Chapter 917
When Thomas tried Carter’s number, no one answered.
What was going on today? Why was no one picking up? He wondered.
On his second attempt, the call finally connected.

“Hello, I’m Mr. Biggs’s assistant. May I know who’s calling, and what business you have with him?”
“This is Thomas,” Thomas replied. “I wonder if you still remember me, Simon?”
Simon’s memory was exceptional. Without much effort, he recalled Thomas at once. Thomas’s looks were far too striking–nearly impossible to forget.
“Thomas,” Simon asked cautiously, “what can I do for you?”
“I need to speak to Carter. Put him on the phone.”
Simon hesitated before answering. “Mr. Biggs is currently hospitalized with serious injuries. He’s unconscious… I’m afraid he can’t take your call.”
For a moment, Simon debated whether to reveal more. But then he reasoned that Carter’s condition was hardly a secret–Madeline and Denise had already announced it publicly.
Thomas’s pupils contracted. “How did he get injured?”
Simon faltered, then muttered, “He got into an accident.”
Thomas’s voice dropped several degrees, cold and commanding. “If you don’t want Sharon in danger, don’t try to brush me off.”
The name made Simon’s heart lurch. “Sharon? What happened to her?”
“Answer my question first.”
He remembered Carter’s final instruction before falling unconscious: If Sharon ever needed anything, everything must yield to her safety. And Thomas was her bodyguard. If he mentioned her now, it might truly mean trouble.
Simon dared not conceal the truth. He explained the situation in full.
Silence stretched on the other end.
Feeling uneasy, Simon asked, “Thomas… has something happened to Sharon?”
“She’s unreachable,” Thomas said flatly.
“Unreachable? But isn’t she in Listoria City, under Mr. Macaron’s protection? How could she-
“If you manage to reach her, call me back immediately.”
Without another word, Thomas hung up.

Carter was in a coma? With him out of the way, who knew what foolish moves Julliard might make?
And if Xavier was absent too…
Then there was no doubt–Sharon was in danger.
Thomas’s expression turned glacial. He dialed Xavier’s number.

This time, the call went through quickly. But in the background came a wash of noise, as though Xavier were in a crowded place.
“Who’s this?” Xavier’s voice sounded low and weary.
“It’s Thomas.”
“Thomas?” Surprise tinged his tone. “Did something happen?”
“Where are you right now?”
Xavier hesitated at the odd question, but answered, “I just got off a plane.”
“Where?”
“Amstern City. I just returned from a business trip.”
“So before today,” Thomas pressed, “you weren’t in Zachemaine at all?”
“That’s right. Why? Did something happen?”
Thomas’s voice deepened, heavy with foreboding. “Sharon may be in trouble.”
A splash of water struck Sharon’s face. She jolted awake.
“Awake?” The low, rasping voice carried an eerie familiarity.
Slowly, she opened her eyes.
A pale face came into view–so pale it bordered on bloodless. He loomed over her, thin lips curving into a chilling smile. 1
“Sharon,” he murmured. “We meet again.”
