No one in the room had time to react. 

Even Sharon froze where she stood, too stunned to stop what had already happened. 

This was Yulcuador, not Marcentine. And even in Marcentine, you couldn’t just kill the heir to the Noel family and expect to walk away. 

The Nocls were no small house. 

A sharp mease rose in Sharon’s chest. 

When Thomas had first appeared, she hadn’t stopped him. In truth, she’d wanted Chuggs to suffer a little–to be taught a lesson. Men like him didn’t deserve mercy. 

But she hadn’t expected this. Thomas hadn’t just beaten Chuggs–he’d killed him. 

The commotion must have been louder than she realized. From the hallway came the faint echo of approaching footsteps. 

It was too late now. Whatever needed to be said no longer mattered. 

She stepped toward Thomas and said, “Thomas, we need to

He nodded once, wordless. 

Chuggs’s scandals had been an open secret in Yuicuador for years. Everyone knew what he was, but because of his family’s power, no one dared oppose him. Even those he ruined had to swallow the humiliation in silence. 

Most people assumed he’d go on like that forever, rotting in privilege. No one expected him to finally meet someone who wouldn’t bow and lose his life because of it. 

For all the women he’d destroyed, this felt almost like justice delayed. Retribution, simply arriving on time. 

News of his death spread through Yulcuador like wildfire. 

When people heard, most of them–quietly, or not so quietly–cheered. They said Chuggs’s death was a good thing, that the country was better off without him. 

Even the heads of powerful families thought so. No man wanted his wife or daughter to catch the eye of that predator, only to be forced to pretend nothing had happened. 

Once they were in the car, Sharon told Enzo to arrange a private jet immediately. 

They had to get out of Yucuador. 

Chuggs’s death wasn’t something that could be swept under the rug. If they didn’t leave soon, they might never leave at all. 

They needed to be gone before Toni woke up.

“I’m sorry,” Thomas said hoarsely. “I lost control.” 2 

Sharon turned to look at him. 

That wasn’t like him. Thomas was never impulsive. He measured every step he took, every word he said. 

This—what happened tonight–didn’t fit him. Unless… he had a reason. Something buried. 

Or maybe Chuggs had hurt someone close to him. 

Enzo, efficient as ever, had already pulled up Chuggs’s entire file and sent it over. 

Reading through it, Sharon felt only disgust. 

Perhaps, she thought, Chuggs had done something unforgivable to someone in Thomas’s past. 

She softened her voice. “It’s fine. Let’s just get out of Yulcuador first.” 

Before her words had even settled, her phone rang. 

Enzo’s voice came through, tight and urgent. 

“Miss McKinzie, things aren’t looking good. Yuicuador is under lockdown–full city alert. All airports are sealed. 

Her stomach dropped. 

The Noel family’s response was faster than she’d imagined. 

Getting out by plane was no longer an option. 

She made her decision quickly. “Tell the executives who came with us if anyone has a chance to get out, go now. If not, find a place to hide. Once help arrives, I’ll come for you myself.” 

Enzo didn’t waste words. “Got it.” 

When the call ended, Sharon turned to the driver. Outside, the night pressed close against the windows. 

“Don’t go to the airport,” she said. “Stop at the next intersection.” 

The driver slowed. She and Thomas got out of the car. 

Now, they were marked people. The farther they stayed from everyone else, the safer the others would be. 

This was going to be messy. 

The hatred of a father for his son’s killer was not something that could be reasoned with. 

The Noels would never let them go.
