Hearing this, Johanna’s heart sank.
Now she was certain-the person Thomas had been searching for was none other than Sharon.
Thomas continued, “At that time, I was suffering from depression. I was drowning in despair, feeling life had lost all meaning. But her music… it rekindled my will to live. In my heart, she became the one who saved me.”
Johanna’s expression shifted into feigned realization. She did not rush to claim she was the one he sought. Instead, she smiled.
“And you never approached her?”
“No,” Thomas said. “I was in no state to. By the time she left, all I found was an earring where she had been.”
His gaze fixed on her.
“Johanna, do you play the violin?”
“A little,” she admitted. “But I’m hardly proficient.”
“And the piece First Love?” he pressed.
Johanna’s eyes widened slightly, feigning surprise. “Thomas, surely you don’t think I’m the one you’re looking
for?”
She shook her head with a soft laugh.
“It’s true I once lost an earring, but I don’t remember where. By the time I noticed, it had been gone for quite
some time.
“As for First Love… during that period, the piece was immensely popular. Victoria practiced it every day. Since I had learned violin as well, I tried my hand at it for a while too. But it was only ever a hobby, and I eventually set
it aside.”
She let a wistful look soften her features.
“Come to think of it, I haven’t touched a violin in ages.’

She hadn’t lied. She and Victoria had first met–and later become close friends-through a shared violin class.
For any well-bred heiress, mastery of music, calligraphy, chess, and painting was expected. Playing at least a

few instruments was the bare minimum.
Johanna had studied both violin and piano. Victoria had too.
Thomas lowered his eyes to the earring in his hand.
“But your earring is identical to the one I found.”
“Perhaps it’s just the same design,” she suggested smoothly.
Claiming outright that she was his savior would seem too clumsy, too contrived. A truly clever woman would
never admit it herself. Instead… she would let the man convince himself that the woman he sought stood right
before him.
When Thomas said nothing, she pressed on casually, “I remember you once mentioned you lost your memories after a car accident. How is it you recall the past so clearly now?”
Not a flicker of unease crossed his face. “Because I’ve begun to recover some of those memories.”
Johanna didn’t believe in his so-called amnesia for a second. But she didn’t expose him. That, after all, was part
of the thrill-the slow unraveling of secrets.
Still, she made a mental note: she would need to pick up the violin again. Especially First Love.
Meanwhile, Victoria led Sharon to the study. She knocked gently, and Richard’s voice answered from within.
“Come in.”
Opening the door, Victoria announced, “Dad, Sharon is here.”
At once, Richard’s face softened into a benevolent smile.
“Sharon, you’ve come. Victoria, go and see whether the kitchen has prepared the tea she likes.”
Victoria nodded obediently. “Alright, I’ll check.”
Moments later, Rick entered with a tray of tea and a plate of Sharon’s favorite fruits. Setting them down, he
greeted her warmly.
“You’re here.”

Sharon gave him a polite nod.
“I am. But tell me, why did you invite me over today? What is it you wish to discuss?”
