Meanwhile, at the Kalen estate, because of Sharon’s disappearance, the Kalens had gathered for a meeting. 

Silas spoke first, voice sharp with anger. “Sharon went missing right under our noses for two whole days, and we only just found out!” 

As he said this, he shot a cold glance upstairs and let out a derisive snort. “If that ungrateful brat hadn’t helped keep it quiet, we’d have known long ago. Like mother, like son–both of them heartless.” 1 

At that, Richard and Rick’s expressions darkened at once. 

“Silas.” 

Even Victoria spoke up, her tone calm but firm. “Silas, Theo’s just a kid. You shouldn’t talk about him like that.” 

Richard had already told everyone before–grown–ups‘ grudges had no place on a child’s shoulders. 

When he was younger, Richard had been ruthless, decisive to the point of cruelty. But age had worn that edge down. There were lines he would no longer cross. And one thing was certain–he would never allow anyone to lay a hand on Theo. 

Seeing that no one stood on his side, Silas’s breath hitched. He looked away, the color in his face turning Wawkward. 

Scott broke the silence. “The team we sent out just called back. They found signs that Sharon and her bodyguard were ambushed. From the traces left at the scene, it looks like the attackers weren’t from Marcentine.” 

Rick frowned. “Not from Marcentine? Then could Sharon have enemies abroad as well?” 

Silas gave a sharp, mocking laugh. “See? Sharon’s a walking disaster. Trouble follows her everywhere. She’s even managed to offend people from other countries now. No wonder she agreed to rejoin our family–turns out she just wanted our protection.” 3 

No one bothered to respond. 

Victoria turned toward Scott. “Scott, can we find out which country they’re from, or who they were after exactly? 

In Marcentine, the Kalen family’s intelligence network was formidable. 

Scott replied, “We traced them to Leistre, but that’s as far as the trail goes. We couldn’t identify who they are.” 

At that, Victoria’s eyes flickered with thought. 

‘Leistre…! 

Just then, her phone began to ring. She excused herself from the room and stepped outside to take the call. 

“Victoria,” came Jamie’s voice on the other end. “I heard Sharon’s gone missing?” 

Victoria didn’t ask how he knew. “That’s right, Jamie. Those people who ambushed her–were they yours?

“No,” Jamie said. Then, after a pause, came a faint, amused laugh. “But the ones hunting them down? I was the one who tipped them off. They’re Thomas’s enemies.” 1 

With Sharon out of commission, Jamie couldn’t touch her directly. But he wasn’t about to swallow the loss quietly. The Walton Group had taken a hundred–billion–dollar hit because of her. His position had already begun 

to waver. 

He couldn’t strike at Sharon, but Thomas? That was another story. 

Thomas had enemies–plenty of them. Jamle only needed to whisper a few words in the right ears over in Leistre, and Thomas would never know peace again. 1 

Those people he’d set loose were ruthless–real killers. They wouldn’t stop to ask who was innocent. They’d take Sharon down with Thomas without a second thought. 

If Sharon happened to die in the crossfire, well–Jamie could hardly be blamed for that. 

It was a perfect plan–killing two birds with one stone. Let others do his dirty work. 

Victoria, of course, saw through it instantly. Her brow furrowed. 

“Jamie, Sharon made a will. Even if something happens to her, the Kalen family won’t gain anything. And besides, she’s our blood. Dad made it clear–no matter how fierce things get within the family, no one crosses the line. No one dies. That’s the bottom line.”
