils began to lose focus. She wondered if people, when close to death, truly saw those they once cherished.

She saw her mother.

She saw John, who had learned piano with her.

She saw Wendy, her classmate.

She saw Ginny, her fellow performer on stage…

And then she saw Carter.

She saw newborn Theo…

Her drifting mind carried her further. She saw the Kalen family’s fond expressions as they celebrated Victoria’s birthday, the way they looked at Victoria with adoration.

Victoria had been a princess in every sense. And she… had always been the intruding Cinderella in a world that was never hers.

Suddenly, she felt so tired. Too tired to keep holding on.

In her haze, Wendy’s sobs pierced through the fog.

“Sharon! Sharon! Don’t close your eyes! Don’t sleep!”

Since the day she met Wendy, she had rarely seen her cry. Wendy had always been like a warm little sun. As long as she was there, Sharon had never felt alone.

Meanwhile, in a hospital ward in Amstern City, Carter suddenly snapped his eyes open.

Beside him, Simon’s face lit up with joy. “Mr. Biggs, you’re awake!”

The first words out of Carter’s mouth were, “Where is Sharon?”

Simon froze for a moment, his gaze flickering uneasily. “She’s gone missing.”

By now, Lex bitterly regretted ever becoming entangled with Jamie.

Sharon lay on the floor, barely clinging to life, while Jamie continued mercilessly grinding her hand beneath his shoe. 1

Lex could hardly bear to watch. He had tried to stop him again and again, but Jamie refused to listen. Lex wanted nothing more than to walk away.

Suddenly, the phone in his pocket rang.

Glancing at the caller ID, his brows arched ever so slightly. His memory was legendary-part of why he had managed to seize the position of head of the Malcolm family.

Stepping closer, he murmured into Jamie’s ear, “Jamie, something isn’t right.”

Jamie halted and turned his head. “What do you mean?”

Lex’s voice dropped low. “The head of the Ferrero family… is calling me.”
