Liam thought for a moment, then said, “Well… you could find a sturdy rope and tie Thomas up first. If that doesn’t feel safe enough, get a pair of handcuffs. And ankle cuffs too. That way, he won’t be able to break free.” 

Sharon froze. 

She’d called Liam hoping to ask what medicine Thomas usually took. And this was his advice? Tie him up? 

“Liam,” she said, “you’re not joking, are you?” 

He wanted to tell her no–that this was deadly serious. But it was obvious she had no idea what Thomas was really like, or how terrifying he could become when the illness took hold. 

Liam sighed and changed his tone. 

“Look… his headaches, they’re not new. It’s an old condition. Every time it happens, his temper becomes unpredictable. He can become violent. He loses control. Sometimes it’s like he doesn’t recognize anyone at all. 

“In those moments, there’s no reasoning with him. There’s no medicine that works, no quick fix. He’s seen countless doctors, and none have found a cure.” 

Sharon asked, “Why? What caused it?” 

“It’s complicated,” Liam said. “Part of it’s insomnia. But there are deeper, psychological things too. 

Basically, it’s not something that can be treated easily. The doctors all said the same thing–if he’s ever going to get better, it has to start with his mind.” 

In other words, the root of Thomas’s illness was in his psyche. 

He’d never been what anyone would call a good man, but when the sickness came, that darkness in him deepened. It was something inherited–part of the Ferrero family’s legacy. A flaw in their bloodline no doctor 

could fix. 

Maybe it was the price of perfection. The Ferreros were brilliant–handsome, gifted, too clever for their own good. But most of them, in one way or another, weren’t entirely sane. 

To be fair, Thomas hadn’t had an episode in quite a while. Back then, it used to happen once every month or two. But ever since he’d been with Sharon, he’d been unusually stable. 

Liam didn’t know what had changed recently, but something clearly had. 

He went on, “Miss McKinzie, with his condition, emotional swings are the worst thing for him. Any kind of shock or agitation can trigger it again.” 

The more Sharon listened, the less right it all sounded. 

Liam’s description–this avoidance of stimulation, the volatility–it sounded less like a physical ailment, and more like… mental illness. 

“Liam,” she asked, “you and Thomas are close. Do you know someone named Chuggs Noel?

Chapter 1182 

Is there bad blood between them?” 

“Chuggs?” Liam’s voice was puzzled. “Never heard of him.” 

There was something he didn’t say aloud: If this Chuggs really had a feud with Thomas, he wouldn’t still be alive to talk about it. 

But just because Liam didn’t know the name didn’t mean the hatred wasn’t real. 

That could wait. It wasn’t the priority now. 

“Is there really no way,” Sharon asked quietly, “to ease his condition?” 

Liam paused for a few seconds before replying. 

“There is… sort of. Before, whenever he felt an episode coming, he’d go listen to violin music. It helped–barely. But once the illness took hold, even music couldn’t reach him.” 

Sharon understood immediately. 

Her expression dimmed. Her gaze dropped to her hands. She could no longer play the violin. 

Liam’s voice came through again. “But don’t worry too much. It doesn’t last long. Usually three days or so, and then he’ll go back to normal.”
