Sharon didn’t care much for banquets, but she knew well enough that these were the kinds of places where connections were made and doors opened. 

Thomas stayed by her side the entire evening as her silent escort. His presence alone was enough to keep away the wandering hands and lecherous smiles that tended to surface when men drank too much and forgot their place. 

By the time most of the socializing was done, Sharon felt her energy slipping. She turned to him. “Let’s go to the lounge and rest for a bit.” 

Thomas nodded. “All right.” 

Not far away, a man standing by the champagne table wiped the corner of his mouth, his eyes following her with barely concealed hunger. 

“What a woman,” he thought. ‘Absolute perfection–every curve, every feature.” 

The man was Chuggs Noel, heir to the powerful Noel family. Though his father had many lovers, Chuggs was his only son. In the old traditions of Zachemaine, people would have called it a single line of inheritance–a family where, generation after generation, only one child was ever born, always a boy. 

Because of that, the Noels had established a peculiar rule: whoever bore a child for the family would become the official Mrs. Noel. Any other lover who also managed to conceive would be rewarded with wealth and privilege. But the so–called single–line curse had never been broken. 

Chuggs was infamous for his appetite. With his power and influence, there was hardly a woman he couldn’t take by force or persuasion. In Yulcuador, the Noel family’s reach was vast–no one dared to refuse him. 

Single women were one thing, but even married ones weren’t spared. Heiresses, socialites, the wives of powerful men–it made no difference to him. If Chuggs set his sights on someone, he’d find a way to have her. 

Although he was the designated Noel heir, he wasn’t yet the head of the family. That was why he hadn’t attended the contract signing earlier that day–the Noel patriarch had handled that himself. 

But when Chuggs arrived at the banquet that night, his eyes immediately fell on Sharon, standing beside Thomas. 

What a beauty. Her features were sharp yet luminous, her eyes clear as autumn water. Even from across the room, he could tell–she was all natural, untouched by any surgeon’s hand. 

He couldn’t stop staring at her back, already imagining the rest.

Since the venue belonged to the Noel family, getting a key card was effortless. 

In the lounge, Sharon leaned back on the sofa, rubbing her temples. The wine she’d had earlier was catching up to her, making her head spin. 

Thomas noticed her discomfort. “You should rest,” he said. “I’ll go ask someone to make you some hangover 

soup. 

Then, as if remembering something, he added, “I’ll take the key card with me. Don’t open the door for anyone until I’m back.” 

“All right,” Sharon murmured. 

When he left, she let her body sink deeper into the cushions and closed her eyes. 

Some time later, a faint beep broke through her light sleep. 

She stirred, hearing the sound of the door opening, her mind still foggy. 

“That was fast,‘ she thought vaguely. 

“Back already?” she said softly, her voice still heavy with drowsiness. 

Then she blinked… and froze. 

The man standing at the door was not Thomas, 

“Who are you?”
