Chapter 906

Jamie didn’t deny it. “That’s right.”

Lex’s voice shot up in disbelief. “Are you insane? You dared to stage an assassination on Carter in Amstern City? Do you have a death wish?”

Jamie’s tone was cool. “I was set up.”

“What do you mean?”

“I only intended to create trouble for Carter-keep him too busy to help Sharon. Killing him was never the plan. If he actually dies, it’ll cause me endless problems. So, I only arranged for two top-tier killers, just enough to put him in the hospital for a while. Who could have expected three more assassins to slip in?”

Lex immediately caught the flaw. “How did you even get Carter’s whereabouts? And arrange killers to lie in wait?”

“Two days ago,” Jamie said, “I received an anonymous tip. It claimed Carter would appear at a specific location today. I thought it might be a trap, but decided to test it. To my surprise, he actually showed up. That’s why I suspect the source is someone from within his own circle.”

People like Carter lived with their movements under strict secrecy. Even attempting to tail him would be useless-he’d notice quickly. After all, this wasn’t Jamie’s territory.

If he sent men to follow Carter, they’d inevitably attract the attention of local gangs. And if any of those gangs had ties to Carter, he would’ve walked straight into an ambush.

Jamie wasn’t foolish enough to take that risk.

Lex instantly grasped his meaning. “So you’re saying you’ll end up taking the blame for whoever leaked that information. Carter’s injuries could be pinned squarely on you.”

Jamie’s voice remained flat. “From what I hear, his injuries are severe. He won’t recover quickly. That gives me time to deal with Sharon. Once that’s done, I’ll leave Zachemaine.”

Lex pressed, “You already have a plan for her?”

“Of course,”

“What’s the plan?”

Jamie’s voice chilled, each word carrying menace. “Lex, haven’t you ever heard the saying? The more you know, the faster you die.”

Lex wisely held his tongue. Whatever Jamie intended, as long as misfortune fell on Sharon, that was enough.

Meanwhile, Sharon had returned to Listoria City to continue her competition.

Carter was out of immediate danger, but he remained unconscious.

When Wendy heard, she tried to comfort Sharon. “They say villains live a thousand years. Carter isn’t going anywhere.” (2

Then her brows knit with concern. “Do you think what happened to Carter was Jamie’s doing, or the so-called traitor in his circle?”

Sharon’s gaze grew pensive. “Perhaps both. Denise may have been used as bait.”

No matter how resourceful Jamie was, it seemed impossible for him to wound Carter so gravely within just a few days. If his reach were truly that absolute, Sharon would have perished long ago.

Wendy sighed. “And what about Xavier? Has he said when he’ll return?”

“Not yet,” Sharon admitted. “It’ll still be a while. I haven’t told him about this. Carter was already hurt because of me. I won’t drag Xavier into danger too.”

A faint shadow of worry crossed Wendy’s face. “But Jamie is far too dangerous. If only Thomas were here… With his skills, you’d be safe. Did he say when he’s coming back?”

“No,” Sharon said.

Wendy sighed. “I really miss Thomas…” (2

The two had just stepped out of the competition venue when a refined, handsome man approached them.

“Sharon, are you all right?”

She lifted her eyes. “Julliard? I thought you went back to Amstern City. How are you back here so soon?”

Julliard lowered his voice. “Before the accident, Carter entrusted me with your protection. If anything happened to him, he asked me to keep you safe.” 3
