Walton Group… that meant Jamie.Â
Sharon’s gaze sharpened. “Why would the Walton Group suddenly attack the Macaron Group?”Â
She didn’t believe Jamie would go after Julliard simply because he had helped her. For all his cruelty and cunning, Jamie was never reckless. He might despise her, but he wouldn’t target Julliard without reason.Â
If anything, Carter and Xavier had done far more to assist her. Jamie would never bypass them to strike at Julliard -unless… something had happened to Carter as well.Â
The thought sent a chill through her. She immediately picked up the internal line.Â
“Enzo, compile all the recent business news and bring it to me. Now.”Â
Ten minutes later, Enzo returned with a neatly organized dossier.Â
He truly lived up to his reputation as a professional assistant–every report concise, relevant, and to the point.Â
Though Sharon still suspected he’d been planted by the Kalen family, she had to admit he was remarkablyÂ
competent.Â
Scanning the pages, Sharon quickly found the source of the turmoil: reports of strategic missteps within Macaron Group.Â
Jamie’s assault had begun precisely because of those errors.Â
–Â
As for the Biggs Group and the Cooper Group, there was nothing unusual in the news no signs of trouble. TheÂ
stock market looked stable across the board.Â
Only the Macaron Group was in chaos.Â
Just then, Flint spoke up again, “Miss McKinzie, could you please talk to Mr. Macaron? He’s been sleeping barely three or four hours a night this past month. He hardly eats. At this rate, his health won’t hold up. And if it weren’t for you, he wouldn’t have ended up in this situation-” 2Â
Realizing what he’d just said, Flint’s voice cut off abruptly.Â
Sharon’s head snapped up. “What did you just say?”Â
Flint’s eyes widened in panic. He knew he’d spoken out of turn. His breath quickened.Â
“Flint,” Sharon pressed, her tone sharp, “tell me–what’s going on?”Â
He hesitated, then finally sighed and said, “Business setbacks aren’t unusual, Miss McKinzie. But this time… it’s different. Somehow, the Walton Group obtained the Macaron Group’s confidential data. About a month ago, they partnered with one of Silas’s subsidiaries to set a commercial trap specifically targeting us. Under normal circumstances, the Macaron Group could’ve weathered it. But…”Â
He glanced at her, voice dropping. “Our cash flow’s been severely strained. We can’t patch the financial gap, and the other side knows it. They’re pushing us to the brink.”Â
1/2Â
A cash flow problem?Â
That didn’t make sense. She hadn’t touched Julliard’s funds, and she’d even reimbursed him for the assets he’d sold. Even if he hadn’t accepted it, the loss shouldn’t have been catastrophic.Â
Flint continued, “To help you raise funds, Mr. Macaron sold off portions of Macaron Group’s stock. That caused the price to fall. He poured everything he had into you, Miss McKinzie. That’s why the company’s struggling now -he’s simply run out of resources.”Â
Sharon’s brows drew together.Â
Then suddenly, her hand tightened around the document she was holding.Â
Wait…Â
The mysterious investor who’d wired her fifty billion…Â
