It wasn’t the first time Sharon had faced danger. Her voice stayed steady. “Alright.” 

Thomas handed her a pistol. “If necessary, use it to protect yourself.” 

She nodded and took it without hesitation. Since arriving in Marcentine, she had learned how to shoot. This place was far from safe, and she had no shortage of enemies. If her physical strength wasn’t enough, she had to make up for it elsewhere. 

Under Thomas’s precise instruction, her marksmanship was barely passable, but it would have to do. 

Thomas managed to sideswipe and overturn a few of the pursuing vehicles before steering sharply into the forest. 

They made it only a few dozen meters before the car slammed into a thick tree trunk with a violent jolt. 

They had both been prepared. The moment the car stopped, they leapt out, vanishing into the darkness of the 

woods. 

But their pursuers were not amateurs. Each one was highly trained, fast, and skilled at tracking. And with their superior numbers, the search spread through the forest at alarming speed. 

Thomas whispered, “Sharon, I’ll draw them away. You find somewhere to hide. Once I take care of them, I’ll come back for you.” 

Sharon knew he was right. Staying by his side would only slow him down and get them both killed.

Sharon knew how skilled Thomas was, yet watching from afar still made her heart clench painfully.
