Chapter 844
The guy’s voice dripped with lechery, thick with sordid desire.
Thomas didn’t so much as glance in that direction. His steps never faltered. He had no intention of interfering.
“Oscar, if you dare lay a finger on me, my brother will kill you!”
“Johanna, don’t worry. I’ll take responsibility. Once I come to your family to propose, your brother won’t dare
kill me.”
“I’d rather die than marry you!”
Oscar cut her off with a low, mocking laugh. “By then, whether you marry or not won’t be yours to decide.”
Thomas’s expression remained impassive, his face carved from stone. He even quickened his pace.
Just then, a woman stumbled out of the flowerbeds ahead, hair disheveled, steps frantic.
“Johanna, stop running. You can’t escape me!”
She bolted blindly forward, only to spot a tall figure standing not far away. Her eyes lit instantly with hope, and
she ran straight toward him. 1
“My name is Johanna Walton!” she blurted breathlessly. “This man is trying to assault me. If you save me, I’ll
repay you generously!”
The path was dim, isolated, with no streetlamps nearby. From a distance, the man’s face was obscured. Only his
silhouette was visible-tall, lean, and commanding, as though darkness itself bent around him. His very
presence radiated a quiet menace.
Oscar Blakely barked a warning. “Don’t meddle in what doesn’t concern you! This is between me and Johanna.
Even if you run your mouth, no one will believe you. And the Blakely family will never spare you!”
The man in the shadows stood silent.
Johanna seized the moment. “If you save me, I’ll shoulder any consequences! I’m the eldest daughter of the
Walton family-you must have heard my name. Rescue me, and the Walton family will owe you a favor.
Whatever you want, you can ask! With my word, no one will dare lay a finger on you!”
For two long seconds, the man didn’t move.

Then he stepped forward.
Oscar’s pupils contracted. His instincts screamed: this man was dangerous.

The stranger emerged from the shadows with an unhurried grace. Moonlight washed across his features-
strikingly handsome, sculpted with almost painterly precision. His eyes gleamed like galaxies yet held the
fathomless depth of an abyss. Even the smallest movement carried an effortless nobility.
Johanna’s face lit with sudden joy. “Thomas, it’s you! Save me!”
Oscar narrowed his eyes. A chill pricked his spine, though he couldn’t explain why. He searched his memory
and, finding no match to any prominent heir, let out a silent breath of relief.
Even so, his grip tightened. In one swift motion, he drew a knife. The blade glinted under the moonlight.
He lunged, quick and precise, the strike angled with lethal cunning-proof he was no amateur. Thomas’s back
was turned; it should have been an easy hit.
But in the blink of an eye, a hand clamped around Oscar’s wrist like an iron shackle.
Thomas’s gaze turned glacial.
A sharp crack split the night.
Oscar’s scream tore through the garden. “Ahhh—!”
The dagger clattered to the ground, ringing faintly against the stones.
Johanna gasped, eyes wide with horror. Oscar’s wrist bent at a grotesque angle, twisted unnaturally.
Thomas had snapped Oscar’s bones-barehanded.
