Chapter 879
Every gaze in the hall locked on Sharon.
Ever since she defeated Harry, her name had spread like wildfire across the world. Rumor had it she would also represent Zachemaine in this competition. People whispered she was already the frontrunner for the championship.
That she drew attention upon entering the venue was only natural. What wasn’t natural… were the eyes fixed on her.
Even Wendy could sense something was off. The stares weren’t friendly.
They weren’t tinged with envy either, but with something stranger-an undefinable disdain.
Unable to hold back, Wendy whispered, “Sharon, why are they looking at us like that? Did we offend someone?”
Among the contestants present, barely anyone could play Gaze. Even open jealousy would have made more sense than this odd hostility.
Sharon said calmly, “Ignore them. Let’s check in first.” 1
Seeing her unfazed composure, Wendy relaxed a little, though unease still pricked at her- unease born of not knowing the reason.
Just then, Julliard walked in after a phone call. He immediately noticed the scene, his brows tightening. The air was sharp and predatory.
It was like a fawn had wandered into a pack of wolves-one careless step and it would be torn apart.
Fortunately, Sharon’s mindset was strong. She carried herself as though those stares did not exist.
The staff at the registration desk, members of the national music association, recognized her at once. A flicker of something complicated flashed in the woman’s eyes, as though she wanted to speak but dared not-not with so many people watching.
The formalities finished quickly. Sharon asked for the location of her performance hall, then led Wendy away. Better to familiarize themselves with the venue now than risk delays on the day of the competition.
She ignored the hostile glances, her expression serene, as though a wall shielded her from the weight of other people’s prejudice.
But on the way to the hall, three young women suddenly stepped in front of her, blocking her path. Their stance was sharp and aggressive-trouble written all over them.

Sharon’s tone was cool. “What is it?”
The one with dyed yellow hair sneered. “Well, well, the daughter of a mistress dares to compete? You really have no shame.”
The one with wine-red hair added sharply, “A woman like you dares to steal the spotlight from our goddess Victoria? Let me make this clear-the champion this year will be Victoria and no one else!”
The black-haired girl spat venom. “Shameless bastard child. Fuck off from this competition!”
Hearing this, Wendy instantly understood.
Her eyes blazed as she snapped back, “You’ve got it all wrong. Your ‘goddess’ Victoria is the one who was born of a mistress! She’s the illegitimate daughter. A counterfeit dares to flaunt herself before the true heiress? Where’s her shame?”
These three girls, though from wealthy families, were far from their family’s core. They were nobodies compared to Johanna, but devoted Victoria followers nonetheless. They worshipped her and couldn’t bear seeing her slighted.
And ever since Sharon’s fame had skyrocketed, people inevitably began comparing her to Victoria. Both were violinists, and Sharon’s beauty rivaled Victoria’s, making her an easy point of comparison.
Yet Victoria’s looks were legendary, unmatched in both society circles and beyond. 1
How dare Sharon-a divorced woman and a mother-be measured against Victoria? What right did she have? 1
