Chapter 451
Carter added, “Besides, we got her studio and her composition.”
The smile on Kelly’s face froze.
There was a hint of guilt in Carter’s words-guilt toward Sharon.
And once he began to feel indebted to Sharon, the balance in his heart would inevitably tip in Sharon’s favor. Carter wasn’t completely unaware that what he was doing was wrong. He knew. And yet, he did it anyway. With Kelly’s final concert having failed to launch, everything else had to make way for her.
If Carter ever found out her illness was a lie…everything she currently possessed would be stripped away.
No. She couldn’t allow that to happen.
At that thought, a cold glint flashed through Kelly’s eyes.

A few days later, Sharon received a call from Kelly.
“Sharon, I spoke with Maestro Warner about helping arrange a performance for you. But… he doesn’t have the best impression of you, so he refused.”
She paused for a beat before continuing.
“Still, since I already promised you, I’ll see it through. I’ve asked Carter and Nate for help, and they’ve agreed to sponsor a concert. Would you be interested?”
Sharon didn’t hesitate. “Sure, I’d love to.”
Kelly’s voice paused briefly. “Great. We’re doing a promotional shoot tomorrow. If you’re interested, feel free to stop by.”
“Alright. Please send me the address, Kelly.”
After hanging up, a chill settled in Kelly’s eyes. She had already made things perfectly clear, and yet Sharon still insisted on staying close to her.
Clearly, it wasn’t about the performance. It was about Carter.
Lately, she and Nate had been humiliated by Sharon more than once.
And though Carter had always stepped in on her behalf, it was clear he was beginning to show favoritism toward Sharon.
Otherwise, given that Sharon had once stabbed him, how could she possibly still be standing before them, unscathed?
A knock came at the door. Nate walked in, scowling.
“Kelly, those so-called upperclassmen of yours are impossible to deal with. I even mentioned you’re Maestro Warner’s protégé, but they still acted all high and mighty!
“Honestly, forget about bringing them in as special guests-just call on other students of Maestro Warner. They’re way more famous anyway.”
Kelly snapped back to her senses. “Maestro Warner’s students are indeed among the top in the industry, but the music world doesn’t revolve around just his students.
“Bell University’s Hall of Fame features several alumni whose achievements surpass even those of Warner’s protégés. If I can
1/2
invite them as guest performers, my concert will be truly perfect.”
Nate frowned. “But no matter what terms I offered, they all said they were unavailable. Honestly, those foreign women are harder to deal with than Maestro Warner himself.”
Kelly thought for a moment, then said, “Maybe they think we’re not sincere enough. Here’s what you can do: track their whereabouts for me. If I have to, I’ll fly to Marcentine myself.”
If she could win over Maestro Warner, she refused to believe she couldn’t win over her upperclassmen from Bell University.
Meanwhile, at Amstern City Airport, three young and beautiful women rushed forward and threw their arms around Sharon.
“Sharon! We missed you so much!”
Chapter 452
The stunning appearance of the four women caused quite a stir at the airport.
Many passersby mistook the four for celebrities and pulled out their phones to snap photos.
Aside from Sharon, the other three were completely unfazed. They had long grown accustomed to this kind of attention.
Walking beside Sharon, Carol Fraser asked, “Sharon, have you finally come around? Ready to pick your career back up?”
Sharon gave a gentle nod. “I’m sorry I haven’t kept in touch all these years, and now I’m suddenly reaching out to ask for your help.”
These three women were not only Sharon’s university classmates, they were also members of Bell University’s Hall of Fame. Each of them had become a leading figure in her respective field of music.
Two of them had even turned down invitations from Maestro Warner himself.
They came from prominent families, with ample support and resources. There was never a real need to become Warner’s student. Besides, the maestro was notoriously strict, and they were too free-spirited to be bound by such discipline.
While Maestro Warner was a musical genius, he didn’t excel at every instrument. Though the four women had frequently performed together during their university days and shared a close bond, each specialized in a different area of music.
The youngest and most vivacious of the group, Melanie Perkins, wrapped her arm around Sharon affectionately.
“We’re like sisters, Sharon. Why are you being so formal? But seriously, you’re ruthless. You disappeared for so long without a word!”
Genius attracts genius, and unsurprisingly, Sharon’s circle was full of them.
Back at Bell University, the four had formed a music ensemble and frequently traveled to compete and perform. Their group nearly took the music world by storm.
One of Maestro Warner’s own protégés had once been defeated by Melanie-so thoroughly, in fact, that she never recovered. Her fall from grace was swift and permanent.
Sharon lowered her voice. “I’m sorry.”
If that incident hadn’t happened, she would have likely stayed in Marcentine a while longer to pursue her career. The four of them had even made a pact: they would form a quartet.
Outside of joint concerts or competitions, they would continue studying or performing in their individual specialties. But whenever an important event came around, they would reunite as a team.
Unfortunately…
An accident changed everything for Sharon.
Carol looked at her and asked, “Sharon, what happened? You went back to Zachemaine and suddenly got married and had a child? Was it love at first sight or something?”
That period of her life had been chaotic. Her pregnancy symptoms were severe, and on top of that, she had to deal with Carter’s
mother.
The other three had either been studying abroad or tied up with performances and competitions, and over time, they fell out of
touch.
By the time their careers had stabilized, their contact with Sharon had completely ceased.
1/200
Only Ginny Blakely, who came from the most influential background, managed to find a way to reach her. The others had no clue how to track her down.
And with that, their plans to form a quartet were quietly shelved.
Sharon fell silent for a few seconds, then said, “I was invited to perform, and afterward, there was a celebration. I had a few too many drinks. I had just flown back to Amstern City and was still jet-lagged, completely out of it… and somehow, I ended up walking into the wrong room.
“The next morning, we cleared things up between us. But who could’ve guessed that one night would lead to a pregnancy?”
Melanie’s eyes widened. “Wow. That dramatic?”
Sharon smiled faintly. “Yeah.”
They chatted as they made their way out of the airport.
Outside, Wendy was already waiting behind the wheel of a car. When she saw them approach, she waved enthusiastically.

Chapter 453
“Well, well, my pretty ladies. Long time no see.”
Melanie and Wendy had always been the extroverted ones in their group, and they’d hit it off easily back in their days at Bell University. The moment Melanie spotted Wendy, her eyes lit up, and she threw her into a warm embrace.
“Wendy! I’ve missed you like crazy!”
Although it had been years since their last reunion, there wasn’t the slightest hint of awkwardness or distance between them.
The quietest among the four, Ginny, hesitated for a moment before speaking softly, “Sharon… have you heard from the Kalen family?”
Ginny came from the most prominent background among them. The Blakely and Kalen families were well-matched in influence and had been close for generations. Recently, there had been talk of a political marriage-uniting the two families by marrying Ginny to Sharon’s eldest brother, Rick.
Just a short while ago, Ginny had even met Rick a few times over dinner.
At her words, Sharon paused with one hand on the car door.
“No,” she said. “Why do you ask?”
“I heard from your brother,” Ginny replied softly, “that the Kalen family plans to bring you back soon.”
The mention of the Kalen family stirred nothing in Sharon. It was like hearing about strangers she no longer had any ties to.
“Bring me back?” Sharon raised an eyebrow. “After all these years without a word, why now?”
“Apparently, someone in the family saw your name in the news recently,” Ginny explained. “Your dad heard about the rough time you’ve had and suddenly felt a pang of guilt. He wants to bring you home.”
Sharon climbed into the car and responded coolly, “We walk different paths. There’s no point trying to force them to cross.”
Ginny understood the weight behind those words. “Sharon, you really don’t want to go back?”
Sharon said, “Whether I go back or not, does it really make any difference?”
Ginny opened her mouth to reply but stopped. The truth was, Sharon was right.
She had earned her place at Bell University entirely on her own, without any help from the Kalen family. Her tuition and living expenses were covered by scholarships and the money she made through performances.
Even without that income, Sharon had never truly lacked for money. Before she entered the Kalen household, her mother had given her a substantial sum-enough to support her studies and her life.
The Kalen family, by contrast, had offered her little in the way of meaningful support. (1)
After she returned to them, Richard was generous. She was given a monthly allowance of 100 thousand dollars, with clothes, handbags, cars, and other luxuries calculated separately.
But Sharon never touched a cent of it.
Because the very next day after receiving her first allowance, her third brother, Scott, pulled her aside and told her plainly, “Our family may be wealthy, but we don’t believe in freeloading.
Rick, Silas, and I started working long ago. None of us takes pocket money from the family anymore.
As for Victoria…”
1/2
He paused then, pride flickering in his eyes.
“Victoria is a physics prodigy. She secured multiple patents before she even came of age. In recent years, she’s been raking in prize money from competitions. She might be an heiress, but she doesn’t need a penny from our family.”
Sharon understood his meaning all too well.
“So what you’re saying,” she asked, “is that you think I came back to the Kalen family just to freeload?”
Scott replied, “Do you know why Dad hasn’t announced your identity to the public yet? It’s because everyone in our family is exceptional. We’re all leaders in our fields. You’re the only one who hasn’t met that standard yet.
“That’s why we’ve given you three years to learn the rules, master etiquette, and adjust to life in this family. If, after three years, you’ve grown into a qualified heiress, then we’ll reveal your identity to the outside world.”
Chapter 454
What Scott didn’t know at the time was that Sharon had already been accepted into Bell University under special consideration.
Still, young and proud, she held fast to her dignity. She refused the bank card Scott handed her.
Scott said, “You may only be a year younger than Victoria, but you’re not on her level. Just take the card. If it’s not enough, you can always ask us or Dad for more.
“You’re family, after all. Life out there couldn’t have been as good as it is here. If you want to buy luxury goods, jewelry, or a car, just make a list. The family will take care of everything. We don’t want people thinking we’ve been neglecting you.”
She had just reunited with her family, and they were already offering her the spoils of indulgence, as if her return wasn’t to reconnect with family, but to spend money.
If she had taken that card, it would’ve only deepened their contempt.
Sharon had never known hardship growing up. A celebrated beauty and a top student, she’d always lived a life of comfort. Back home, she was the textbook definition of a wealthy, well-bred socialite.
So how could she accept being looked down on by her own flesh and blood?
She refused the card without hesitation.
Seeing this, Scott didn’t press the issue and silently took the card back.
But no one else ever found out about this, not even Richard or Rick.
A monthly allowance of 100 thousand dollars might sound impressive, but to a family of the Kalen’s stature, it was barely a drop in the bucket. No one paid much attention to it. Transfers like these were always handled by secretaries anyway.
Even when Sharon had brought shame to the family and run away, Richard, though furious and harsh in his words, never once had her card canceled. After all, she was his biological daughter. 1
That alone should’ve been enough for her to live comfortably.
To this day, Richard still believed the card was in her possession.
Ginny’s voice snapped Sharon back to the present.
“Sharon, does the Kalen family really not know which university you attended? When I last saw Rick and mentioned you had graduated from Bell University, he looked completely stunned.”
“Mhm,” Sharon replied, a trace of irony flickering in her gaze. “I studied for just a few months in high school after arriving in Marcentine before I got my acceptance letter from Bell University. All this time, they thought I was still finishing high school.
“When I got into Bell, I did consider telling them. But at the time, they were all too busy arguing about which university Victoria should attend to even pay attention to me.”
The truth was, the atmosphere in the Kalen household had been extremely tense back then. Richard and his three sons had been at odds, constantly butting heads.
The three brothers and Victoria herself, had wanted her to apply to business school. Only Richard had objected.
With tensions running high, no one had the energy to care about Sharon.
She’d barely spoken a few words to Richard before he brushed her off by saying, her allowance wasn’t enough, then had his secretary transfer more money just to shut her up.
Three months later, Victoria finally gave in. She agreed to apply to a music conservatory.

BONUS
Though it wasn’t Bell University, it was still one of the top ten music academies in the world.
The day before Victoria submitted her application, their father and eldest brother called Sharon in for a private conversation.
“Jenna,” Richard said, “we’ve all agreed to allocate fifteen percent of the family’s shares to Victoria.”
He continued, “You’ve probably heard about the discussions around her university applications. I’ve been hoping she’d go to a music conservatory, but she’s reluctant. She wants to shine in a field she excels in. That difference in opinion has caused quite a bit of conflict at home.”
Chapter 455
“In the end, we decided to meet halfway. Victoria will apply to a music conservatory. And as compensation, I’ll grant her fifteen percent of the family’s shares,” Richard said.
To Sharon, his words felt like a cruel joke.
Victoria was a science prodigy, yet she hadn’t wanted to pursue a STEM degree. She had insisted on attending a business school. What did business school have to do with her so-called strengths in the sciences?
Did they think she was too ignorant to know better, simply because she hadn’t gone to university?
Rick, standing beside their father, chimed in. “Jenna, under normal circumstances, Victoria should receive ten percent of the family shares, just like Silas and Scott.
“But now that you’ve returned, there will inevitably be speculation and gossip. Some people might even dig up the past. This could damage Victoria’s reputation. So Dad and I agreed to give her an additional five percent to offset the potential fallout.”
Damage to Victoria’s reputation?
So her return was now the cause of harm to Victoria? Did that mean she should never have come back?
Seeing Sharon’s silence, Richard added, “Jenna, I’ve always treated you all the same. You can rest assured, you will have a part of the Kalen family shares as well. Three years from now, once you’ve fully adapted to life in this family, I’ll grant you ten percent, just like Silas and Scott.”
Both Silas and Scott held ten percent each.
Rick had fifteen percent. As the eldest son and future heir of the Kalen Group, it made sense for him to carry a heavier burden and enjoy a greater share. No one questioned that decision.
And now, Victoria would receive fifteen percent too, just like Rick.
In that moment, Sharon finally understood why her three older brothers had never fully welcomed her back. Her return would mean less for them.
Victoria might also be taking a slice of the pie, but at least she’d grown up with them. She was family in a way that Sharon, the long-lost sister who had appeared out of nowhere, was not.
None of this, Sharon knew, had much to do with her. Richard could divide the shares however he liked it didn’t concern her.
And clearly, this wasn’t a discussion. Richard and Rick hadn’t asked for her opinion. They were merely informing her of a decision already made.
As for that ten percent promised three years down the line? That was a matter for the future.
Sharon harbored no illusions, no misplaced hope from Richard’s empty promise. After all, things that truly belong to you are never handed over by someone else.
Once she agreed, the family held a meeting the very next day to formally announce the arrangement.
Silas and Scott were visibly pleased with Sharon’s cooperation. Even Scott, who had always treated her coldly, showed rare friendliness-he actually greeted her on his own initiative.
But the longer Sharon stayed in the Kalen household, the clearer things became.
Richard held Victoria to incredibly high standards. He often reviewed her coursework himself, and if anything was subpar, he would immediately hire the best tutors to coach her.
With Sharon, his expectations were far more relaxed.

The question of which university Victoria should attend had nearly torn the family apart.
But Sharon? She was free to choose any university she pleased, as long as it made her happy.
How open-minded, how indulgent-the picture of a father who doted on his daughter.
Once, Sharon had believed that too.
But she had overlooked one thing.
A daughter who’d just returned home could never be treated the same as one who’d been raised there for twenty years.
Chapter 456
Back at the Biggs Group headquarters, Nate handed three neatly organized files to Carter.
“Carter, these are the three women Kelly wants to invite. All three come from prominent families. Over the years, they’ve made quite a name for themselves in the music industry. (1)
“Though the general public may not recognize their names, they’re highly respected within the professional circle and have even turned down invitations from Maestro Warner himself.
“By the way… this woman, Carol Fraser, is the heiress of Fraser Group. They recently started working with us. If you personally speak to Fraser Group’s CEO, I believe he’ll give you that courtesy.”
Carter glanced over the documents and gave a faint nod in acknowledgment.
Nate continued, “This one, Melanie Perkins, also comes from a wealthy family, but they’re nowhere near the Biggs Group’s level. Applying a bit of pressure on her family shouldn’t be a problem.
“The tricky one is Ginny Blakely…” He frowned. “Her background is exceptional. Rumor has it she’s about to get engaged to the Kalen Group’s eldest son, Rick Kalen. Forcing the issue probably won’t work.”
Carter’s hand paused over the file. “Rick is getting engaged?”
“Yeah,” Nate said. “He’s not getting any younger, and as the future heir of Kalen Group, it’s about time. You’re a few years younger than him, and Theo is already in preschool.”
Something seemed to click in Nate’s mind. He looked at Carter. “Come to think of it, you and Rick seem to know each other. Why not ask him for help?”
Carter’s brows drew together slightly. “There’s no confirmation yet about his engagement to Ms. Blakely. If I interfere now, it might just come off as meddling, and that won’t be well received.”
Nate considered this and nodded. “That’s true.”
Then he asked, “But how do you know Rick? His family’s been based in Marcentine for years and hasn’t had much interaction with the Biggs Group.”
In terms of corporate strength, Kalen Group far surpassed Biggs Group. Even though Carter had led Biggs Group to meteoric growth in recent years, their foundation still couldn’t compare to a century-old powerhouse like the Kalens.
This generation of the Kalen family was particularly impressive. Rick, in particular, was an exceptional leader.
What was even more rare was that the family had managed to stay free of scandal. Their structure was clear-cut, their members united, and their reputation spotless.
Carter replied calmly, “During a business trip to Marcentine, I happened to attend a concert. Victoria Kalen seemed to be getting harassed by some members of her orchestra, so I stepped in and said a few words. That defused the situation.”
Nate raised a brow. “And then Rick came to thank you?”
“Yes. After learning what happened, he specifically arranged to meet me.”
That moment had earned Carter a personal favor from the future heir of Kalen Group—a rare and valuable currency.
But over the years, nothing had come up that warranted calling in that favor, so he’d never contacted Rick again.
He knew very well that just because someone was willing to owe you once didn’t mean they were willing to be pestered endlessly afterward.
Carter was a smart man. He understood that favors should be used wisely, only when they truly matter.
1/2
Nate’s interest was piqued at the mention of Victoria.
“I’ve heard Victoria’s called this generation’s beauty icon–the ultimate socialite benchmark. Carter, is she really that gorgeous?
Carter responded evenly, “Mhm.”
Nate’s eyes lit up. “Is she prettier than Sharon?”
Even he had to admit: among all the beautiful women he’d seen, Sharon’s looks ranked near the top. After all, she had nothing else to offer-no talent, no impressive background-so how else could she have ended up as Carter’s wife?
Still, despite her beauty, Nate had never liked her. He wasn’t the type to be swayed by appearances.
In terms of talent and accomplishment, Kelly far outshined Sharon.
Carter replied nonchalantly, “Different types. Hard to compare.”
Nate was a little surprised.
Victoria was a household name among elite social circles-an icon of beauty and grace. She was said to be a prodigy in music, art, and literature. A top student, too.
2/2
Chapter 457
Victoria had that extraordinary beauty that comes once in a generation-heaven-touched, like fate itself had chosen her as its
favorite child.
Whenever Nate’s parents spoke of Victoria, they did so with a look of awe and humility, as if she belonged to a realm far above
their own.
“Whoever marries Victoria must have been a saint in their past life.”
“Honestly, someone like Victoria is out of reach for families like ours. We couldn’t even dream of her as a daughter-in-law.”
“Rumor has it some foreign King proposed to her, wanted to make her his queen. But her father turned him down flat. Makes you wonder what kind of man the Kalens are holding out for.”
“Richard would never settle for his daughter being just another wife in some royal harem. With Victoria’s pedigree, looks, and brains? She’ll land a man who’s perfect in every way, and who’ll love only her.”
In their eyes, Victoria was a goddess incarnate.
Their praise sparked Nate’s curiosity, but when he tried to look up her photos, he came up empty. Not a single picture existed
online.
Clearly, the Kalen family had gone to great lengths to shield her from the public eye-so much so that they wouldn’t even let her bear the weight of rumors.
Nate’s comparison between Sharon and Victoria was driven by simple curiosity. Just how much more beautiful could Victoria be?
To his surprise, Carter had implied they were equally stunning.
How was that possible?
Victoria had grown up with a silver spoon in her mouth. That aristocratic elegance alone could leave Sharon in the dust.
Nate looked incredulous. “Carter, aren’t you giving Sharon too much credit? How could she possibly compare to someone like Victoria?”
Carter turned to him. “Is Sharon that lacking?”
Nate opened his mouth, ready to bring up Sharon’s lack of education and her reputation as an airhead. But when he met Carter’s eyes, the words caught in his throat.
After all, Sharon was Carter’s ex-wife and Theo’s biological mother, Badmouthing her in front of him was tantamount to slapping both father and son in the face.
Besides… just on looks alone, Sharon really could fool a lot of people.
The first time Carter brought her to meet everyone, Nate had actually assumed she was some high-born heiress.
Changing the subject, Nate asked, “So, what do we do about these three women?”
Carter flipped through the documents. “I’ll call the heads of the first two families myself. As for Ginny… I’ll bring Kelly to meet her in person. If she refuses, we’ll drop it. She’s not irreplaceable.”
Nate had an idea. “Doesn’t Rick owe you a favor? Even if he and Ginny aren’t engaged, couldn’t he say a few words on your behalf? I heard the Blakely and Kalen families are old family friends. With Rick’s status, the Blakely family would definitely
listen to him…”
The more Nate spoke, the softer his voice became.
1/2
Even he realized it would be wasteful to cash in Rick’s favor on something so trivial.
The next day, Ginny was touring Sharon’s studio when she suddenly received a call from her older brother.
“Ginny, are you in Amstern City right now?”
“Yes, why?”
“A friend reached out to me. He wants to invite you to be a guest performer at a concert… Never mind, it’s too much to explain over the phone. Just go meet him. If you don’t want to do it, I won’t pressure you; you can just decline directly.”
Ginny had encountered countless invitations like this, so she wasn’t surprised.
“Alright, I’ll meet him.”
Not long after she hung up, her brother sent her the address.
Ginny had a notoriously poor sense of direction. Even with a map, she couldn’t quite figure out the layout.
Seeing her confusion, Sharon chuckled. “I know where this is. I’m free anyway. Want me to take you there?”
Ginny nodded.
The two left the studio and headed to the agreed-upon location.
At the door of the private room, they knocked. Then, pushing the door open, they stepped inside.
Chapter 458
Upon seeing Carter and Kelly seated in the private room, Sharon’s expression froze.
Behind her, Ginny noticed Sharon standing motionless at the door and asked curiously, “Sharon, what’s wrong?”
Snapping back to her senses, Sharon replied calmly, “Nothing.”
With that, she stepped into the room.
Kelly’s expression shifted in surprise the moment she saw Sharon.
“Sharon? Why are you here?”
She was certain the person she invited wasn’t Sharon, but Ginny, an upperclassman from Bell University.
Ginny was a renowned pianist and one of the stars of Bell University’s Hall of Fame. A native of Zachemaine, she was known for both her talent and her grace. Since they were alumni from the same school, it had been easy to strike up a connection.
Of course, under normal circumstances, without Carter’s help, she wouldn’t have stood a chance of inviting a pianist of Ginny’s stature, alumni or not.
Ginny stepped into the room behind Sharon, her smile gentle and polite. “Hello, I’m Ginny Blakely. This is my good friend, Sharon. If you don’t mind me asking, do you know each other?”
At the words “good friend,” Kelly’s eyes widened in disbelief.
How could someone like Sharon possibly be close to someone of Ginny’s level?
Carter clearly hadn’t expected this either. He hadn’t imagined Sharon would know Ginny at all. Given the kind of social circles Ginny moved in, how had Sharon-someone from such a different world-formed this kind of connection?
He replied, “She’s the mother of my child.”
Even with all her composure, Ginny couldn’t hide her shock. “You’re Sharon’s ex-husband?”
Over the past few days, she had heard the full story of Sharon’s divorce from Wendy. The idea that someone as outstanding as Sharon could be cast aside by both her husband and in-laws, just because of a so-called “first love” had left her furious.
So this other woman in the private room must be Carter’s first love?
Ginny’s gaze landed on Kelly, briefly assessing her. Her expression gradually returned to calm, and a polite, distant smile appeared on her face.
Kelly suddenly felt a faint flutter of unease. Her eyelids twitched, and a vague sense of foreboding crept in.
After Sharon and Ginny sat down, Ginny turned to Carter and asked, “So, Mr. Biggs, may I ask what this meeting is about?”
Carter glanced briefly at Sharon before answering, “In three months, Kelly will be holding a concert. I heard you’re both from the same university, so I’d like to invite you as a special guest performer.”
Ginny responded with a composed smile, her voice measured and courteous. “I’m sorry, but I’m afraid I won’t be available.”
Carter countered, “But from what I understand, you don’t have any performances or competitions scheduled during that time.”
Ginny didn’t deny it. She nodded. “That’s true. I’ve cleared that part of my schedule for something important.”
She had, in fact, canceled all her events the moment she heard Sharon might need her help, without a second thought. To her, a true friend was far more important than any concert or competition.
Melanie and Carol felt the same.
1/2
By this point, her meaning couldn’t have been clearer.
But Kelly suddenly spoke up.
“Ms. Blakely, is your refusal to be my guest performer… because of Sharon?”
Ginny’s gaze flickered.
The people she usually dealt with-wealthy heiresses and refined socialites-might clash from time to time, but even then, they always left each other some dignity.

Chapter 459
The way Ginny saw it, Kelly had no sense of decorum.
Yet Ginny’s smile didn’t waver. Her tone remained gentle and polite.
“I’m sorry, but that’s a personal matter. I don’t owe you an explanation.”
Kelly froze for a beat.
Ginny’s demeanor remained gracious, but her words carried a quiet edge.
“And besides, Ms. Walt, making malicious assumptions about others is quite rude.”
A flicker of embarrassment crossed Kelly’s face.
The moment she saw Sharon, she had more or less guessed that Ginny would turn her down.
Just then, Carter’s voice broke the silence.
“Ms. Blakely, Kelly has a terminal illness. This may be her last concert. I hope, for the sake of your shared history as alumni, you’d consider doing her this favor.”
He paused briefly. His voice carried a rare, genuine sincerity.
“If you’re willing to help, I’ll owe you a personal favor. Or, if you have any conditions, you may name them.”
Ginny offered a faint, flawless smile.
“I do sympathize with Ms. Walt’s situation. But I’m very sorry. I’ve already promised to help a friend and I intend to keep my word. After all, keeping one’s word is the foundation of integrity.” 1
She turned to both of them, her smile unfaltering.
“I’m truly sorry, Mr. Biggs and Ms. Walt. You’ll have to find someone else.”
With that single statement, Ginny effortlessly shut down every argument Carter had prepared.
She wasn’t just anyone. She was the heiress of the Blakely family. If she were to go back on her word and the matter spread, it could damage not only her reputation but that of her entire family. And no one here could afford to bear that responsibility.
Kelly clenched her fists beneath the table, hatred for Sharon surging in her chest.
If not for Sharon’s meddling, with Carter’s influence, Ginny might very well have agreed. And through the concert, Kelly could have built a relationship with Ginny, maybe even become friends. It could’ve opened the door for her to the upper echelons of
society.
Now, it was all gone.
With the matter settled, Carter couldn’t press further. He would have to find another way.
Instead, he said, “It’s almost lunchtime. Ms. Blakely, would you care to stay for a meal before leaving?”
It was just a courteous offer. He didn’t actually expect Ginny to accept. After all, she had just turned them down. Surely, she wouldn’t want to linger.
To his surprise, Ginny broke into a smile and said, “I’ll take you up on that, Mr. Biggs.”
After all, it was just a meal, not nearly enough to create a sense of obligation.
Carter called for a server.
1/2
Ginny picked up the menu and turned to Sharon, who sat beside her, “Sharon, which dishes are good here? Help me choose something”
Sharon glanced through the menu and recommended a few items.
Ginny picked two of the ones she mentioned. Then she asked, “Sharon, your taste hasn’t changed over the years, has it? You still like spicy food?”
Sharon nodd
“Great. Then we’ll go with these two,” Ginny said.
She then added two fruit juices-Sharon’s favorites-to the order.
Carter’s dark eyes flickered with something unreadable. He had doubted, at first, that Ginny and Sharon were truly friends. Their worlds were simply too far apart.
But now, it was clear that Ginny not only knew Sharon’s preferences, but also spoke and acted with the kind of ease and familiarity that couldn’t be faked. Their interactions were filled with the kind of unspoken understanding that only came from real closeness.
They… might truly be very good friends.
After Ginny and Sharon finished ordering, Carter suddenly asked, “Ms. Blakely, may I ask, how did you and Sharon meet?”

Ginny replied, “Sharon and I attended the same university.”
“University?” Carter’s brows rose in astonishment. “You two… attended the same university?”
Ginny already knew from Wendy that Sharon’s ex-husband and his circle had always looked down on Sharon. They constantly mocked her supposed poor education at every turn.
She raised a brow. “What’s wrong? Is that a problem?”
For some reason, Kelly seemed unusually unable to hold her composure today. She blurted out, “I heard Sharon only has a junior high education. How could she possibly have attended the same university as you? Ms. Blakely, could you be mistaken?”
Ginny gave Kelly a puzzled glance. “Wouldn’t I know whether Sharon and I attended the same university? Ms. Walt, what exactly do you think I’m mistaken about?” (1
Kelly’s voice caught in her throat. She couldn’t reply.
Carter asked, “Ms. Blakely, which university did you both attend?”
Ginny’s voice was calm and clear. “Since you invited me as a guest performer, I assumed you’d at least done some research on me… But apparently, you’re only interested in my status and reputation.”
Kelly’s expression darkened at the implied criticism.
Ginny continued, “Sharon and I attended Bell University.”
She glanced briefly at Kelly. “We’re both members of the Hall of Fame. That’s where we met.”
“The Hall of Fame?” Kelly’s expression changed dramatically, her voice rising in disbelief. “That’s impossible! How could she possibly be a member of the Hall of Fame?!”
Still smiling gently, Ginny replied, “Why would it be impossible?”
Kelly’s voice turned shrill. “But I studied at Bell University too! I’ve never heard Sharon’s name. In fact, I’d never even seen her
face there!”
Ginny smiled. “Ms. Walt, how many Hall of Fame members have you actually met?”
Kelly’s stunned expression froze.
At Bell University, only about half of the Hall of Fame members allowed their photos to be displayed publicly. The other half preferred to stay anonymous for reasons ranging from privacy, personal temperament, social anxiety, or simply a desire to avoid the spotlight.
It was entirely understandable.
Artists often had quirks the average person couldn’t relate to.
Bell University was full of geniuses. Even in Kelly’s circle, many of them had eccentric personalities. She had long gotten used to
Some inductees into the Hall of Fame even refused to reveal their names, opting instead for casual pseudonyms or numerical designations.
So someone refusing to show their face was hardly unusual.
Still unwilling to back down, Kelly pressed on. “Ms. Blakely, words alone aren’t proof.” (1

Members of the Hall of Fame had badges engraved with their names and photos. If Sharon had one, wouldn’t she have flaunted it already? Why wait until now?
Ginny gave a silent, almost amused smile. “Ms. Walt, do you really think I would lie?”
When Sharon attended Bell University, she went by the name Jenna, and never revealed her face. Even if she produced her badge now, neither Kelly nor Carter would believe her.

Chapter 461
Even if Sharon were to present official identification under the name Jenna, Carter and Kelly could still easily dismiss it as fake.
As the eldest daughter of the Blakely family, Ginny had publicly acknowledged Sharon’s identity. Yet these two refused to believe her. They clung to their skepticism, grasping for any excuse to discredit Sharon. No wonder Sharon couldn’t be bothered to explain herself.
Kelly met Ginny’s gaze head-on. “You said it yourself, you’re friends with Sharon. It’s not unreasonable to assume you’re just trying to boost your friend’s reputation, right?”
Ginny, however, turned her eyes to Carter. “And you, Mr. Biggs? You don’t believe me either?”
Carter remained silent. His expression showed he shared the same doubt.
Ginny knew there was no point arguing further. “If you don’t believe me, then so be it.”
The rest of the meal passed in silence. The four of them ate quietly, barely exchanging a word.
When they’d nearly finished, Sharon started to rise to take her leave, only to be stopped by Carter’s voice.
“Ms. Blakely, may I ask what could possibly be so important that you can’t spare even a single day?”
He still hadn’t given up on persuading Ginny to appear as a special guest at Kelly’s concert.
Ginny was about to offer another vague response, keeping him at arm’s length, when Sharon, who had said little throughout the meal, suddenly spoke.
“Because she’s the guest performer at my concert. She won’t have time for Kelly’s.”
Ginny hadn’t mentioned it before, not out of fear of Carter, but because she didn’t want them blaming Sharon for her refusal.
She had grown up in a wealthy family and had seen too much of this sort of thing. Even if she turned them down, the resentment would ultimately land on Sharon.
It was simple: they didn’t dare take their frustration out on her, so they would redirect it toward Sharon.
Sharon knew this perfectly well. But she had already burned her bridges with Carter and the others. A little more conflict meant nothing to her now.
Carter’s brows furrowed slightly.
He had known that Sharon was also planning a concert, around the same time as Kelly’s. But it wasn’t as if she’d deliberately chosen the same date. After all, that period was considered the best time of the year to host such events.
After a moment of silence, he said, “Ms. Blakely, it’s not guaranteed that Sharon’s and Kelly’s concerts will fall on the exact same day. There shouldn’t be any scheduling conflict. If you’re willing, we’re more than happy to accommodate your availability.
41
At that, Sharon let out a cold laugh in her mind. ‘How convenient, wanting it both ways.’
He might not have been so brazen as to snatch Ginny from Sharon’s concert outright, but this underhanded tactic was no less disgusting.
Ginny shook her head. “Mr. Biggs, organizing a concert isn’t as simple as you make it out to be. Before the performance, I need to rehearse and coordinate with Sharon’s team. My schedule is completely full.”
Carter wasn’t foolish. He knew a guest performer didn’t need to be on stage the entire time. With careful planning, it was possible to appear at both concerts.

So he didn’t press Ginny any further. Instead, he turned to Sharon.
No matter how they had become friends, Ginny’s stance today was clear: between them and Sharon, she had chosen Sharon.
Which meant, to win Ginny over, he would first need to convince Sharon.
“Sharon,” he said, voice low and no longer as forceful as before. “Since Ms. Blakely is your friend, naturally she prioritizes your concert. But for Kelly’s event, she would only need to appear briefly, for a single piece. It wouldn’t take up much of her time.”

Chapter 462
Under normal circumstances, Sharon wouldn’t make decisions on Ginny’s behalf.
But they had known each other for years and understood one another deeply. The fact that Ginny hadn’t spoken meant she was leaving the decision to Sharon.
Back when their quartet was first formed, Ginny had always been the most composed and empathetic among them. If Sharon asked, Ginny would likely agree to help Kelly out of respect for her.
Ginny didn’t want Sharon to offend Carter or Kelly over this, risking retaliation. Still, if Sharon genuinely disliked Kelly and refused to speak on her behalf, Ginny would never offer her help either.
The choice was Sharon’s to make.
Sharon frowned, and she didn’t bother being polite.
“Do you two just enjoy stealing from me? First you stole my mother’s belongings, then my opportunity to meet Maestro Warner, and then my studio. And now, you want to steal my guest performer, too?
“What’s next? Kelly, do you fancy everything I touch? Are you so spiritually in sync with me that you must claim whatever I value?”
Kelly interjected, “Sharon, you’ve misunderstood. I didn’t know Ms. Blakely was your guest performer. I just wanted to invite a fellow alumna to lend her support.”
Sharon shot her a glance. “Well, now that you do know, why are you still trying to poach her?”
Kelly lowered her gaze, veiling whatever flickered in her eyes.
“Sharon, I’m not trying to steal her. As Carter said, you come first. We only hoped she might help out if she had the time.”
Sharon sneered, “I asked Ginny because she’s my friend. And you-what gives you the right to ask her for anything? Is it because you’re rich and powerful? Do you think she lacks those things?
“Or is it because you think she owes you something? How much do you think your favor is worth to her? Does she even need it? Or perhaps-”
She turned to Carter. “You’re just shameless enough?”
A flicker of emotion passed through Carter’s eyes, but he said nothing.
Kelly was stung by the open challenge in Sharon’s gaze.
Why should a woman like Ginny-cultured, refined, born into wealth-choose to be friends with Sharon instead of her?
She couldn’t hold back. “Sharon, I know you dislike me. I-”
She had barely begun when Sharon slammed her palm on the table with a sharp bang, cutting Kelly off.
She looked at Kelly coldly, no longer bothering with politeness.
“Since you know I can’t stand you, you should have enough self-awareness to keep your distance. I’m not a man. You can stop playing your little pity act.”
Kelly hadn’t expected Sharon to tear off the facade so abruptly, not giving her even a shred of dignity.
Such behavior was not what one would expect from a “cultured” woman.
Instinctively, she looked to Ginny, hoping to find signs of disapproval on her face.
1/2
But instead of disdain, there was a deepening smile in Ginny’s eyes-a look of quiet, unshakable support.
In that moment, Kelly’s heart sank.
If Ginny truly was Sharon’s friend, then with the way things currently stood between her and Sharon, she had no chance at all.
Sharon then turned to Carter. “Carter, instead of wasting time scheming against me, why don’t you go find someone else to be your guest performer? Don’t even think about taking anything else from me. This time, I won’t back down.” T
With that, she exchanged a look with Ginny, and the two of them left together.

Chapter 463
After Sharon and Ginny left, Kelly said softly, “Carter, Sharon refused… What should we do now?”
Carter remained silent for a few seconds before replying, “Invite someone else.”
Kelly instinctively bit her lip. She was reluctant. “But…”
Carter turned to look at her. “Unless you can persuade Ginny, or convince Sharon to give up, you don’t have other choices.”
Sharon’s dislike for Kelly had never been a secret. And Ginny wasn’t someone ordinary-getting her to compromise was nearly impossible.
As for Sharon…
A dull ache tugged at Carter’s lower abdomen. 1
Her tolerance for him had already reached its limit. If he pushed her again, she just might go scorched earth. She was Theo’s mother. He didn’t want them to become mortal enemies. 1
Kelly lowered her head. “Since she’s Sharon’s friend… let’s forget it.”
After leaving the restaurant, Sharon took Ginny on a stroll around Amstern City.
Ginny had grown up in Marcentine, and although she’d visited Zachemaine before, she’d never really explored it.
Melanie and Carol, on the other hand, had both grown up in Zachemaine. Since they had an extended break, they took the opportunity to catch up with old classmates and childhood friends.
Just as Melanie reunited with one of her closest childhood friends, her father gave her a call.
“Melanie, I heard you’re on vacation in Amstern City?”
“Yes, what about it?” she replied.
“Well, a friend of mine… his girlfriend is holding a concert soon. He was hoping you could attend as a special guest.”
Melanie played the cello. Despite her young age, she had already made a name for herself in the music world.
Her father had once entertained thoughts of arranging a strategic marriage for her, but seeing her accomplishments, he had dropped the idea. Her success brought far more prestige to the family than any marriage alliance ever could.
For him to personally make the call, it meant the other party carried considerable weight.
Melanie frowned. “When is it?”
Her father gave her the date.
She rejected it on the spot. “No way. One of my best friends is holding a concert at that time too. I already promised I’d be there for her.”
Her father was puzzled, “Your best friend? I haven’t heard anything about Ginny or Carol holding a concert.”
Given the reputation Ginny and Carol had in the music scene, if they were hosting a concert, word would’ve spread fast. Even his business partners would be asking if his daughter would appear as a guest.
He had always approved of her friendship with Ginny and Carol. Especially Ginny from the Blakely family–without Melanie as a bridge, a family like theirs wouldn’t even have the right to speak to the Blakely family.
1/2
“It’s not them,” Melanie said breezily. “It’s another close friend of mine. Anyway, I’m busy now. Gotta go.”
And with that, she hung up.
Meanwhile, Carol encountered a similar situation. Only, her brother was much more blunt.
“Carol, the person who wants to invite you this time is Carter Biggs, the CEO of the Biggs Group. We just finalized a partnership with them. It wouldn’t look good to turn down his request. I don’t care what plans you’ve made during that time. Cancel all of them.”

Chapter 464
Carol frowned. “No way. One of my closest friends is holding her concert around that time. I already promised to be her guest performer.”
Her brother, Jim Fraser, was known for his domineering nature.
“It it’s Melanie, just cancel. But if it’s Ginny…” He paused, as if realizing this might be trickier than he thought.
“Go with Ginny’s schedule as your priority. But their concerts might not even fall on the same day. Just consider it a gesture. Make an appearance at Carter’s girlfriend’s concert, play one piece, and leave. That’s enough.”
Carol let out a snort. “Pass this on to Carter for me: stealing his ex-wife’s guest performer just to please his mistress-using threats, no less-doesn’t he find that disgusting?”
Jim froze. “Ex-wife? Mistress?”
She sneered, “Carter’s ex-wife is one of my best friends. She gave up her career to be a stay-at-home wife for him. Who knew that ungrateful bastard had the audacity to cheat with a mistress. They’re divorced now. She’s finally rebuilding her life, and she invited me to perform at her concert. (1)
“And now you’re asking me to turn my back on my best friend to support the woman who broke up her marriage?”
Jim didn’t speak for a long time. Even someone as pragmatic as he was couldn’t come up with a shameless excuse after hearing that.
If it had been a stranger’s request, he might’ve pushed for her to skip Sharon’s concert. But asking her to stand onstage for the woman who helped destroy her friend’s marriage?
No matter how overbearing Jim could be, this wasn’t something he could demand without crossing a line.
Besides, Carol and Ginny were very close. The Fraser family had benefited immensely from that connection over the years. There was no need to risk angering Carol over something like this.
His tone softened. “Carol, this whole thing puts me in a tough spot. Why don’t you… talk to Ginny? If she steps in, I doubt Carter
would press us any further.”
Everyone in Carol’s family was driven by profit. When Carol had insisted on studying music, no one had supported her. They
called her rebellious and cut off her finances.
The only one who had helped her, quietly, behind the scenes was Jim.
That was why she’d said so much to him now.
And now that Jim was running the Fraser Group, Carol couldn’t bring herself to make things any harder for him than necessary.
She sighed. “All right. I’ll ask Ginny.”
At Sharon’s studio, the group had gathered.
As soon as they sat down, they brought up the situation-Carter’s attempt to recruit them as guest performers.
When the story was laid bare, they exchanged looks.
Melanie was the first to speak. “Sharon, you’re like a really wooly sheep. Your ex-husband’s been milking you dry. He’s practically ripped all the wool off your back.” 1
Carol muttered, “How is the world this small? Of all people, that mistress had to find us? And of course, she’s not on good terms

with Sharon.”
Ginny said, “It’s not that surprising. She values our names, our backgrounds, and we attended the same university. Besides…”
Wendy asked, “Besides what?”
Ginny glanced at them. “If Sharon weren’t involved, would either of you have said no?”
Silence.
Melanie and Carol couldn’t answer.
They’d grown up in wealthy families. Their lives had always been gilded, and with that came certain responsibilities.
If Sharon hadn’t been in the picture, they probably wouldn’t have refused.
All three turned to look at Sharon. “Sharon, what do you want to do?”
Sharon didn’t pretend to be aloof or noble. These were friends she had known for years.
“I’ve already burned that bridge with them,” she said. “There’s no way I’m letting them take anything else from me.”

Chapter 465
But there was no denying the pressure they faced from their families.
Sharon was technically a Kalen heiress, but she hadn’t grown up in the Kalen family household. She’d never spent a cent of their money, and because of that, they couldn’t shamelessly expect her to fulfill some so-called “family duty.”
Melanie grinned. “Sharon, that’s exactly what I was waiting to hear! Thank God you didn’t hesitate or start worrying about every little thing. If you had, I might’ve thought you were a lost cause.”
Carol nodded in agreement. “We’re just dealing with a scumbag and a homewrecker. It’s nothing we can’t handle.”
As they spoke, they all turned toward Ginny.
Ginny’s smile remained impeccably composed, but her eyes were sharp.
“So Kelly thinks that just because she has a man backing her, she can bully Sharon without consequence? That because Sharon stands alone, she’s an easy target? Well, she’s not alone. She’s got us, and no one gets to push her around like that.”
Melanie gave a fierce nod. “Damn right. Time to give those two the wake-up call they deserve.”
That very night, Ginny, Carol, and Melanie each posted on X, announcing they would be special guest performers at Sharon’s upcoming concert.
None of them were influencers or celebrities. Their posts didn’t trend or catch fire among the general public. But in the upper echelons of society, the news spread like wildfire.
Ginny might have only tens of thousands of followers, but a significant portion of them were heiresses and trust fund heirs- people who mattered in the circles that mattered.
Even Victoria followed her.
In their world, Ginny was on par with her, both in status and influence.
As a true heiress of an elite family, Ginny rarely updated her X. She never promoted her own concerts. She had beauty, talent, and more than enough money. She didn’t need to chase clout.
It had been two or three years since her last post.
So the moment she published the announcement, the comments poured in by the thousands.
Victoria sat by her window, sipping coffee, when she saw Ginny’s name appear on her feed. Her fingers moved instinctively and gave it a like.
Ginny might one day become her sister-in-law. Maintaining good relations was only smart; no need to make life harder for her older brother.
But then, she saw another name.
Sharon McKinzie.
Her finger paused.
“Sharon?”
She stared at the screen for a moment, then chuckled, brushing off the thought. “Probably just someone with the same name.”
If Sharon really had a powerful friend like Ginny, would she have ended up on the news over her divorce? She was probably

doing it for attention, trying to catch her father’s or brothers’ eyes after living such a pitiful life.
At the Biggs residence, Madeline held the invitation she’d just received from the Malcolm family excitedly.
She said to Denise, “The Malcolms have invited us to a concert at the end of the month. I hear they’ve invited all the top-tier families, like the Blakely, Kalen, Westin, Walton, and even the Ferrero family.
“I heard the Kalen family’s three heirs are still single. You should really put in some effort at the party. If one of them takes a liking to you, your future will be set.
“They’re all said to be incredibly handsome and charming. Aren’t you into looks? Just pick one and win him over.”
Denise was scrolling through her phone and barely looked up as she scoffed, “The Kalen family? You think I could actually land one of them? Isn’t the current head of the Kalen family, Richard, single right now? If it’s so easy, why don’t you try and bag him?
Madeline’s expression darkened. “Watch your mouth!”
Denise shrank back slightly, but didn’t reply.
Then, suddenly, her eyes widened.
She screamed, “What?”
2/2
Chapter 466
Madeline frowned. “What are you yelling for? That’s no way for a proper young lady to behave.”
Denise was unfazed. Her face lit up with excitement as she shoved her phone toward Madeline. “Mom, it’s Ginny Blakely! She’s coming to Amstern City to perform at a concert as a special guest!”
“Ginny Blakely?” Madeline’s brows lifted slightly. “You mean the Blakely family’s eldest daughter?”
Denise nodded enthusiastically. “Yes! She’s not just some privileged heiress; she’s legit brilliant. People even compare her to Victoria Kalen, the number one socialite. She’s my idol. No way I’m missing her performance.”
Madeline nodded thoughtfully. “An heiress like her is worth getting close to. If you manage to catch her eye and become her friend, the Biggs family could benefit tremendously.”
Denise sighed with admiration. “I heard she’s performing to support a close friend. And her two besties-Carol and Melanie- they’re both incredible too. Total legends at Bell University’s Hall of Fame… I guess it’s true what they say. Outstanding people always surround themselves with other standouts. Forget being friends with Ginny, I’d be thrilled just to get her autograph. It’d be enough to make anyone jealous.”
She paused for a second.
“But… it’s not Carol or Melanie’s concert this time. It’s another friend of hers. Let me check who…”
She tapped into the event link from Ginny’s post, then froze. Her eyes widened.
“Sharon McKinzie’s concert? Wait-our Sharon?”
At the mention of that name, Madeline instinctively frowned. “That troublesome girl again?”
She’d never liked Sharon. Recently, Sharon had dared to talk back and challenge her at every turn, testing Madeline’s patience
to its limit.
Denise rubbed her eyes, as if to make sure she wasn’t seeing things. “She’s really the one hosting the concert… Is this even real?
“1
Madeline scoffed. “It must be someone with the same name. Sharon barely finished school. There’s no way she knows someone
like Ginny.”
Denise nodded slowly. “Yeah, that does make more sense. Still…”
She hesitated, brows pulling together. “It’s a violin concert. And Sharon does play the violin. Isn’t that… a bit too much of a coincidence?”
Madeline’s tone turned sharp. “Lots of people play the violin. Who does Sharon think she is? The time she won first place at that kindergarten talent show, I’m sure it was Xavier who helped her cheat-probably used a pre-recorded track. She could never
win on her own.
“With her education and skill? Hosting a concert? And getting someone like Ginny to appear as a guest performer? Do you really believe that?”
Denise fell silent. It did seem far-fetched. Hosting a concert was one thing-Sharon had Xavier backing her, and John, who also played the violin, might’ve offered help.
But convincing Ginny and her friends to attend as special guests? That felt almost impossible.
Maybe it really was just someone with the same name,
1/2
At the Biggs Group headquarters, Nate looked as if he’d just heard something completely absurd.
“You’re telling me all three of them turned Kelly down? Are they out of their minds? They’d dare to offend you, Carter?”
Kelly’s expression wasn’t any better. She turned toward Carter, who stood silently by the window, and took a deep breath.” Carter… are they all going to Sharon’s concert instead?”
Before Carter could respond, Nate shouted, “Sharon? That nobody? Impossible! No way she has that kind of pull!”
Kelly ignored him. Her eyes stayed fixed on Carter.
“I heard Carol and Melanie are close friends with Ginny. If she asked them to go, they wouldn’t say no.”
Chapter 467
Nate still didn’t understand what was going on. “Ginny? You mean the Blakely family’s eldest daughter? There’s no way she knows Sharon. Kelly, you must be mistaken.”
Kelly replied, “If Sharon hadn’t shown up with Ginny to meet me and Carter, I wouldn’t have believed it either. But it’s true. They know each other.”
The certainty in her tone left Nate no room to argue. He shook his head, struggling to make sense of it. “If Ginny would go that far to help Sharon, do you think maybe Sharon has something on her?” 11
Kelly secretly cursed Nate for his stupidity. “You think someone like Sharon could threaten Ginny Blakely?”
Nate scratched his head. Yeah, that was a stretch.
Then a thought lit up in his eyes. “What if Sharon saved Ginny’s life once, and maybe she’s repaying that?”
Kelly’s gaze flickered slightly.
That, at least, sounded plausible.
She would rather believe Sharon had saved Ginny’s life than accept the idea that Sharon could be on Ginny’s level-that she might actually belong to the same prestigious circle.
She turned her eyes sadly to Carter, who had remained quiet this whole time. 1
“Carter, it’s one thing if we can’t get Ginny to accept the invitation. But now the other two have turned us down as well…
“It’s not just that they won’t help me, Ginny is already promoting Sharon’s concert. With her influence, who would still come to mine?”
Nate’s face darkened with anger. “That Sharon! What a snake! It’s bad enough she scheduled her concert for the same time, but now she’s stolen your guest performers too? She’s doing this on purpose. She doesn’t want you to succeed!”
He turned to Carter, his voice rising. “Carter, why are we still playing nice with her? Go talk to Rick and use that favor he owes you! I refuse to believe Ginny would turn down the Kalen family. She wouldn’t dare disrespect her own fiancé.”
Kelly’s eyes shimmered slightly at the mention of Rick.
She had heard about the favor Rick owed Carter.
Before now, she hadn’t intended to use it. She’d been saving it for after she married Carter. She was hoping to use that connection to get closer to Victoria, the Kalen family’s heiress.
But now? Now, Sharon had publicly outshone her.
That, she couldn’t tolerate.
If burning that favor meant pulling Sharon down a peg, it was worth it.
Her eyes drifted toward Carter. She knew if she wanted him to use it, she’d have to light the match herself.
The next day, Sharon received a call from Kelly.
“Sharon, about the performance I mentioned earlier, the rehearsal is scheduled for tonight. Are you coming?”
Sharon had been so immersed in planning the upcoming concert with Ginny and the others that she’d nearly forgotten all about
1/2

But Kelly’s reminder brought it back in a rush.
The concert was still more than three months away. She couldn’t just coast until then.
Unlike Ginny and the others-or even John-she was starting from scratch.
Getting the three of them involved had taken all the social capital she had to offer. But goodwill doesn’t last forever. She’d have to prove herself.
With that thought in mind, she gave her answer without hesitation.
“Of course.”
Chapter 468
A free opportunity is still an opportunity. There was no reason not to take it.
After exchanging a few words with her friends and giving Wendy some quick instructions, Sharon headed to the performance
venue.
Once there, it didn’t take long for her to realize what kind of event this really was.
The entire performance had been put together for Kelly. Sponsored exclusively by the Biggs and Hendricks families, the stage was Kelly’s alone. Everyone else was just there to make her shine brighter.
Sharon had seen this coming. When someone else foots the bill, the spotlight doesn’t land by accident.
She was just about to find Kelly when someone in the crowd shouted, “Kelly is hurt!”
Chaos erupted in the rehearsal hall.
Sharon quickly asked what had happened. Apparently, during the curtain call rehearsal, a female pianist had accidentally stepped on the long train of Kelly’s skirt. Kelly had fallen and scraped her knee.
Nate glared at the stunned pianist, his voice sharp and accusing. “You did that on purpose, didn’t you? You kept messing up during rehearsal this morning too, making Kelly go over things again and again. You knew she wasn’t feeling well, and you targeted her on purpose!”
The pianist looked shocked. “But Kelly was clearly off today. It had nothing to do with me. She’s the one who said she wanted it perfect and asked to redo it…”
Nate wasn’t interested in hearing it. “Just because Kelly’s professional doesn’t mean you get to take advantage of her!”
“I wasn’t! I swear, I wasn’t trying to target her. Why would I? I have no reason to-”
Nate let out a cold laugh. “No reason? Everyone here knows the moment Carter walks in, you rush over to him like a moth to a flame. Throwing yourself at someone else’s man right in front of his fiancée is just downright shameless.”
At that moment, a calm voice cut through the noise. “What’s going on here?”
Nate turned, and the moment he saw Carter, his whole demeanor sharpened, like a dog finally seeing its master. He quickly launched into a dramatic retelling, painting the pianist as someone who had nearly sabotaged the entire show on purpose.
“Carter, just look. Kelly’s leg is still bruised!”
“I’m fine…” Kelly’s face was a little pale. “Rita didn’t mean to…”
Nate looked at her injury, his expression tight with concern. “Kelly, you’re too kind. Anyone can see she did it on purpose. With that much space, how could she step right on your skirt unless she meant to?”
Carter simply walked over, scooped Kelly into his arms, and gave a quiet order, “Replace the pianist.”
The woman’s eyes widened, stunned. She looked like she might cry.
“Mr. Biggs, please… I didn’t do it on purpose. Just give me one more chance.”
His voice was low and cold. “Move. Don’t make me say it again.”
Someone stepped in and quickly pulled the pianist aside, clearing a path.
After Carter left, the same person leaned toward Rita Meier and said in a hushed voice, “They’re just replacing you, that’s all. You can still audition for other shows. But if you piss off Mr. Biggs, you might never work in this industry again.”

The pianist broke down, crying hard. “I spent four months competing for this. Four months. And I earned my spot… I never targeted Kelly. Who here would even dare?”
The other person sighed. “You’re right. You didn’t target her. But remember that time you handed Mr. Biggs a bottle of water? That probably didn’t sit well with someone.”
The pianist wiped her tears. “It was just courtesy… and I gave Kelly a bottle too. I wasn’t flirting. I wouldn’t.”
“I believe you. But it’s not about what you meant. Someone didn’t like it. Just bad luck, I guess.”
The performance hadn’t even begun, and already the carefully selected, highly vetted pianist had been cut. The rehearsal hall buzzed with whispers and unease.
Chapter 469
Sharon glanced at the pianist, whose eyes were red and brimming with tears. She then shifted her gaze to the direction Carter had left. A cold, mocking smile tugged at her lips.
All it took was one baseless accusation, and just like that, the pianist was out, her hard work dismissed like it meant nothing.
Such a precise move. Classic fearmongering. Ruthless and effective.
If that pianist was the chicken in this “warn-the-monkey” act, then she… She was the monkey.
Not long after, Sharon received a call from Nate. He asked her to come by and go over performance details.
The venue had been rented at great expense by Carter for Kelly.
Every inch of it whispered extravagance, needing no embellishment. Even the surrounding landscape was picturesque-a natural lake stretched out in the rear garden, its waters still and clear, while floral scents drifted lightly through the breeze.
Sharon arrived in the garden and spotted Kelly standing on a small bridge with Carter. The two of them were quietly admiring the view. Kelly pointed at something in the distance, speaking now and then.
Nate was the first to notice Sharon. He sneered, “Well, well. Sharon finally decided to grace us with her presence. Bold enough to beg for a chance to perform, yet can’t even be bothered to show initiative. What now? Waiting for someone to roll out a red carpet for you?”
Sharon glanced at him, calm as ever. “I saw Kelly got hurt earlier. I figured the rehearsal might be off.”
Kelly turned around, smiling softly. “It’s just a little scrape on my knee, nothing serious. I can still rehearse. Carter’s just overreacting.”
Sharon understood perfectly what was hidden in those sweet, gentle words.
The message was clear: Carter cared about her.
Sharon’s gaze swept across Kelly’s leg. There was a faint bruise, but no blood. For a performer, minor injuries like that were par for the course.
And yet, Carter had dismissed a carefully chosen pianist over it. That level of indulgence was rare and unmistakable.
Still, Sharon wasn’t interested in other people’s dramas. She turned to Kelly.
“So, will I be playing a solo or a duet?”
Kelly pulled out a performance schedule she’d prepared. “You can take a look, Sharon. If there’s anything you’d like adjusted, feel free to say so.”
The lineup she handed over had clearly been crafted with care. There were both solo and ensemble pieces.
Notably, none of the duets paired Sharon with Kelly-no fake politeness, no forced collaboration. A quiet, mutual avoidance. It was fair enough.
Sharon flipped through the schedule and gave a small nod. “No objections.”
Kelly smiled again, then added, “Sharon, did you bring the sheet music you promised me?”
Sharon pulled out a stack of original compositions from her bag. “These are my pieces. Feel free to choose three. You can list Sharon McKinzie as the composer.”

Chapter 489
They had already agreed on this. No arguments there.
With Carter standing nearby, Kelly’s demeanor was nothing short of cooperative.
“Alright.”
The two of them moved on to discuss the pieces.
Kelly casually tossed out a few highly technical questions, clearly hoping to trip Sharon up. But Sharon answered them all with
ease.
Then she countered with a few sharp questions of her own, leaving Kelly momentarily speechless.
The challenge in Kelly’s eyes quietly faded. She gave up the idea of testing Sharon further.
Meanwhile, Carter’s gaze hadn’t left Sharon once.
He had never seen her like this before, completely immersed in her work. It was a different kind of focus than the light she gave
off on stage.
He had always known Sharon was beautiful. But maybe he’d looked at her for too long, because for a while, that beauty had stopped surprising him. He’d hardly admired it anymore.
To him, appearance meant little; talent was what truly captivated him.
And in this moment, she looked… more pleasing to the eye than ever. Maybe even more beautiful than he remembered.

Chapter 470
Maybe it’s true, there’s nothing more beautiful than a woman who’s completely absorbed in what she loves.
Carter’s gaze remained fixed on Sharon. His eyes were sharp and impossible to ignore. But Sharon never once looked back at
him.
As the conversation continued, Kelly started to feel thirsty. “Nate, could you grab us some water?”
Nate had been bored to tears during the entire discussion, stifling yawn after yawn. Now, hearing Kelly’s request, he seized the chance like a drowning man clutching driftwood.
“Sure. I’ll go get it. You two wait here.” He turned to Carter. “Carter, they’re talking shop. We’d only be in the way. Come with
me?”
Carter nodded slightly and followed him.
By the time Sharon and Kelly had wrapped up the discussion, more than ten minutes had passed. Sharon closed the music sheets. “If that’s all, I’ll head to rehearsal now.”
The sky had fully darkened.
A chill wind blew in from the lake, brushing strands of her hair into the air. The water, once serene and glassy in the daylight, now looked black and bottomless.
Then Kelly said gently, “Sharon, you saw it just now, didn’t you?”
She looked at Sharon with a smile that didn’t reach her eyes. “No matter what happens, Carter will always be on my side. He’ll never forgive anyone who hurts me.”
Sharon’s expression didn’t waver. “I’ve known how much Carter cares about you for a long time. There’s no need to flaunt it.”
Kelly continued, “Even in the event of the car accident, Carter chose to believe me. And when he found out the truth, he still
didn’t blame me. He never held me accountable.
“You’re no different from that pianist earlier. If I want to replace you, Carter will drop you without a second thought.
“Oh, and I’ve already moved into your new studio.” She smiled smugly. “You see? Anything I want… Carter will find a way to give it to me.” 1
She paused. Her smile widened just a touch. “Even… your guest performers.”
Sharon looked directly into her eyes and, all of a sudden, smiled.
“Kelly, you think far too highly of yourself. Carter cares about you, yes. But love you? I’m not so sure.
“After all, when I was pregnant, he could’ve asked me to get rid of the child. But he didn’t. He married me instead. And he certainly didn’t stay faithful to you.”
Kelly’s pupils contracted, her voice dropping to a thin, icy sneer, “You’re right. I may not be as important to Carter as his career.”
Her tone was so soft, it felt like a thread pulled too tight.
“But I only need to be more important than you.’
She suddenly grabbed Sharon’s wrist, a strange smile playing on her lips. Her eyes gleamed with provocation and arrogance.
“Do you believe me, Sharon?” she whispered. “No matter what I do… Carter won’t blame me. Even… if I made sure… you died.”
The moment the words left her mouth, she shoved Sharon hard.
1/2
Splash!
A violent splash tore through the quiet as Sharon fell into the freezing lake.
And then came Kelly’s voice-startled, breathless, feigning panic.
“Oh my god! Sharon! How did you fall into the lake?!”
Carter and Nate came running at the commotion. Carter’s face went pale the moment he processed the scene.
Chapter 471
Nate froze for a second when he saw what happened. Then he scoffed.
“Sharon is always causing drama. We were gone for what, five minutes? And she’s already making a scene again. She probably fell in on purpose. Just trying to get your attention. Next thing you know, she’ll pretend she can’t swim, so you’ll have to give her mouth-to-mouth. Seriously pathetic. She’s getting more manipulative by the day.”
Carter’s eyes narrowed.
He suddenly remembered-Sharon was terrified of water. She never learned how to swim.
His pupils shrank as he instinctively moved, ready to jump in and pull her out, but before he could, Sharon surfaced and began swimming steadily toward shore.
Even Carter stood stunned.
And on the bridge above, Kelly’s expression froze as well.
Didn’t Nate say Sharon couldn’t swim?
By the time Sharon reached land, Carter and Nate were already hurrying toward her.
Carter held out a hand to help her up, but she ignored him completely and pulled herself out, straight-faced.
Kelly had always preferred to play the victim, getting hurt just enough to blame it on someone else, stirring sympathy while framing Sharon. But pushing her into the lake like that-out in the open-that was something Sharon hadn’t expected.
Kelly was someone who cared deeply about appearances. Laying hands on someone was risky. Too easy to get caught.
Still, she approached Sharon with practiced concern. “Sharon, how did you fall into the water like that? You weren’t being careful?”
Sharon shifted her gaze, eyes landing on Kelly’s performative expression. “You think I wasn’t careful?”
Kelly blinked at her, feigning surprise. “Wait… are you saying you did it on purpose?”

Then, as if catching herself, she quickly covered her mouth with both hands, eyes flicking upward, hesitant and watchful.
She looked like she was afraid she’d said too much.
Her voice dropped, quiet and coaxing. “Sharon, I’ve told you so many times… there’s nothing between Carter and me. We’re just friends. You’re Theo’s mother. No one can take that away from you. There’s no need to hurt yourself over it…
“If it really bothers you that much, I’ll stop visiting Theo… please don’t do anything reckless again.”
Every word was dipped in false modesty, carefully crafted to make it seem like Sharon had jumped in just to win Carter’s
attention.
Nate, ever the loyal sidekick, didn’t waste the opportunity to pile on. “Wow, Sharon, how humiliating is that? What was your plan? Fall in the water and make Carter give you CPR?”
He barked out a laugh. “You’re seriously losing your touch.”
Carter stood silent, eyes fixed on Sharon’s drenched figure. “When did you learn how to swim?”
Sharon wiped the water from her face. Her tone was flat and cold. “Right after your mom’s birthday party.”
Last year, at Madeline’s birthday party, one of Nate’s drunken friends had pushed her into the pool as a cruel joke. She couldn’t swim-never had been able to. As she screamed for help, no one moved.

They stood by the edge, laughing, whispering that she was faking it. Not one of them jumped in.
Some even pulled out their phones and filmed her as she flailed.
Back then, Theo hadn’t turned against her yet. When he realized something was wrong, he rushed off to find Carter.
It was Carter who pulled her out in the end and rushed her to the hospital.
The scene had caused such an uproar that Madeline’s birthday party was all but ruined. And that was when Carter first realized Sharon was afraid of water.

Chapter 472
When Madeline learned of the incident, she showed no sympathy. Instead, she scolded Sharon for making a fuss over nothing.
Later, Carter tracked down the person who had “accidentally” pushed Sharon into the water. But since everyone invited to Madeline’s birthday banquet belonged to elite families closely tied to the Biggs family, holding them accountable was out of the question. The best they could do was offer a forced apology.
But compared to nearly drowning, a flimsy “sorry” meant nothing.
After Carter had them delete the video of Sharon, the whole affair was swept under the rug.
Sharon’s fear of water traced back to her childhood-she had once fallen into the sea while boating with her mother.
Later, life grew busy, and she lived far from the coast, with little exposure to oceans or lakes. Though years had passed and her phobia had faded somewhat, her instinct was still to avoid water. She’d never learned to swim.
But after that incident at Madeline’s birthday party, it took her more than half a year to overcome her fear. Eventually, she taught herself to swim. 1
Nate sneered. “You jumped in on purpose, didn’t you? Just for this moment?”
Sharon looked up calmly. “You think I jumped in on purpose?”
Nate arched a brow. “Are you saying you didn’t? Are you going to claim Kelly pushed you in?”
“Yes,” Sharon replied. “She did.”
Nate stiffened like a hound catching scent. He jabbed a finger toward her, his face lit with revelation.
“Oh, I get it now… You jumped in not just to get closer to Carter, but to frame Kelly too. Two birds with one stone, huh? Brilliant move, Sharon. Really devious.”
He looked proud, like he’d uncovered some grand conspiracy.
The cold wind bit through Sharon’s soaked clothes, and she shivered.
Carter shrugged off his suit jacket and draped it over her shoulders.
“Sharon,” he said, “Kelly would never do something like that. Maybe you misunderstood. It’s getting chilly. Let’s go inside and get you changed. We can talk about everything afterward.”
Nate, eager to fan the flames, scoffed from the side. “All this drama just to get Carter’s attention-what a manipulative little tease.”
Sharon flung Carter’s jacket off as if tossing garbage.
Then, without a word, she took a step forward.
Carter, thinking she had finally relented, relaxed slightly.
But instead of returning to him, Sharon marched straight toward Kelly and yanked her by the hair,
“Ah!” Kelly shrieked, caught completely off guard. Her delicate facade crumbled as her tace twisted in pain.
Sharon stared at her coldly. “Didn’t you just say no matter what you do, Carter would never blame you? Well, here’s my answer. What he does or doesn’t do has nothing to do with me. You wanted me dead? Fine. Now I’ll return the favor,”
With that, she kicked Kelly straight into the lake.

The sound of water exploding filled the air as Kelly plunged in, soaked and flailing.
Nate stared at Sharon in disbelief, fury simmering in his eyes.
“Sharon, are you insane? You actually shoved Kelly into the water?”
Sharon’s patience snapped. She raised her arm and slapped him hard across the face.
She’d wanted to hit him for a long time.
Nate’s head jerked to the side. Stunned, he stood frozen, wide-eyed, completely unable to process what had just happened. (2) He never imagined Sharon would dare strike him, especially right in front of Carter.

Chapter 473
Sharon looked at Carter, her gaze cold and glassy.
“Carter, I warned you to keep your precious Kelly away from me. If you can’t control the dog you raised, then don’t blame others for disciplining it for you.”
Her eyes locked on his. “Not everyone shows mercy just because the dog has an owner.”
The world went utterly still. Even the wind seemed to hold its breath.
For a moment, Carter stood frozen in place. Then Kelly’s panicked scream shattered the silence.
“Carter, save me…”
She flailed in the lake, arms outstretched toward Carter on the shore. “Carter, help me… Please! I can’t swim!”
Nate snapped out of his daze. Humiliation from Sharon’s earlier slap forgotten, he rushed to save Kelly.
But before he could get far, Sharon lifted her foot and kicked him squarely in the rear, sending him tumbling into the water with an awkward splash. (1)
Nate landed in the lake in the most undignified manner. He turned back, face flushed with shame and fury. “Sharon, you-!”
Before he could finish, Kelly’s cries rang out again. “Help! Help me!”
Grinding his teeth, Nate gave Sharon a venomous glare, then swam toward Kelly without another word.
Sharon glanced at the struggling figures in the water, her face emotionless, and turned to leave.
Carter quickly grabbed her wrist. “Sharon, do you realize what you’ve done? Kelly doesn’t know how to swim, and she’s not in good health. You could’ve killed her.”
Sharon replied flatly, “Exactly. Why else would I push her in? To play house with her?”
She paused, then added coolly, “I’m not the type to hold grudges. I settle them on the spot.”
Carter’s expression darkened. “You’re admitting this was intentional? That’s attempted murder, Sharon.”
Sharon gave a slow, mocking clap. “Oh, Carter… You’re unbelievable. She knew I had a phobia of water, and she still pushed me in. But that wasn’t attempted murder in your eyes?”
She chuckled. “All I did was return the favor-tit for tat. Your deep affection for her must’ve blinded you. It’s truly admirable. I’m sure the spectators will be moved to tears. Too bad it’s just a sordid affair between two shameless scumbags.”
Carter’s brows knitted. “Sharon, must you always speak so harshly? I’ve explained so many times, Kelly and I are not what you think-”
“Stop.” She cut him off, voice brimming with scorn. “We’re already divorced. Whatever your relationship with her is, it has nothing to do with me. Even if you two get legally married, to me, you’ll always be just a pair of disgraceful, disgusting cheaters.
“1
Carter’s face turned stormy. He swallowed his emotions and said coldly, “Apologize to Kelly, and we’ll pretend this never happened.”
Sharon smiled and enunciated clearly, “In. Your. Dreams.”
His gaze darkened further. “Sharon, both Nate and I saw you push Kelly. If she decides to press charges, you could be facing criminal liability. But if you’re willing to apologize, she’ll let it go for my sake.”
1/2
“Then what about her pushing me into the water? What’s your plan for that?”
“Kelly would never-”
She interrupted him again, eyes narrowing with a sardonic glint. “Are you saying I fell in on my own? That I staged it to get your attention?”

Chapter 474
Carter fell silent for a few seconds before finally speaking. “Maybe… you just slipped and fell by accident.”
Sharon hadn’t intended to argue with him at length, but in this moment, she suddenly grew curious-just how far was Carter willing to go to excuse Kelly?
She asked, “So you mean to say I can’t even tell whether I was pushed into the lake or fell in by accident?”
“Maybe when you slipped, Kelly tried to grab you, but in that split second, you misunderstood and thought she pushed you. It was a chaotic moment. Misjudging what happened wouldn’t be impossible.”
In that instant, Sharon could only marvel at Carter’s capacity for creative fiction. As long as it could whitewash Kelly’s actions, there was nothing he couldn’t make up.
While they spoke, Nate had already pulled Kelly from the water.
She hadn’t been under long, so she was still conscious, though her body trembled as she sobbed. “Carter… Sharon kicked me into the lake… right in front of you… Does she really want me dead?”
Nate, wiping water from his face, added furiously, “She’s a murderer! I’m reporting her to the police! Let her rot in prison!”
Sharon stood calmly in place, not the slightest hint of panic on her face.
Nate sneered, “Keep pretending you’re calm. Once you’re inside the police station, you won’t even have time to cry.”
Kelly turned to Carter, tears still streaming down her cheeks. “Carter, she’s humiliated me again and again. I let it slide in the past, for your sake, and for Theo’s. But this time, she clearly meant to kill me!”
Her voice cracked with emotion as her tears flowed faster.
“You saw what she did just now. This time, I won’t back down again!”
Carter’s eyes lingered on Kelly’s tear-streaked face. “Kelly, your concert is coming up. It’s not the time for any public controversy. If rumors start about discord between you and your composer, it could affect the whole event.”
Kelly stared at him, stunned. “Carter… You think I’m the one causing trouble?”
A shadow flickered across Carter’s eyes. “I’ll make her… apologize to you.”
Before Kelly could reply, Nate snapped.
“Apologize? Are you serious? She pushed Kelly into the water! That’s attempted murder. And you want to settle it with a measly apology? You saw what she did to me too. She slapped me right across the face!”
He could still feel the sting burning on his cheek.
Sharon finally spoke, “No need to worry. I won’t apologize to either of you. If you think this is unfair, go ahead and call the police.”
With that, she took out her phone.
“Oh, and by the way… I recorded my entire conversation with Kelly just now. So we’ll see who’s really guilty of attempted murder.”
Kelly’s expression froze instantly. Her already pale face turned even whiter.
“You… what did you say?”
Sharon swept her gaze over the group.

Chapter 475
After Kelly sent Carter and Nate away, Sharon had already guessed she was up to something shady again.
So, without a sound, she quietly opened the voice recording app on her phone.
Truthfully, she’d had a bad feeling earlier-ever since Kelly had called and asked her to come over, she suspected trouble. Kelly had suffered too many losses at her hands lately.
Even though Kelly managed to seize Sharon’s studio and force her into composing music, she’d paid a steep price of 10 million
dollars.
Despite all her smug gloating, Kelly hadn’t really gained the upper hand. If anything, Sharon had come out on top.
With Carter’s payout, she’d essentially become a minor tycoon overnight, with more than enough capital to start over.
In hindsight, if someone had offered that kind of money to buy their studio before all this happened, they might have agreed. After all, no one in their right mind turns their back on that much cash.
But the buyer this time was Kelly and Carter. There was no way Sharon would hand over what they wanted so easily.
After a few rounds of clashes, Sharon was sure Kelly wouldn’t back down. Kelly would strike again. So, Sharon came prepared.
Kelly’s schemes were never exactly brilliant, but she wasn’t stupid. She had a knack for staying out of the mess herself, preferring to manipulate others into doing her dirty work.
What Sharon didn’t expect was for Kelly to push her into the lake with her own hands.
Even if the surveillance cameras were disabled, there was always a chance a witness might’ve seen something from an unnoticed corner. If that happened, Kelly’s sweet and innocent persona would shatter beyond repair.
And yet, she still chose to take the risk.
That only meant one thing-after being repeatedly humiliated, Kelly had finally cracked. And the more desperate she became, the more likely she was to make mistakes.
However…
Sharon glanced at the water-drenched phone in her hand, a faint glint flashing in her eyes.
There was one thing she hadn’t anticipated-her phone had gotten wet. She’d tried to turn it on just now, but it wouldn’t boot up. 1
Though she’d indeed recorded their entire conversation, exposing Kelly on the spot was out of the question.
Still, Sharon didn’t panic. As long as she could get the phone repaired, the recording would be intact.
Her gaze shifted back to Kelly’s face. Kelly was already starting to lose her composure. A little bluff wouldn’t hurt.
Nate, unaware of the real situation, was still yelling at the top of his lungs. “If you’ve got the guts, then play it! What are you scared of?!”
Sharon ignored him and turned to Kelly instead. “Are you sure you want me to play it, Kelly?”
Panic flickered in Kelly’s eyes.
She had no doubt that Sharon would’ve recorded their exchange. This wasn’t the first time. In fact, now that she thought about it, Sharon seemed to always be secretly recording whenever they met.
How had she forgotten something so critical?
1/2
Recalling what she had just said moments ago, cold sweat broke out down Kelly’s back.
If Sharon played that recording, Carter would be thoroughly disappointed in her.
Even earlier, she’d already sensed a shift in his attitude. He no longer rushed to her side, no longer instinctively believed her without question.
He hadn’t scolded Sharon either. He just asked her to apologize and implied the matter would be over.
It was blatant favoritism.
Kelly clenched her fists unconsciously.
Then, lowering her head slightly, she softened her tone and donned a gentle, submissive demeanor.
“Nate, let it go. Carter’s right. With the concert coming up, we shouldn’t stir up more trouble. Since he’s already spoken, I’ll listen to him.”

Chapter 476
Carter’s gaze flickered slightly as he looked at Kelly. She avoided his eyes, maintaining a strained smile on her face. But the subtle flicker in her eyes betrayed her true emotions.
His expression darkened.
That look… was guilt. Could there be more to this than Kelly had let on?
Nate was about to speak again, but Carter cut him off.
“Enough. They’re both soaked through. Let’s not risk anyone catching a cold. We’ll talk later.”
Nate, naturally assuming Carter was showing concern for Kelly, sneered at Sharon. “You’re dead.”
With that, he scooped Kelly into his arms and walked away.
Watching them leave, Sharon turned to go as well.
But Carter stepped in front of her. “Change into dry clothes before you leave.”
“There’s no need,” she said coolly.
“You’ll catch a cold walking around like that.”
The familiar words made Sharon pause.
Before Kelly returned, her relationship with Carter had never been passionate, but it had at least been respectful. He wasn’t always cold. From time to time, he’d even show small gestures of concern.
She remembered clearly: one day, while picking up Theo from school, it had started to rain heavily. She shielded the boy as best as she could, getting completely drenched herself.
When they returned home, Carter had just gotten back from a business trip. Seeing her soaked, he’d said, “Go take a hot shower and change your clothes. Don’t catch a cold.”
At the time, that rare moment of care had touched her deeply. But now, there wasn’t even a ripple in her heart, only irony.
Sharon’s voice was flat. “It’s none of your business.”
She stepped around him to leave.
“Sharon,” Carter called out, trying to stop her again.
Sharon raised her head and said with a mocking smile, “Are you trying to get me to go back and play the recording, Mr. Biggs?”
His gaze faltered. His instinct to stop her froze mid-motion.
And in that brief hesitation, she was already gone.
Carter stood there, watching her walk away. He didn’t go after her.
***
Today’s rehearsal, she figured, was already a wash.
Sharon walked toward the exit, fiddling with her phone. It held damning evidence-proof that Kelly had tried to kill her.
The recording alone might not be enough for a courtroom conviction, but releasing it before the concert? That would strike a serious blow to Kelly’s reputation and credibility.
1/2
This trip… had been worth it.
Their concerts were scheduled for the same timeframe, both headlined with violin performances. Naturally, competition was
inevitable.
Sharon had never feared a fair fight. Healthy rivalry, to a musician, was often the catalyst for growth.
But Kelly wasn’t just a rival; she was someone who schemed, backstabbed, and tried to take everything that belonged to her.
And to that, Sharon wasn’t about to play nice.
If Kelly wanted to play dirty, she’d match her move for move.
Had Kelly been smart enough to steer clear of tricks, maybe Sharon would’ve let things be. But since she had been so kind as to hand her the leverage personally, Sharon wasn’t going to waste it.
Now the only question was when to release the recording.
Not yet. If she did it now, Carter and Nate would just suppress it.
She needed to wait, ideally, right when tickets for Kelly’s concert went on sale.
That way, the damage would be catastrophic.
Still… a faint thread of worry tugged at Sharon’s mind.
If Kelly and Nate didn’t intend to send her to prison, she had no reason to reveal the existence of the recording just yet. But now that Kelly knew the recording existed, she would definitely be on guard. 1
That said, Sharon doubted Kelly would dare tell Carter about it.
2/2
Chapter 477
After all, if Carter ever saw this side of Kelly, every last shimmer of her halo would shatter.
As for Nate… he was utterly useless. Kelly was lucky if he didn’t sabotage her outright.
Sharon had no real concern about Nate’s schemes. Besides, Julliard was keeping an eye on his every move.
Aside from Carter and Nate, Sharon couldn’t think of anyone else who’d bother to help Kelly.
And on her side, she had Xavier, John, and Ginny. With friends like these, she had no reason to fear Kelly’s little tricks.
Still, she couldn’t shake the feeling-like a thin layer of fog had settled across her heart. Something didn’t feel right, though she couldn’t quite put her finger on it.
A gust of wind swept past. Sharon sneezed.
The night air had grown cold.
She needed to get home, shower, and change. The last thing she could afford right now was to get sick.
Just as she reached the gate and was about to call a car, a black luxury sedan rolled to a stop in front of her.
The license plate was unmistakable. The door opened, and a tall, sharp-featured man stepped out.
“Sharon, what happened to you?” Xavier strode toward her, taking in her drenched clothes with a frown.
Surprised, Sharon blinked. “Xavier? What are you doing here?”
He noticed how pale her face looked. Without a word, he took off his coat and draped it around her shoulders.
“Matty said you had a rehearsal tonight. I happened to be nearby, so I thought I’d stop by.”
She had rehearsal this evening and was planning to send Matty back to the Cooper residence. But Matty had refused to leave, so she asked Wendy to stay with Matty at home instead.
Matty had asked where the rehearsal would be. He said he wanted to watch Sharon perform on the day of the concert.
Sharon hadn’t thought much of it and gave her the address.
Just as she was about to say more, another figure approached from the shadows.
“Sharon.”
It was Simon, Carter’s assistant.
Smiling politely, he said, “Mr. Biggs said you accidentally fell into the lake. He was worried you wouldn’t be able to get a car and might catch a cold, so he asked me to drive you home.”
His car had been idling nearby after dropping Carter off. A short while ago, Carter had called to ask him to give her a ride.
Sharon had never liked people from Carter’s side, but Simon was an exception. When she couldn’t reach Carter, Simon had always tried to help however he could.
He was one of the few who’d ever treated her with genuine respect.
“Thank you, Simon,” she said. “But that won’t be necessary. A friend of mine’s already here.”
Simon glanced at Xavier and, understanding instantly, didn’t press the matter.
“All right. If you need anything, Sharon, you can always call me.”

She nodded, then climbed into Xavier’s car.
Once inside, Xavier asked, “Sharon, what exactly happened? Why do you look like you just escaped a shipwreck?”
She gave a brief account of what had just happened.
Then, as if remembering something, she asked, “Do you happen to know anyone who can fix a water-damaged phone?”
Xavier chuckled. “It’s just water damage. Nothing too serious. Don’t worry, I’ll have someone fix it for you tomorrow.”
That night, Kelly had just finished her shower when her phone, sitting on the table, suddenly lit up and rang
Her eyes landed on the familiar number flashing on the screen.
And a flicker of fear passed through her gaze.
It was that person again.
The one who had falsified her medical records so thoroughly that even Carter hadn’t been able to detect it. That alone showed how powerful he really was.
He had taken care of things for her-things she could never go to Carter for help.
But unlike with Nate, she didn’t dare use him.
After taking a few deep breaths, she reached for the phone with trembling hands and tapped “Answer.”

“Kelly.”
The voice on the other end was clean and pleasant.
“You haven’t been doing too well lately, have you?”
Kelly’s breath hitched. “I… I’m managing.”
A soft chuckle followed. “You’ve taken quite a beating from Sharon recently, haven’t you?”
Just hearing Sharon’s name made her grind her teeth.
He waited for her silence, then said, “Kelly, want me to help you?”
Her reply was instinctive. “No… no need. I can still handle it.”
The voice lifted slightly, laced with something unreadable.
“Oh? You really think you can handle it?”
“I… I can.”
He spoke again, voice slow and low. “But from what I’ve heard, Sharon’s phone has a recording that could ruin you.
“Tell me, if Carter were to hear that, would he still treat you the same way? And if your fans heard it, would they still love you? Your concert’s coming up. If the public got wind of that recording, would anyone still buy tickets?”
Her breath quickened instantly.
When Sharon had pulled out her phone earlier, she’d briefly suspected there might be no recording, that maybe it was just a bluff.
But she hadn’t dared to bet on that.
And thank god she hadn’t.
If she had, she would’ve been exposed on the spot.
That recording… she had to get rid of it. No matter what it took.
She couldn’t go to Carter. Right now, the only one she could count on was Nate…
As if reading her mind, the voice chuckled softly. “Kelly, don’t tell me you’re still thinking of asking Nate for help. That guy’s dead weight. Are you sure he’s really helping you, and not Sharon?”
She said nothing.
Nate’s loyalty wasn’t in question. But his stupidity? That was a whole other problem. He was so stupid it gave her a headache.
But even so… she had no one else to rely on.
The voice shifted tones, lighter now. “Don’t worry. I’ve already had that recording deleted.
She won’t be able to use it against you. It went missing from Xavier’s hands, so we might even stir up a little tension between them in the process.”
She let out a breath of relief. “Thank you, Thomas.”
Compared to Nate, Thomas Ferrero’s methods were light years ahead.

There was a brief pause, and then Thomas said, with a strange softness, “It’s been a long time since I’ve heard you say my name.
11
Kelly clenched her fist unconsciously.
“Kelly, I really want to help you. Freely. Without expecting anything in return. So why would you rather run to someone like Nate for help, but not to me?”
She said, “You’ve already helped me so much. 1… I don’t have anything to give you in return. I don’t want to owe you too much.
That’s all.”
“Kelly.” His voice sounded friendly, but there was an undercurrent that made her uneasy. “I’d never force you to do something you don’t want to do. And as for owing me, compared to the fact that you once saved my life, this little favor means nothing. If you really feel like you owe me… just play a few violin pieces for me sometime, when you’re free. That’ll be enough.” 1
She held her breath. “Okay.”
“I’ll be in Amstern City at the end of the month,” Thomas said casually. “Figured I’d stop by, take a look at you. And take a look at that man you’re so obsessed with. And the woman who had the nerve to hurt you.”
She wanted to say no. She really did.
But the moment he mentioned Sharon, every word she’d been about to say vanished from her throat.
She knew better than anyone what Thomas was capable of.
If he ever decided to make a move on Sharon, Sharon wouldn’t just lose, she’d vanish without a trace.

Chapter 479
Earlier, all Kelly had wanted was to push Sharon out of the picture, nothing too extreme.
But now, because of Sharon, Carter had grown colder toward her by the day. She was running out of patience.
One way or another, Sharon had to go.
As Kelly’s mind drifted, lost in thought, Thomas’s voice pulled her back.
“I’ve cleared my schedule. I’ll be staying in Amstern City for a while to help you.
“Kelly, you should focus more on your violin… not on some man. Your playing now doesn’t even come close to the first time I heard you. Honestly, it’s disappointing. 1
“He’s just a man. If it’s beauty you’re after, I can find you someone even more flawless. Why cling to Carter?
“He’s married. He has a child. What is it about him that has you so spellbound?”
It wasn’t the first time he’d said something like that.
And yet, no matter how gentle his voice sounded, Kelly didn’t feel the slightest joy, only a rising, visceral fear.
Thomas was too good to her. Anything she asked for, he would make happen.
Even if she asked him to kill someone, he would probably agree without hesitation.
At first, she’d reveled in his devotion.
Even knowing he had mistaken her for someone else, she said nothing. 1
But slowly, she began to realize something was off about him.
It wasn’t just his unstable moods, though those were troubling enough. There was something deeper, something fundamentally
broken.
Why did he treat her this well?
All because he’d once heard “her” playing First Love in a garden, and decided she was his salvation, the light in his darkness. He was willing to help her unconditionally, without limit.
If it were love, she might understand. But the fact that he offered to find her another man, that alone proved there was no romantic feeling between them.
And if there was, it wasn’t the kind anyone should want.
After seeing what Thomas was capable of, her fear only deepened. He was dangerous. Too dangerous.
If he ever discovered the truth, the lie she had let him believe, she wouldn’t survive it.
And the worst part?
To this day, Kelly still didn’t know who had actually played First Love in the garden that day.
The piece was written by a member of Bell University’s Hall of Fame, someone who went by the name Jenna. It was her signature work.
But Jenna had never revealed her real identity. All anyone knew was that she was a woman. Beyond that, Kelly had nothing to go
The composition had been wildly popular. It even became a staple at competitions across the school.

Kelly loved First Love too. That was why she practiced it often in the garden.
Apparently, Thomas had overheard someone playing it and assumed it was her.
At first, Kelly believed he really had heard her. He’d told her how much he loved her playing and asked her to perform it again
for him.
She did. But after she finished, he looked disappointed.
He said her playing didn’t quite match what he remembered.
She hadn’t thought much of it at the time.
After all, a person’s performance could vary depending on mood, energy, and circumstance. She’d had days where even she was amazed by her own skill.
It wasn’t until Thomas pulled out an earring that she realized-he’d found the wrong person.
And still, she said nothing
Back then, Thomas had seemed so normal. So elegant. So powerful. So heartbreakingly beautiful.
And he catered to her every whim.
It was hard not to feel a little moved.
But once she saw the truth-that he wasn’t as sane as he seemed-what followed wasn’t affection. It was dread.

Chapter 480
Who in their right mind would risk everything for someone after hearing them play just one song?
The more time Kelly spent around Thomas, the more she realized something was seriously off. If there were a word for it now, people would call him yandere-obsessive, unhinged.
One moment, he’d be smiling gently. The next, cold and detached, disposing of someone like they were nothing. His mood could flip faster than a page in a book.
And the thing Thomas hated most in the world was being lied to.
If he ever found out she’d been lying, she’d be better off dead.
He had the face of an angel, sure. But when she looked at him, all she felt was fear. Nothing like love. Not even close.
No wonder he seemed so starved for affection. Who could possibly love a madman like that?
Once she saw what he truly was, Kelly couldn’t get out fast enough. She rushed back to Zachemaine.
Carter might’ve been married. Might’ve had a kid. But at least he was normal.
And if she wanted a future or any chance of surviving Thomas’s discovery of the truth, she had to marry Carter. No matter what.

At the Kalen family residence, Rick held an invitation in hand and knocked on the study door.
Inside, Richard was carefully wiping dust from the surface of an old photo album. His movements were slow and cautious.
Rick glanced at the photo. It was his mother, Shayla McKinzie.
“You need something?”
Richard didn’t even look up. His expression was soft and dreamy, clearly immersed in a memory long gone.
Rick pulled his gaze away. “Uriah Malcolm sent an invitation. He’s hosting a birthday banquet at the end of the month. Wants us there.”
Richard’s brow twitched slightly. “Uriah… It’s been years since I heard from him. He and my father were comrades in arms. If he extended the invite, we have to go.”
“It’s in Amstern City,” Rick added. “Jenna’s there too.”
Richard gently set the album aside. “Perfect. We’ll bring Jenna home.”
Then, as if something occurred to him, he looked up.
“Have you prepared the gift for my grandson?”
Rick hesitated. “Dad, are you sure about giving Theo five percent of the company’s shares?”
“Theo is my grandson,” Richard replied calmly. “He’s also the first child born into his generation of the Kalen family. Giving him shares is only right.”
Over the years, Richard had gradually handed over more responsibilities. Rick, along with Silas and Scott, were all more than capable. There was no longer a need for him to carry the burden.
Truthfully, he could’ve retired long ago. But being alone… stepping back completely felt too empty.
Learning that Sharon had a child had brought him joy. She looked so much like Shayla-surely the child would too.
